FREYA'S POV:
Throbbing swollen lips, pink flushed cheeks, and a rushed breath.
I didn't think he'd look more hypnotic but the mien on his freshly kissed face begs to differ.
It's so tempting that I want to smash my lips to his one more time to feel those maddening sparks.
He looks just as flustered as I am. Staring back at me with a burning intensity in his eyes.
What have I done?
Reality is cruel as it crashes down on me hard. I know what I've done, the consequences, and yet I can't find myself wishing to take it back which makes me feel even worse.
"What was..." I can't find the words.
"I mean that was..." He stops midway, battling with his words as well.
We needed to talk about the shit we just did, yet my words had chosen this moment to fail me.
No.
I had to be firm. I don't understand this feeling blazing within me but that kiss felt anything but normal.
I think he knows it too 'cause he's looking a little too shocked.
I make the move to talk but the doors pull open and Xena walks in again with a tray in her hand.
"I brought water, juice and yogurt. Didn't know which you were in the mood for. You can choose one... or all, anything that suits you." She says, setting the tray by my bedside, absentmindedly describing the benefits of each item she's brought.
I turn to Silas with urgency. We need to talk about that kiss but he stands up abruptly, avoiding my eyes and when I try to grab a hold of his hand that had desperately clung to mine earlier, he avoids it.
There's a look of fear in his eyes now.
"Silas?" I mutter, asking with my eyes if we need to talk.
But without another word, he stalks out the room, leaving me there confused.
So, for two months, he's been flirting endlessly with me, trying to get close enough to kiss me again, and when we finally do and the reality of just how unearthly it felt dawns on him, he runs away?
I'm too tired and rundown for all this shit, Silas.
"Where's he dashing off to?" Xena comments seeing him leave the room with so much haste.
She's as confused as I am. Earlier he had seemed like he didn't want to be anywhere else.
Now, it looks like he can't get away fast enough.
Boys... What the hell did they want?
I sigh, falling back against the pillow supporting my back. Again my joints feel a little more movable and the pain has subsided significantly.
Was it the kiss?
Xena hands me the water, feeding it to me despite my protest. It immediately quenches my parched throat.
She hangs with me for a while, filling me on all the details I had missed since being unconscious. The Solstice festival was over and Silas took on all responsibilities by himself without trouble.
Like he had promised, news of my 'accident' hadn't spread, so most people thought I was down with some wolf flu.
If I was strong enough, I could attend the celebration two days from now where they would be feasting and music and the Alpha King and the Luna would be in attendance.
I want to back out on everything involving my exposure to such important people, but my conscience nags at me endlessly.
I had literally done nothing as Silas' partner and it wouldn't be right to skip out on the most important part of my role; giving honor to the winner alongside my partner and the ruler of the Blood moon pack.
Guess I would be in attendance, like it or not.
All that water goes straight to my bladder quickly and
I take an excuse from Xena to use the bathroom.
Luckily the clinic has one in the same room.
Xena offers to help me but that feels too awkward and
I can move my body with more ease now.
I drag myself there, shutting the door. The large mirror gives me the first glimpse of myself since the incident.
I look terrible. My frizzy brown hair is riddled with knots and tangles resembling a well-constructed bird's nest and I look pale with sunken eyes, like an undead zombie.
How was he able to kiss this, I wonder?
I trace my fingers on my still swollen lips, remembering how his hand felt on mine.
"Hello, child." The ominous dark figure at the corner of the mirror suddenly comes into view and I shriek like a banshee.
"What the fuck!"
I jump backward, almost falling against the floor. My heart beats faster, trying to break free from the limits of my ribs.
The gloomy figure adorned in a black hood as black as night reveals only its eyes and lips, the rest of the face still encased in darkness.
Swirling purple eyes with an evil glint greet me.
Well, fuck me.
"Freya, you okay in there?" Xena calls out to me from the other side.
I look from the door to the mirror with the threatening figure. He smiles wickedly at me, raising a crooked finger to his lips.
"Shhh."
Well, of course, I wasn't going to tell Xena a creepy wizard I had made a deal with came to visit through the mirror. She'd think I have a concussion. "Uhhh, I'm fine, just... the tissue paper is a bit too coarse." I form the first excuse that comes to mind.
"Want me to get another one?"
"No, it's fine."
"If you say so."
I wait till her footsteps retreat before turning back to my visitor.
He snickers at me in amusement. His purple eyes make my skin crawl as always.
"Freya, child, I see you healthy as always."
I don't know if it's some cruel joke. I clearly look anything but well and I have a feeling he knows why but chooses not to concern himself with the reason, after all, I'm still alive to return back his favor.
"A bit battered and bruised but you'll survive." "Wizard." I greet stiffly.
"You don't seem happy to see me, I thought we were buddies."
I glare at him.
"I mean, you were so eager to meet with me when it involved giving you my elixir."
I sigh now. Tired of his word play. "What do you want, wizard? feeling so well to have this little squabble with you."
you can see, I'm
He smirks again. It's starting to really annoy me now.
"Don't get too worried, I came to commend you. I see you've gotten closer with the Alpha prince. He's starting to hold you over everyone else." "You must be capping. He doesn't hold me over anything." I recall his painful exist after getting what he needed from me.
It stings.
I was nothing more than some fling to him.
The wizard chuckles at this, exploding into a burst of full laughter. He's laughing at me like I'm stupid.
I don't like it or the way it makes me feel, like worms are crawling up my arm.
"Oh, sweet child. You do not see what is in front of you or what you chose not to see."
What the hell does that mean? "Keep luring him in till he grovels at your feet and promises you the sun and the stars. He will be important in fulfilling that which you owe me." Again with the wordplay.
I have a bad feeling about everything but I can't ask or speak my mind, I know what's at stake. He doesn't wait for the response I don't have and vanishes from my mirror, leaving dreary chills behind.
I can't use the toilet anymore. My bladder's locked itself up, so I leave.
I see Xena dropping a whole feast of food next to my bed, preparing to dote on me for the rest of today. "Why do you look paler than when you went in there?" she asks now, facing me as I lay on the bed. "
Was the tissue that harsh?" "Yeah."
