SILAS' POV:
How can I not love her?
Everything about her draws me to her, the fire in her eyes, the sweet sounds of her laughter that moves me like nothing else can.
Even when she cries, though it breaks my heart, I can't resist the urge to kiss her till nothing else matters in the world and all her troubles are simply gone.
I want her all to myself like an unnatural need and quite frankly, it's always been there, even before the mating bond had been activated - I had always wanted to claim her as mine.
She had always belonged to me.
My wolf agrees that she's a perfect choice that suits us perfectly.
Yeah, Freya deserves nothing other than being my precious Luna, and I will do anything to make her just that, even if it means going up against father.
After minutes of crying, she had finally tired herself out and fallen into a deep slumber, so now her head rested on my chest, clutching onto my frame while she breathed softly in her sleep.
While she doses off, I stare at her long fluffy lashes and the beautiful contours of her face
My mate.
I never want to leave this position but I know I have to in order to take care of everything and everyone that can hinder us from being together, starting with the culprit that leaked her secret.
They need to be discovered before the news got to higher bodies of authority and finally, my father.
He won't hesitate getting rid of her if he hears this news.
It would be his opportunity to get her out of his way once and for all, and I won't let that happen no matter what.
Freya groans in her sleep unconsciously, turning the other way and her hair covers half her face in the process.
I reach out, parting it away from her face, dropping a kiss right in the middle of her eyes, then a small smile forms on her lips in her sleep.
Cute.
"Silas?"
Lucas steps in, knocking on the door but pauses once he sees Freya sleeping with her lower half entangled with mine.
"Uhm... maybe I should come back another time." He whispers.
"No... she's deep in sleep, so we can talk... while whispering, of course." I say.
He nods, moving over to a couch a few feet away from me by the bedside, sitting down.
"Xena's filled me in on a little bit of what transpired between the both of you." He begins.
I immediately know he knows about Freya's plans to run away after our argument and just how much she's been through just for being an omega.
Also about how she got her bruises...
I want to be mad and pissed off, but I know it's not Xena's fault as well. There was no way of her knowing it was Freya.
"While I'm glad most of this is settled, we still have the issue of the rumors going about to settle, so this good moment is short lived."
I nod in agreement with his words.
We still needed to stop the circulation of rumors without getting Freya involved while also keeping her hidden, while we figured out how to navigate everything.
"And as you've already figured it out... there's no law that allows you to be with an omega wolf... even if you're mates."
Then there's also that truth I've been purposefully avoiding for a while as well.
"There's never even been a case of an Alpha mated to an omega in the first place. You need to be with your mate to ensure stronger offsprings, of course, but it's possible her being your mate won't change the public's eye."
"Well, that's a minor setback. I intend on keeping my woman, irrespective of what anyone else thinks of her."
"You should also put into consideration how much she's going to pass through because of this as well. Remember just how much she's been through already, Silas." Lucas points out seriously. "So, what are you saying? I should just give up and let her leave a mundane life, because life with me won't be rosy?"
I can't do that.
I can't live without her, I realize that now.
"No, I'm simply saying that you need to prepare yourself for the sacrifices that will be made to keep this, the amount of people you're going to go against and you need to think about how you're going to shield her from the backlash while you're doing all that."
I sigh.
"You're right. So much is at stake and I'm going to have to take most of, if not half, of the burden; I need to be strong enough that even when I'm not next to her, she's safe."
"Well, you have us as well, your friends that are also willing to help. Xena and I and of course, Adam... wherever the idiot has run off to."
I feel a strong sense of stability knowing I have people I can count onto, as well as Xena and Adam.
Though their loyalties may not specifically lie with me, but as long as they would risk everything to protect Freya, it makes me feel all the more okay with being away from her.
Knowing that this might be the last time I get to simply just be with her like this peacefully. "Never let her leave your lane of sight, and keep her happy while I'm away." I say to Lucas while my eyes remain fixed on her sleeping form.
I know he can already understand what I mean without the need of further explanations.
He nods his head firmly.
"Yes, Alpha."
"I'll need to pay one more person a visit before I leave for a while to sort issues about the betrothal with my father before things get out of hand, while you handle all rumors from this end."
While I'm away sorting every issue I possibly can that could keep us apart diplomatically, she would be in my mind every waking and passing moment without even needing to think about it.
"I'll leave you two to say your goodbyes." Lucas says, rising to his feet
I wait patiently for him to exit the room before I look back at Freya.
Her breathing had long since been anything but slow paced and calm, not since a few minutes ago.
"I know you're not sleeping anymore." I mutter just as she tenses up.
I admit, I had underestimated her hearing, thinking her deep state of sleep would keep her in the realm of unconsciousness long enough for us to finish having the conversation.
This is not how I wanted her to find out I was leaving, not for a while though, more like taking some time away to solve the issue of my betrothal now that I have a signed contract from Elena, and making sure rumors of there being an omega wolf shifting into an Alpha doesn't reach the higher ups.
It is an impromptu decision I had made hours after her secret had leaked. It's the only way I can think of to protect her.
"Are you really leaving?" She mumbles, looking away from me. "Hmm, if you say it like that, it sounds like I'm traveling to a faraway land where we won't see for years."
"Isn't that the same thing?"
"It's more of me being away to fix a lot of things before I can see you again. You can be seen in public as an omega, especially by people who know you."
"I know." She mumbles against my chest, dejectedly.
I feel bad that it has to be this way...
If there was an alternate method that would let me see her every day, I would take it in a heartbeat... but there isn't.
I think back to all the times when we had such opportunity to be right next to each other but they were wasted because of the feelings we denied ourselves purposely.
If I could go back in time and hold her tighter a few more times.
"Silas?" She whispers my name.
"Yeah?" "Mark me."
I sit up abruptly to look her in the face to be sure I had heard her right
"What?"
She looks at me sternly in the eye, unlike seconds ago.
"I've already thought it through and if we're going to be far from each other the way you say we will be... I want you to mark me. If the mate bonding is completed even half way, I'd be able to feel your emotions and strongly, so I know that you're okay."
She explains the thought process behind her words. Don't get me wrong, I desperately want to sink my teeth into her neck and claim her as mine but I'm reluctant...
I feel as though the conditions surrounding the need to be marked aren't favorable.
She reads right through me and places her hand on mine.
"I know you think that this is something that should be done in a more intimate moment, but it's what I want... As a parting gift, I want you to make me yours."
Overwhelmed with emotions, both hers and mine, I engulf her in a hug, taking a deep inhale of her wicked maddening scent that just always makes me lose every sense of reasoning I have.
I want her so desperately; my entire being yearns for her constantly like nothing else.
"I promise, once I sort everything out, I'll be back for you and make sure you never regret giving us a chance." I say just as I pull out my fangs and sink them deep into the corner between her neck and her shoulders.
Warm heat forms in the pit of my gut, feeling the mental channel linking us both together open up more... the fuzz completely evaporates as the bond deepens between us.
She groans from both pain and pleasure while I drag my teeth along her flesh before pulling away and suckling the blood and bruised skin with my tongue.
The mark left behind is a red swollen moon shaped incision that will heal perfectly in no time.
And just like that....
She's mine.
