FREYA'S POV
Curse Silas and his stupid excuse of a date and that damn Wizard for making me go through all this shit... but damn, I'm really royally fucked at this point, aren't I?
Mentally, I take everything I had said in the heat of my anger back. Silas is an annoying prick, but he isn't worth more than my life and that of my family.
I sigh, slapping the heel of my palm against my forehead. Getting close to a guy isn't supposed to be this hard, is it? Or maybe he is just a special case?
Every time I give him an inch of a chance, he fucks it up with his huge -ass ego, but I can't let him fuck this up for me again.
The words had already been said seconds ago as I make my way to the exit. I want to turn back and maybe laugh it all off as a joke, probably overlook the fact that this place might just be crawling with exes from his past but my pride won't let me.
I groan at the already ruined date.
Ugh, this is all his fault.
I'm halfway there when someone bumps into me, splashing a cup of drink all over my dress.
Great, a nice way to end my day.
She doesn't apologize but only giggles at the stain on my dress. I'm tempted to smack that annoying grin off her face using my already shitty date as an excuse when someone stops me.
"Are you okay?" His voice is smooth and velvety.
I look up to this tall cute guy, a kind smile on his innocent features. He looks like the typical guy you take home to your parents who fall in love with him, cause he can't hurt a fly.
I stare too long cause now he chuckles. I turn away quickly, embarrassed by my painfully obvious gawking. I blame it on Silas as well. He's gotten me so riled up that I can't think straight anymore.
"Here." He's handing me a handkerchief and I take it from him, wiping off the wine from my dress.
"Thanks." I hand it back to him with a small smile.
"Were you leaving?"
"Well, I was..." I pause, an idea striking my mind.
No way my day is going to end today because of Silas. If he could have a plus one on our date, I sure as hell could too.
"...actually I'm looking for a dance partner. You interested?" I make my best attempt at a flirty face and he gobbles it down, blushing like some shy kid.
I take his hand, dragging him to the center of the dance floor just in time for the next upbeat song to start.
'UP' by Cardi B starts playing and I lose myself in the rhythm.
I'm a bad dancer but it doesn't matter right now, no eyes are on me. I sway my hips to the music beat, dancing along with the cute stranger.
It starts friendly; we match each other's dance steps like an improvised choreography. It's weird and clumsy but crazy fun.
The music slowly takes over me and I'm doing my own thing now. I feel sexy and powerful, showing off my moves and he genuinely seems impressed by them.
The beat gets sicker and soon, the crowd begins to howl out into the air. It seems like mad fun letting my inner wolf out, screaming at the top of my voice in the howl.
I don't notice when he stands behind me but soon, he's holding my waist and we're moving our bodies as one and I let him without a care.
Our movement grows more sensual and I feel his hands slowly riding up my hips to my tummy.
My wolf protests, not liking the crawling sensation we feel from his light fondling. I try to guide his hand back to a more acceptable position but he's adamant.
I take it back down but he makes a move again, using the fact that no one is looking to do a fast one on me.
"Hey!"
I'm ready to punch this sucker in the face but suddenly, he's being lifted off the floor and punched square in the face. The cracking from his nose is enough to know that it's broken.
"Silas, what the hell?"
Silas doesn't bother looking at me. His eyes burn bright yellow as he's physically seething with anger. The guy struggles against Silas' hold, but is unsuccessful.
He's choking the poor guy now, drawing consciousness from him.
"Silas!" I scream.
A second passes and he finally drops the guy. The pervert is absolutely frightened, staring at both of us while desperately crawling away in fright. I don't pity his weak ass one bit, but I turn to glare at Silas.
"What the hell was that?" He asks me now, still angry.
"What?" I feign ignorance.
I turn, walking away. This time I do step out of the building, heading to the car but Silas is quickly behind me, blocking my path.
"Don't walk out on me, Freya!"
"And why shouldn't I?"
"I thought we were on a date. I look away for five minutes and you're already all over some guy."
"All over? Obviously, you didn't assess the situation properly but I'm not going to stand here and argue that with you."
"You literally lured him in. I saw you doing that seductive dance for him."
"So what?"
He looks shocked by my nonchalant response.
"So what if I decided to dance with someone else? You're the one that brought me out here to your pick-up joint and let one of your exes kiss you. What's wrong if I have a little fun for myself?"
He remains silent for a while, probably thinking up another perfect excuse before speaking.
"Freya, I told you it wasn't like that."
"Damn you, Silas, you don't get to dictate what I do. You don't own me."
He boils with anger once more, his wolf briefly surfacing again but I'm unfazed by everything he does.
I walk past him to the car again, straight to the passenger seat, slamming the door. I wish I didn't have to leave with him but I don't know my way home.
It takes a while before he actually reaches the car, sitting next to me and shutting the door.
Moments of cold silence pass between us, all the while he doesn't bother to turn on the ignition and take us back to school but I'm unmoved now. If we get back after curfew, I'd just blame it on him either way
He sighs, exhausted, running his fingers through his hair repeatedly.
Again, I remain unaffected.
"Freya..."
I ignore him, looking the other direction.
"Dammit. Look, I'm sorry I took you out on a shitty date. The reason
I brought you here is cause I thought it would be fun but I was very wrong about that."
"Wrong in the most possible way," I mutter
"Will you give me one more chance?"
I remain silent now. One thing was for sure; no matter how annoying he is, I couldn't let this date end on a sour note, not when a lot is at stake. I had no choice but to agree.
"Fine... but if it's another goddamn party, I swear..."
"It's an ice cream place, my favorite actually." He interrupts, chuckling. It's the most innocent and pure sound I've ever heard him make but I make no comment, simply nodding.
We sit on the sidewalk, right outside the closed ice cream shop. It had opened only briefly to serve us before closing for the day again.
I had gotten cookie dough with strawberry sprinkles. Silas had gotten vanilla with chocolate drizzle.
We sat in silence, licking our cones. It's the perfect kind of tranquil silence as I looked up at the stars. We are definitely going arrive at school past our curfew but I don't care anymore.
"This is nice." I start a convo, tired of the silence. "How did you find this place anyway?"
He chuckles a bit. "It's a long story."
"C'mon." I nudge him slightly. "We're already late, might as well kill some extra time."
"Well, it's not long actually. My mom brought me here." He grabs my full undivided attention now.
"I used to come here a lot when I was younger before all the future Alpha responsibilities began falling on my shoulders." He smiles while recalling the memory but there's a hint of sadness in his tone that makes me wonder...
"It must be really difficult on you sometimes - being the next Alpha king, that is." "Well it can be, but a part of me looks forward to it, you know. I derive pride in knowing my pack is safe. I want to be an Alpha king that can do that and more, maintain the economic and social stability my father has built."
"That's actually beautiful and non-narcissistic of you."
He chuckles softly just like before.
"There's a lot about me that no one really knows about." He turns to me now.
There's a smile on his lips but a sadness in his eyes mixed with something else I can't really place my finger on. Despite the lack of sunlight, his silver eyes glimmer beautifully beneath his thick lashes both of which stare at me through me.
It feels like a moment. I feel a pull and suddenly my wolf is howling within me, urging me to move closer. Whatever it is, it's magnetic, but I don't give in to it, looking away.
I feel his eye still on me before it's gone. The atmosphere turns awkward and silent between us again and once more I can't stand it.
"I may not know very much but I think you're going to be a great
Alpha, Silas. I believe in you." The words leave my mouth without much thought but I realize how cliché it sounds.
He breaks out in full laughter that vibrates in his chest, knowing it's the cheesiest thing to say right now. It's a peculiar sound that has me looking at him, almost joining in in his laughter, and just staring at the way it shakes him.
It's cliché but I meant it and he knows it too. He looks at me again this time with a more genuine smile and warm gratitude staring at me.
"Thank you, Freya."
