: JUST A GAME
SILAS' POV:
I watch her retreat as she leaves, not once does she turn back to look at me.
Fuck.
She's definitely pissed again.
I sigh, running my fingers through my hair, messing hours of styling.
But right now, it's the least important thing on my mind.
I hate to admit it but she's all I've been thinking about since the kiss and I can't deny anymore the seconds, hours and days I had waited to do that again and I only fucked it up more.
Things are sort of falling into place, she let me kiss her twice without slapping me in the face...
I was winning and yet, why do I feel like a pile of shit right now?
I wipe away the sticky lipstick on my lips unintentionally recalling her soft tender lips, the feel of her silky smooth skin, the heat oozing from her body and god, the moans from her lips.
Fuck, I'm going crazy. She's going to ruin me
"Did that just happen?" Lucas asks after seconds.
I forgot he was still there.
"Freya just walked out of here looking flustered, man. Did you two..."
"It's none of your business." I snap, adjusting a few buttons that had come loose during our heated session.
"This is good, right?" He keeps talking.
As always he doesn't know when to take the hint and shut up. "I mean, it took a long while but she's finally cracking."
I don't know why my chest constricts a bit as he reminds me of the bet.
"Ignore what you just saw. It stays between us."
"Don't you think Adam would like to know? I mean, damn, she was all over you..."
"Stop talking. Adam doesn't need to know and if he does, I'll let him know myself."
He needed to stop before I give in to the urge to rip out his vocal cords.
I make my way to the exit, passing by him in the process and just as I'm about to leave, he stops me.
"You okay?"
I don't know what answer to give at this point, everything is confusing and frustrating. Yet I maintain a stone-cold mien, reminding myself this was just a game I was winning.
Then I notice the pink smear at the corner of his lips.
"There's a lips stick stain on your lip," I comment.
He seems startled suddenly, like a thief caught stealing. He wipes off the stain quickly.
I roll my eyes, walking out.
FREYA'S POV:
"Where the hell have you been?" Xena rushes to me as I finally find my way back into the large hall room.
"You said you would stay right there."
"I'm sorry, Xena, something came up." I give an excuse while dodging her eyes.
"You could have said something at least. You frightened me. I kept thinking you had gotten yourself lost or almost killed again." She falls into a rant now.
Guilt nags me from watching her. I was out there, letting myself be kissed into oblivion while she worried obsessively over my safety.
"I'm sorry. I won't go far next time, I promise."
She calms a bit despite her still upset facial expression but nods her head.
A bit of relief calms me knowing she's not mad anymore.
But then, I notice something off in her makeup.
"Uh, there is a little smudge on your lips."
Her pink lipstick had somehow run down her lips.
I attempt to help her wipe it off but she recoils away from me, wiping it off herself while smiling sheepishly.
"Uh... must have rubbed it off with the glass cup."
I hadn't noticed her makeup being smudged from the glass cup earlier. If anything, she had been careful.
Her lips had even been perfect when I had left her to talk to....
Wait, a goddamn minute.
The wheels in my head begin, spinning putting it all together. My eyes widen and her shoulder slumps immediately, knowing she's been figured out.
"No way..."
"It's not what you think.... Okay, it's exactly what you think but there's a good reason behind it."
"There's a good reason to kiss your ex?"
She blushes in embarrassment, hiding her face behind her palms now.
I stifle the chuckle bubbling up my throat just from how cute she's being.
"And by the looks of it, it wasn't just your average light pecking. Looks like a full-on spittle swap, judging from the size of that smear." I tease further.
She pulls her hands away, glaring at me with bright red rosy cheeks and I chuckle, unable to hold it in.
It explodes into fits of laughter that vibrate through my chest. I'm having so much fun at her expense. "I hate you," she mumbles, turning away from me.
She's more endearing as always and I have the urge to pull her into a hug.
It's a bit hypocritical of me though. I guess I was lucky enough to spot a bathroom with a mirror before coming back, if not, I'd be on the other side of the joke. "Presenting the Alpha king, Darius Bloodmoon, and his Luna, Lumera Bloodmoon!"
The announcer's voice echoes around the large hall.
The wide space, once buzzing with lively chatter, goes quiet instantly with an almost fearful chill.
Even the embarrassed Xena arranges herself instantly.
They all turn to the large double doors that pull open slowly and very dramatically as the music around stops playing.
The Alpha King and Queen step into the threshold of the door and everyone instantly goes on one knee, bowing in reverence.
I quickly fall to my knee, having learned my lesson painfully the first time.
With my eyes pinned to the floor, not daring to even look up, all I hear is deadly silence and then the clacking of heels and shoes against the tiled floors.
The pressure of the air is thick and heavy, almost as coarse as Silas' dominance but much more intimidating and compelling.
They walk up to the elevated stage with the throne chair already erected in preparation for their arrival. We bow till they finally sit atop the throne and the entire crowd slowly rises from their feet in unison, I follow suit.
For the first time, I look up at the two, ever so curious. I had always wondered what they looked like since meeting Silas.
One glance at the pair and they meet my expectations.
I admit that good looks do more than run in the family bloodline.
Silas is a spitting image of his father. Really. They looked so similar, I didn't need to be told they were related.
The same silky ebony black hair that glistened beautifully, the cold look in his eyes except in place of silver there were pale blue.
The same chiseled facial features, though he was much more mature.
The queen was a beauty aged like fine wine. Fiery red hair cut into a wavy bob, stunning silver eyes; the one she had given Silas.
A slender face with high cheekbones and small lips. She's just too gorgeous to look away from.
"We greet the Shining Sun and Moon of the Bloodmoon pack." The crowd echoes and the Alpha king nods in response.
The elegance of the two was just too breathtaking. "Freya."
I startle from my thoughts, turning to face him.
"Silas?"
"Freya, we need to talk." He says with seriousness and urgency in his voice.
I frown, not wanting to deal with him right now.
"Look, I'm not in the mood for your..."
"Silas!" Elena shuffles through the crowd from afar, making her way to us now.
My gut clenches immediately. "Where have you been?" She whines.
I feel disgusting up y sudden urge to puke.
Despite her whine though, his eyes remain on me alone. I'm torn between following him now or walking away with Xena that stays on the side, watching all this unfold.
I'm about to make a choice, before the deep voice echoes in the hall, making me halt in place. "Let the representatives of the sun and moon for the solstice festival step forward." Alpha Darius suddenly announces.
