FREYA'S POV
After hours of battling with my curls with various detangling instruments, we're finally able to get a sleek bun and curled edges. Xena places a butterfly hairpin as a final touch and falls back onto her bed, sighing from exhaustion.
"Finally." She exhales
I take a look at the finished results. It's giving everything I need and more. On my face is a very mild undertoned makeup that enhances my milky skin and then cherry pink lip tint with a glossy finish. I'm impressed by how good I look.
"Wow, you really outdid yourself today, Xena. I look great."
"I simply brought out what was already there."
I roll my eyes at her classic cheesy comment, standing up to put a few finishing touches to my outfit. It's a dark brown mini dress that clings to my shape, paired with a black leather jacket just in case it's cold outside.
I slide on my black heeled boots and I'm ready to go.
"You sure you want to go on this date?"
Xena starts again with her second-guessing my date with Silas. It had been a real shocker for her walking in yesterday and receiving the news. She thought I was joking till I started getting ready.
"You really shouldn't be hanging out with those people. They're bad news, Freya."
I feel comforted by her concern but the truth remains that she wouldn't get why this needed to be done. I disliked it as much as she did but it's a consequence of the decision I had made. A decision I don't regret. Being an Alpha is who I am.
"Don't worry, Xena, I'm going to be fine. It's all going to make sense someday, trust me."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
I shrug, taking a final look at my reflection, pleased with it.
"I'm going now, don't miss me too much."
I leave, heading towards the path that leads to the exit of the female dorm our meeting spot.
I step out and I spot him a few feet away and my breath gets hitched to the back of my throat momentarily. My heart goes on a full marathon and I shamelessly ogle him all over.
His jet black hair is perfectly sleeked back, bringing out more of his chiseled structure face. He's wearing a body-hugging black t-shirt that shows the bulge of his muscles with more definition and light blue jeans with a pure white sneaker. He drips in literal confidence that simply makes him all the more alluring from a distance.
I manage to pry my eyes off his shimmering glory to focus on his... car?
It's a slick midnight black Ferrari 296 GTB. My inner car fanatic screams with glee. It's either brand new or the maintenance is god- level.
I turn to him excitedly.
"Are we riding in this?"
For some reason, he's standing there frozen and just staring at me with a peculiar look on his face. His eyes slide over me slowly, up and down. My body goes hot and I suddenly feel a bit too self-conscious with my mini dress.
"Uhm... do I look okay?" I'm forced to ask from the way he's eyeing me but feel more embarrassed after the words leave my mouth.
I shouldn't care what he thinks.
He clears his throat, licking his lips subtly and looking away quickly. "You look...okay. Let's go."
We step into the car and put on our seat belts. I can't help staring at the slight changes in his appearance, especially the hair which for some reason, I'm loving it. I almost want to run my fingers through it and feel just how silky it really is, but I snap out of my reverie, looking forward.
"So... where did you get the car?"
"Being the future Alpha king has its privileges." He smirks, turning the steering wheel as we slowly pull out of the school grounds.
"They just let you park your car around and use want?"
whenever you
He turns to me with a cocky look in his eyes, clearly loving how impressed I seem right now.
"Not just me. Most students have cars here, but are being monitored by the school officials. This is after all a high-profile prestigious academy for offspring of Alphas and high ranking officials."
He shrugs like he hasn't just indirectly called himself rich and highly privileged. It's like his new method is dazzling me with how much he has. It might have worked with the car but not anymore.
"So... what was your other school like?" Silas asks conversationally.
I'm immediately on high alert from his sudden question. I had seemed to forget that a date involved a series of conversations that could steer off into one's personal life occasionally. I curse myself for letting my guard down for a second.
"Uhm... the A.C's too cold." I rush to change the topic, faking a shiver. In actuality, it's just perfect.
"Oh." He stretches to the dashboard, adjusting the inner temperature.
We fall into a comfortable silence again before I speak.
"So, where are we going to?"
"A friend of mine throwing a party downtown."
"Oh, wow."
I guess I'm a little disappointed.
We drive in silence for a few more minutes before we roll up into a large mansion. The tall building pulses with loud thumping music that can be heard from outside. There's suddenly cheering going on inside.
While I second guess stepping out, Silas walks out and then over to my side, opening the door for me.
"After you."
Before I can protest, he yanks me out of the car, slamming the door shut and locking the car. There's no going back now.
We make away to the front door, stepping in. The party is buzzing with life. Sweaty bodies gyrating to the rhythmic beat of the music that pulses and reverberates the walls around us
"Let's go get some drinks."
He takes my hand, leading me in a direction and we soon turn up to a table with refreshments. He pours me a cup and takes some for himself. I take a sip and immediately gag.
Alcohol had not much effect on werewolves in small quantities but I still hated the bitter taste. I never understand why anyone would willingly drink this shit, but Silas downs it down like it's nothing.
"Wanna dance?" He asks next.
I look at the thick crowd of bodies and shake my head.
"No way I'm walking into that crowd."
"It's a party, Freya, you're supposed to have fun."
I'm annoyed now and I can't hold back thoughts on this whole arrangement.
"Is this your sick idea of a date? Dancing and drinking bitter alcohol at a party?"
He stares back at me, obviously clueless. The fact he thinks his date idea is perfect shocks me. I wonder for a moment what all those girls he went after saw in him.
Who takes a girl to a party on their first date? There's no chance for intimacy or having actual conversations when the music is so loud. "I thought you were all about getting to know you?"
"I am. We can get to know ourselves better in a more intimate way." He pulls me closer to him by the hips, smirking.
I'm close enough to smell the vodka on his lips. I feel something akin to electricity from the spots our skin touches but I pull away before anything escalates.
It's apparent now that he's not really interested in showing me his real self but rather in making another move on me.
"Take me home."
"What?" "Take me home, ass hat, right now. I don't want to dance with you, just take me home."
He looks taken aback for a moment and makes the move to say something when a girl appears from behind us, clearly ecstatic to see
Silas.
"Babe!" She calls out to him, wrapping her skinny arms around his shoulders and dropping a peck on his cheek. The exchange stirs up some confusion me.
"Babe?" I question with a raised brow.
"It's a nickname." He fills me in. "This is..." "Pearl." She finishes.
"Yeah, that. She's a friend."
The weird wasted girl giggles at this now, like there's some inside joke I don't know about.
"Yeah 'friends."" She puts a little too much emphasis on the word friends.
I just stare at them, putting it all together along with her not-so- subtle hand gesture and wink; then that more than friendly greeting she had dropped on his face. Once I finally figure it out and I'm more dumbfounded, my eyes go wide.
"Oh my god, did you legit bring me to a spot you take all your play things to?"
It makes more sense now. This is just another one of his moves. I am just another chick to these people.
He shakes his head frantically but I'm tired of looking at him, so I turn to leave but he grabs my arm.
"It's not what you think, Freya. I come here with a lot of girls, yeah, but it's not...it's not that."
I pull my hand away from him, not buying his excuse for a second.
"Really? Then what is it Silas, hmm?"
He remains speechless which is enough of an answer I need to understand what's going on.
"I'll be waiting for you in the car."
I turn and leave before he tries to talk me out of this. Screw getting closer to Silas.
Worse date ever.
