                    : RIVERSTONE PACK
FREYA'S POV:
I had known this was bound to happen from the moment Silas chose me as his partner and I actually took him up on it.
Yet the moment has arrived and I'm nothing but terrified.
As I slowly approach the throne with Silas by my side, all I can think about is if I'd be able to pull it off.
Of all the risky shit I'd done, this takes the cake honestly.
The Alpha King Darius Bloodmoon is known to be one of the most ruthless monarchs in the history of Royalty, gifted with a keen sixth sense.
It's because of this that he was nicknamed the all- knowing blood prince during his younger days.
Knowing this, I took further steps into the Lion's den, basically asking to be caught.
At this point, I'm praying to whichever deity that hears me to not be found out because if I am, I am sure to realize that there are things worse than death.
As we reach the foot of the throne, I bow instantly. Silas tilts his head a bit - being royalty himself, he didn't need to do so much for his parent.
From the side of my eyes, I make the mistake of glancing up just a bit to see what they looked up close, out of curiosity.
Dangerous sapphire eyes stare down at me with a degree of animosity that shakes my very being.
Intensely, cold chills crawl up my spine. I quickly look away, trembling from that very brief encounter.
"You may rise."
I rise alright but I don't make the mistake of looking at the king again, forcing my eyes straight ahead.
Calm down, Freya. He doesn't know you're an omega yet. If he did, you wouldn't be standing by his side right now.
He would have called his guards to pick me up and toss me into the deepest darkest cell available.
I take deep breaths, clenching my hands into fists to take control of my body again.
The next events followed as had been planned.
The winners of the categories came out one by one and were given medals of Honor from his majesty.
The Queen stood by, shaking hands with her adoring fans.
Silas and I stood off by the side simply.
It feels awkward and I can't help being incredibly tensed. I can't shake off the feeling that if I make just one wrong move, I'd be caught.
Silas notices this and stylishly grabs onto my hand, giving a firm squeeze and strangely boosting the little confidence in me.
I mean, I was still pissed with him but moments like this when he wasn't being a prick touched me.
Wow, swooning over the son of the guy that could potentially end me once he finds out my secret.
Nice one, Freya.
Once the awards are given and all that stuff, the actual diner part of the event begins.
The main courses are rolled in and it becomes a feast with light music and laughter again, much different from the initial atmosphere.
Silas and I sit on alternating sides of the King and Queen.
He sits by his mother that pulls on his cheeks now, nagging on the imaginary weight he has lost and I, sadly enough, find myself side by side with King
Darius.
The universe really wasn't on my side this night.
There's all this array of glistening colorful food and I'm incapable of even taking a bite because of how frightening this man is up close.
And I swear...
I swear he's looking at me with a side glance. I can feel it, only I don't dare look up at him again.
"Silas!"
The obnoxiously familiar shriek resounds just nearby and I look up to find Elena unceremoniously planting herself just by Silas' side, grasping him into an extra tight hug right in front of his parents.
I wonder if she has a death wish. "Elena misses you." She coos in a child-like voice I find very repulsive and talking in the third person. He doesn't hug her back but allows her to rub herself all over him.
He looks up at me now with something in his eyes but I look away, feeling pain rising in my chest again.
"Oh, sweetheart." Luwena sympathizes with her, frowning sadly. "Silas, you should spend more time with your fiancé so she doesn't miss you so much even when you guys are attending the same school."
The mention of the word fiancé has me feeling even more pain in my chest, like a mini heart attack. It's not like it's the first time I'm hearing it, yet it stings even worse hearing it from his mother.
"We were surprised to hear Silas had chosen another partner that wasn't you. I was especially worried if you guys were arguing." The 'we' she refers to being herself and King Darius.
I almost choke on the soup I had mange to take a sip from.
"Leave the young man alone; let him have his fun while it lasts." Darius jokes now, staring ever fondly at Elena.
What the fuck is going on right now?
Clearly, they know I'm sitting right here yet they're talking about me like I'm not even here.
"I, for one, am curious about this new she-wolf he chose as his partner."
I feel his eyes on me now. My throat constricts, locking up instantly.
Well, there goes the last shred of my appetite.
Silas clears his throat, finally having the chance to introduce me to his parents.
"She's in my class, recently enrolled. Freya Willows,
Alpha female." He fills his father in very curtly.
He doesn't bother to add or describe the sort of relationship we have.
Darius' piercing eyes remain on me still. My head still remains hung while I chant silent prayers below my breath.
"Hmmm, Willows... I don't know of an Alpha with that name." He muses on my identity.
The fear within me only grows more intensely.
"What pack are you from?"
I'm sweating profusely despite the ventilation and my thin fabric dress; everywhere just seems to grow hotter all of a sudden.
Breathe.
I remind myself to breathe; in and out.
I've not yet been caught, I just need to stick this out and then find some excuse to leave.
I gulp, forcing a smile on my lips and for the second time, looking up at the older handsome man. "It's Riverstone pack. You might have not heard it before because it's continents away. We are relatively closed off from the rest of the world and haven't joined the empire." I manage to wring that one out.
I'm spitting lies that shock even myself, but I know at the back of my mind, no matter how all-knowing he was, he didn't know every single pack on the face of the earth & especially packs that weren't part of the Bloodmoon empire.
He hums, watching me a little too intensely. "That's right. She was homeschooled for the majority of her life and decided to socialize with other wolves her age by coming here because, as you know, this is a very popular school," Silas adds in.
I want to lean over and kiss that boy right now, being so grateful. But I don't.
Instead, I remind myself to forgive him for the next two fuck ups he's going to make in the future.
"So, you're a foreigner?"
"Yes but we predominately speak English in our community," I add quickly.
He nods, simply taking a sip of his wine.
I relax in my seat instantly, sighing in relief.
Somehow I had survived the series of questioning without being hanged or burnt at the stake.
I feel more confident now. "Silas, let's go dance." Elena talks up all of a sudden, clearly peeved that she hadn't been the center of attention for the last few minutes.
My fear is gone and I just want to gag again just from watching her little play.
Silas seems reluctant to stand up, looking at me again.
I don't know why he keeps doing it, like I could save his ass or something.
"I think it's a good idea, son. You should dance with your fiancé and get closer to her. Maybe it will help with that rift going on between yourselves." "Is there really a rift?" Queen Luwena chimes in now, looking at Elena like she's a wounded exotic animal. " What happened? Are you guys really fighting?" "She had called me a week back that Silas recently has his attention on other things, making her feeling neglected."
"Silas." She chides her son with her eyes alone and he visibly tenses in his seat.
"I'm especially interested in what exactly it is that caused this rift," King Darius adds again. There it was again, that freaking side glance my way from the King that sends a chill down my spine. "Maybe you and I can have a word about it after." He continues.
He's definitely smiling but there's nothing warm about it. It's all icy and threatening.
The only oblivious people still beaming are the Queen and Elena.
"Go dance with your fiancé." He adds finally, more as a command than a suggestion.
Silas nods respectfully, rising abruptly and offering
Elena his hand.
He leads her to the dance floor and just before she's a good distance away, she turns to me smirking evilly, knowing what she's doing.
I'm left alone with the King and Queen, filled with even more nerves.
"Honey, I'll be right back. Nature's calling." She jokes lightheartedly, rising to her feet.
He nods with a smile as she walks off towards the restroom, leaving just me and the King.
I gulp, feeling like somehow this situation was planned.
No way in hell am I going to willingly sit here longer.
"Uhm... I also need to use the lady's room, your highness. If you'll excuse me..."
I slowly rise from my own seat, getting ready to run off and never return.
He chuckles behind me suddenly.
No, it's not a chuckle; it's a wicked snicker that has me stopping in my spot.
The aura of his thick dominance has me choking almost instantly, its intensity is too strong that I cannot move or run away.
I realize that I am trapped. Panic rushes into me, my instinct's screaming to run, escape, but neither of them is possible. "Sit down, Freya Willows. I want to have a word with you."
