                    FREYA'S POV
I took hours washing out the taste from my mouth, traumatized by the experience - the smell, the chunky texture, the painfully tight grip that held me in place. I couldn't break free no matter how I struggled and the memories were haunting and filled me with hatred.
My weakness becomes painfully obvious to me every day and I can't help but hate it so much. If I had been truly born as something better than an Omega, I would have been strong enough to push her down... and hurt her.
I'm standing in the girl's toilet in front of the large mirrors. I look up at myself - eyes red, my shoulders shivering not from the cold, totally embarrassed. I make a promise not to take any more shit from her.
Evening came quickly for which I am grateful. Xena was since back from home, placing some of her new things in place as I walk in with my luggage. I attempt to roll my huge bag across the room with much struggle but she quickly moves to me, taking the bag with so much ease like it weighs nothing, dropping it by an empty bed.
"You really need to work out more."
If only she knows it wasn't just my workout regimen that needed changing. I'm grateful she doesn't question it, however.
I sigh deeply, sitting on my new bed and she follows, plopping next to me.
"Thanks for letting me move into your room, Xena. Wasn't sure what crazy thing she'd do next in my sleep."
I had already filled her in on the incident that occurred earlier today. She had raged about it, punching the wall and leaving a fist-shaped crack on it but now, she's calm and pats me gently on the back.
"It's fine, my third roommate has been gone since last year after an encounter with Elena."
Her name sparks rage within me. I wonder if she's also planning on getting rid of me as well. I'm not going down so easy.
"You okay?" Xena asks with concern.
"I will be. Don't think I'm having anything dairy for a while though." I almost puke at the thought of drinking milk or yogurt ever again.
"This is exactly why I stressed on staying clear from that duo. They ruin countless lives just for the fun of it. I don't want you to be their next victim."
"Well, I have been. Doesn't seem to change anything. She's adamant about destroying me it seems."
"Well, screw Elena and her toxic relationship. I know mates can go crazy for their significant other but this is just too much. No way I'm letting her mess with you again." She huffs, folding her arms below her chest. Her pout is simply adorable and her protectiveness is cute.
My mood feels so much better talking to her but my mind ponders on that word a bit.
"But do you really think they're mates? I thought mates were kind of inseparable in the sense that they're so obsessed with the other and never look anywhere else? In Silas' case, he doesn't seem very faithful to Elena."
Xena ponders on my words for a moment.
"That's true. According to what I heard, there's a possibility that they aren't actually mates."
"Why betroth two people that aren't mated?"
"I'm not quite sure. But who knows? Maybe there's a perfectly plausible reason, but I don't care."
She goes back to arranging her things from home, leaving me to unpack mine. My mind lingers on the topic of mates. Something inside me just knows they aren't. There's just not that connection between them.
It would explain her psychotic paranoia; why she sends every female he fancies away, because she's scared one of them just might be his actual mate... but then, where is his and where is hers?
Where is mine?
I'm only 17, but turning 18 in a few months, so there's no way I could find him before then or he could find me. Both mated wolves needed to be 18 before they could perfectly sense the mate bond.
I muse at the thought of meeting him and getting to know him. What would he be like? Would I instantly fall in love with him like the books described? Would he be cute... like Silas?
Darn it, I'm thinking of him again. My wolf purrs shamelessly and I huff at her. I'm irked at how easily she swoons for him when our mate is still somewhere out there, waiting for us to meet.
Early the next morning, just before the sun was fully out in all its brightly burning glory, we are all out for physical training. We are wolves and need to learn how to defend our pack after all.
It's my first physical training class since I had arrived newly. In the previous classes, I had skipped with various excuses. Now the teachers aren't taking any from me. I had maxed out my excuses.
I stand awkwardly in my gym wear, a dwarf among giants. Xena stands next to me, giving me a sense of confidence, but still, I can't help but panic. Today's exercise in particular is the problem. We are sparring in pairs!
Silas is the first to demonstrate, being the Alpha prince. He's paired with another Alpha male almost as tall as he is, with buffer muscles. The gong rings and the fight begins. He lunges after Silas quickly, but Silas dodges him, then hooks his right leg in between his opponent's and uses his hand to flip him over, causing him to crash to the ground. There's a mini earthquake from the impact.
The guy tries to hit him but Silas is fast, stepping back. He jumps to his feet, throwing a punch. But Silas is again faster, catching his fist then head-butting him twice and letting go, watching him fall backward unconscious.
The watching students go wild at his speed, precision and power. I'm shocked, wide-eyed, and a little impressed by his movements. He isn't just an Alpha in name. I realize suddenly, I know little about what he can do and who he is.
On the other hand, I realize just how hard I would be fighting for my life against one of these superior wolves.
Next, Xena is paired with a guy and I'm confused at first. I assume the rules involve boys against boys and girls against girls, but Xena is paired with a guy almost as buff as Silas' opponent. I almost yell foul when the fight begins.
She wastes no time tackling him to the ground. Her slender body is wrapped around his. He takes hold of her trying to toss her forward but she somersaults, landing on her feet. Enraged, he runs to her and she takes him down swiftly with her arm. In seconds, he's giving up.
My jaw almost drops. So that's why.
Being Zeta, a warrior wolf, she's already well versed in the art of fighting, and because she's stronger than most girls, they pair her with tougher boys. It makes sense now.
She walks to me, her breath quick-paced from the rush of fighting but she smiles at me. I think I now know her best class.
"Dude, you were awesome!"
She blushes, shrugging her shoulder like she's just done some random everyday activity.
"Remind me to never get on your bad side."
She chuckles out at this.
I realize I have a trainer right in front of me that could maybe teach me how she utilizes her opponent's strength like hers. She's smaller than him but she tosses him around like he weighs nothing.
"You have to teach me."
"Sure."
I'm elated now, my anxiety half gone when she shows up.
"Hey, darling." Elena smiles at me. Flashes of her laughter whilst pouring expired milk down my throat fills me again. And I'm suddenly boiling with loathing.
"Ready to get that pretty face of yours rearranged?"
I seethe, ready to talk back to her but Xena steps in with boss girl vibes. "The real one getting a full face makeover is going to be you if you don't back the hell up." She growls, threatening Elena. "Oh, looks like you have a new pet, Freya." She teases, laughing obnoxiously while walking away.
Xena makes a move to pounce on her but I pull her back.
"Just let her go, she isn't worth it."
She's initially reluctant but luckily, my words are enough to calm her. She nods and remains by my side.
More pairs come forwards and spar. Soon, it's my turn.
"Freya Willows and Elena Crescent, please step forward."
The crowd begins to mumble and chatter, growing rowdier.
No freaking way.
I look to Xena who seems as shocked as I am. Then my eyes find
Elena in a distance, smirking like the true devil she is and I immediately know.
That bitch planned this.
