SILAS' POV:
It doesn't take very long after the whole fiasco in school for her to pop up into my mind as my very first suspect.
Maybe I had suspected something from the moment I found her hair tie in the library right after Lucas and I had talked about it, but I didn't want to believe it was possible.
Maybe it's because of how lenient I've been towards her, mostly because I have known her for most of my life just like Adam and Lucas.
My familiarity with her must be the reason I continuously hold myself back in admonishing her, but everything changes today.
I will nip the bud from it's roots one way or another.
I was stupid to think that her signing the documents was a form of surrender from her, especially since no one has heard anything about Elena Crescent since our last encounter.
I thought it would be the last time we would ever need to cross paths in the most unfortunate manner but I was so wrong and now, I'm regretting it.
Once I leave Xena's hideouts after saying my farewells to Freya, I waste no time heading back to school, leaving Lucas and Xena with her for the meantime.
I march right towards her dorm room and up the stairs, holding back my fuming rage so I don't pounce on her the second our eyes meet.
I would have tolerated whatever vendetta she had with me for years of playing with her and still not choosing her even now.
But Freya is innocent and has nothing to do with whatever happened to her.
It's all my fault not hers - she didn't deserve any of this.
"Elena!" I yell, banging at her door once I stand right in front of it.
I know she's in there because no one has spotted her leaving her room since a few days ago, and she doesn't attend classes anymore.
"I know you're in there, open this goddamn door." I yell again.
I twist the knob, pushing through it but it doesn't budge.
Funny, I don't remember dorm doors ever being this sturdy.
I push and tug long enough to begin considering that she just might not be in, until the locks click and the door pulls open very slowly, revealing her deeply lit room.
I think nothing of it, stepping in immediately but the sight of everything makes me falter momentarily.
The curtains are drawn, stopping every in flow of light, leaving its only source to be a single bed side lamp.
Every other thing in the room seems trashed.
Broken glass shards on the table, a flipped over table on one side. This looks nothing like the typical Elena's heavily organised room.
Then there's this unearthly chill crawling up my spine from just standing here. My instinct clear as day, telling me something is way off from normal.
"Silas!" She screeches my names from behind me, suddenly engulfing me in a hug from my back. "Silas, baby, I missed you. I didn't exactly expect to see you today of all days."
She hums in this overly sweet tone, opposite to the vibe everything else in this room gives off.
I pry her hands from my body without gentleness and turn to her, glaring.
"Don't call me that, and don't talk like the reason we haven't seen since the past few days isn't because I cruelly ended things with you." I say sternly.
She giggles however, choosing to ignore every message my entire body language is screaming at her ... like a persistent rat.
"Nonsense... you're referring to that minor misunderstanding, right? It's alright, I already forgave you."
She steps too close, smiling ear to ear which freaks me the fuck out initially. She takes being unable to take no for an answer to a whole new level.
"I see you've grown more delusional since the last time we spoke. Here I was thinking that your signature meant you were completely done with this nonsense."
I speak harshly without mincing words with her.
"Oh silly, you wanted my signature and I gave it to you because I love you, that's all that was. I understand that you were too deep into whatever mental hold she had over you then, but I promise from now on, I'll help you break free from it."
I grow even more impatient with her impertinent behaviour.
"Freya is my mate, she has no mental hold over me."
A slight crack in her smile forms just as the left corner of her lips begins to twitch continuously. It's obvious just how much her mental state has deteriorated the past few days, and I'm willing to take responsibility for it.
But again, I will not forgive any jabs directed towards my mate.
"You started the rumors, didn't you.?" I ask now, focusing on the real reason I'm here.
I want to hear why she did...
Maybe there will still be a chance for her to turn a new leaf and not become an enemy.
"What rumors?" She tilts her head, pretending to be ignorant.
I have to take a deep breath in and out slowly before facing her again.
"Elena, I'm not in the mood for your games. Why did you do it? I saw your hair tie in the library... I know you heard everything and started the rumors."
"Oh, you mean about that girl being an Omega? You know, Silas, I'm surprised and honestly disappointed. More and more, you show just how low you chose to fall over an insignificant thing like her. Now, she's revealed to be a deceitful Omega that should be burnt alive if possible, and you're here to attack me?" Her plain disrespect of my mate sets me off the edge and I'm done being lenient with her.
I grab onto her shoulder tightly, leaning closer to her and baring my fangs as my aura pours out of me. "Your disrespect to my mate is a disrespect to me,
Elena. Watch your goddamn tongue before I cut it out myself."
I expect to see her usual cower and fright in her eyes.
I expect to see her shiver under the pressure of my aura, at least flinch at it, but she's unwavering, her creepy bright smile never fading.
Instead, there's just a very brief flash of purple light in her eyes.
"You're wrong, Silas, I'm your mate. I was the one made for you. Bound to you from birth, stuck by your side all this while. I told everyone her lies to liberate you from her grasp, so you can be free."
She shrugs off her grasp on her shoulders too easily, simply because I'm too shocked by the lack of effect on her, the crazy glimmer in her eyes that looks nothing like her.
While stuck in this daze, she takes the chance to move in closer to me, holding my face in both her palms.
"I only did it for us, baby." She whispers, drawing her lips close to mine but never too close. "You're sick." I say coldly, staring her dead in her eyes that don't seem as brilliant blue as they once were.
Her smile cracks again, the corners of her lips twitching as well before it switches into a frown, showing just how pale her skin has become over the last few days.
She pulls away from me suddenly, putting enough distance between us like she's been burned.
It's as though her moods are swinging from one extreme end to the other while she converses with herself mentally.
"This is why I did what I needed to do... to help you think about things properly."
"Starting a rumor won't change anything aside from showing just how low you'd stoop to get what you want." I explain.
All she did was make herself my enemy, as well as a target. Her frown switches into a smile again and then, a sinister chuckle.
"You're funny, Silas. You think if I want to get you back to thinking clearly and make her pay, I'd simply start a rumor around school?"
I watch her for a moment and more, because it takes that long for whatever she's implying to really sink into my head.
My entire body tenses up instantly.
"What the fuck did you do, Elena!" She cackles out loud now, like a deranged woman, clutching onto her belly while more of that disgusting dangerous aura oozes out of her. "Nothing too drastic, I promise. You should pay a final visit to your boo though, you know, before your dad gets to her first."
It's just as the words leave her lips that I sense the distress signal coming from Freya's end through our mate bond connection.
