FREYA'S POV
"You okay?"
Her voice breaks into my raging thoughts and I'm startled, jumping right in my seat.
I look up, noticing Xena for the first time with a worried look i her eyes. I look round at the empty seats around and turn behind me. He's also not in class too - Silas.
"Where's everyone?"
"Freya, class ended 5 minutes ago. Everyone's at the cafeteria."
"Oh." I realize half of my day has passed in a haze.
"What's up with you? You've been like this since this morning."
I say nothing. After I had woken up from that dream, I feel literally chills down my spine. Unable to sleep, I'd stared at the ceiling till the sun was out and just haven't felt up for anything since then. My hairs stand up at the back of my neck like I can sense something isn't right.
"I'm fine, just a little tired. Couldn't sleep last night."
I rub my tired eyes and yawn, rising from my desk. Xena watches me like she doesn't want believe my bullshit story and wants to pry further. But she sighs, giving in.
"Fine, but you're not skipping lunch like you did with breakfast. C'mon, you're eating right by my side today."
I try to protest but she's effortlessly dragging me along with her to the cafeteria.
We get there soon and settle on a vacant table after getting our meals. I'm reluctant to dig in but a glare from Xena forces me to take a bite.
"See? Was that so hard?"
"I hate you."
"Love you too, darling." She smiles innocently, wiping sauce off my cheeks with her napkin.
"Can I get a bit of that love?"
We both turn to Adam holding his food tray and settling next to me on the table. I'm wide-eyed that he's sitting with me again after last time, whilst Xena passes him a glare.
"Fat chance." She responds.
"You look lovely as always, Xena." He passes her a charming smile while casually tossing his arm over my shoulders.
"Can't say the same for you." She retorts, stabbing her spaghetti.
I shrug his arms off my shoulders and his attention turns to me. He fakes a hurt look and I roll my eyes.
"I missed you. I had hoped you would miss me too."
"In your dreams, Adam."
He smirks at me immediately. "Oh, you do more than that in my dreams."
"Eww, gross! Can't you see we're eating?" Xena burst out and I fake a gag.
"Horny as always I see." I quip.
"Only when it comes to you." He winks at me and I force another eye -roll.
"What are you doing here anyway?"
"The usual: spreading love and cheer."
"And chlamydia," Xena mutters under her breath but loud enough for the rest of us to hear.
I burst out in laughter and he pouts like a wounded child.
"Haha, very funny." He responds dryly back at her and she only shrugs facing her food once more. "The rumors about me aren't true."
"Yeah and I'm a pretty green pony with two horns." She adds "Are you?" Adam asks.
This time Xena's eyes roll, shaking her head.
I shake my head at the constant jibing between them, it's almost cute and a great source of entertainment while I pick at my meal.
Their bickering continues for a while before a heavy presence falls upon us, crippling the free-flowing air. All eyes turn to a seething Silas that sends blazing daggers with his eyes straight at Adam. Adam seems stiffer now, probably from the weight of his gaze.
"Adam." He says his name menacingly. "Don't you have somewhere else to be?"
There's silence between them, followed by exchanged looks. Suddenly, Adam rises from his seat. He nods at Xena and me before leaving with his food tray.
The heat in his eyes lights up as he plops right beside me, taking the position Adam had occupied.
I'm confused by what's happening, my senses suddenly unsteady just from having him next to me. Xena frowns but says nothing. The once lively air is heavy with awkwardness and discomfort.
SILAS' POV:
Just seeing him sitting next to her again, joking about god knows what, making her laugh, sets my blood to a boil. I almost make a scene like last time but I force self-control.
With my food tray in hand, I walk up to their table and it doesn't take long for them to notice me. I willingly ooze out my dominating aura to get their attention.
My eyes focus on Adam. He knows what he's doing and it infuriates me more that he doesn't cease it. We had a deal, yet it's clear he plans to make things hard so I don't win the bet. I can see through his sham but it doesn't make anything better.
"Adam, don't you have somewhere else to be?"
I give him the look. He knows to leave immediately but he's being reluctant. He eventually gives in and leaves us.
I take my position right beside Freya and the air is suddenly awkward. She says nothing to me, simply twirling her food around her plate. The bad blood from our last encounter still runs between us I presume, yet she makes no move to apologize.
"You're not eating." It comes out as a statement rather than a question.
She drops her fork on the table, turning to me. "What's it to you?"
"It's annoying the way you're just tossing it around."
"Why exactly are you here, Silas?" She gets fed up with me already.
Maybe I'm here because I was done listening to her and staying away. The more I stayed away, the more Adam tried to sabotage my plans, and the more I run the risk of losing the bet. This is my game.
I call the shots here and I sure as hell don't lose.
Freya will be mine.
"C'mon, don't tell me you're still mad about that." I form the charming smile I've used on countless girls.
She scoffs, shoving a fork full of spaghetti and chewing vigorously.
"You slapped me, remember? Shouldn't I be the mad one here?"
"You deserved it."
"I was trying to be nice."
"And your definition of nice is forcing your lips on mine?"
I roll my eyes at how dramatic she's being. "With the way you reacted, I doubt anyone was forced into doing anything."
She had kissed me back and was trying to pin the blame on me? Hell no.
She looks at me with her eyes reduced into slits. It's a clear warning for me to shut up and leave her alone. She's a tough nut to crack, I admit at this point, but I've crushed tougher things. I decide to take the softer approach.
"Fine, I won't take it personally anymore on the condition that you agree on going on a date."
"I don't care if you take anything personal actually," she mutters to herself quietly but I ignore the statement.
"You clearly have some misguided impression of me. Give me the chance to prove that I'm not as terrible as you think."
"I don't think it's my impression that's misguided."
I chuckle at her comebacks. The refreshing feeling of being challenged is like a drug. I'm more driven to win her over. "You wouldn't know that if you don't give it a try."
"What's in it for me?"
"The greatest day of your life?"
"Still a hard pass." She responds dryly.
"C'mon. If you hate it, I promise not to bug you as much." It's an obvious hoax but anything to convince her.
She remains silent. I assume she's considering it which makes me pleased. It would be a great opportunity. Freya might seem different but she is, after all, female and none can refuse my charms.
"You won't bother me anymore?"
"Yes, basically."
"Fine." she agrees begrudgingly. "But it's not a date - it's just a hangout." "Fine with me." I simply need a few hours alone with her.
We fall into a sort of comfortable silence while eating. The silence is sadly short-lived when Elena suddenly shows up a few steps away. "Silas." She waves, walking towards our table.
I curse internally as soon as I spot her while Freya sighs deeply.
"Dear God," she mutters in a groan.
I'm a bit intrigued to observe the scene about to unfold infront of me and concerned with what Elena might say or do that might ruin my chances of our hangout.
She eventually reaches the table, dropping a kiss on my cheek.
"Hey, babe."
I simply nod as she settles in front of us. Her minion, Lila, following closely behind and sits next to her as well. The air becomes sharper despite that Elena has a wide smile plastered on her face. "Babe, why are you sitting here? We have a table someplace else."
"Yeah, I just wanted to say hi to Freya."
Freya snorts right beside me. Elena passes a look at her and her smile momentarily fades but reemerges as she turns to me again. "That's alright. As the future Alpha king, it is expected of you to perform acts of charity. Keeping a low fishmonger like her company is one of the many tasks you must bear."
I almost choke on my food, breaking into continuous coughing. Elena wastes no time baring her fangs. The air grows thicker as Freya looks up at her, glaring in an equally menacing manner. "Really? What kind of charity does he offer when he hangs with you, huh? Demonstrating that even cold-blooded skanks can get a guy?" "How dare you talk to her like that you..."
"Shut up, Patrick. This isn't your show. Leave the talking to the adults with an IQ above -1." She snapped back at Lila before she could finish her sentence.
Lila looks shocked and backs down pretty fast.
Interesting.
"You have no respect, Freya Willows." Elena fumes, her smile long gone.
She stares at Freya in disgust, probably hoping for it to have an effect. But Freya's resolve remains unshaken. It's hot and sexy all at once, this might just be my best bet yet.
Freya rolls her eyes now, losing interest in the whole conversation.
She rises from the bench, giving Elena one last look.
"Last I heard, respect is something earned." With that, she stomps off.
