                    : BACK OFF!
SILAS' POV:
"I hate you!"
I can't see her face with my head forcefully swung the other way but I hear the tremble in her words.
I'm speechless at first, still shocked from the sudden assault. It stings but not my face.
Something else stings inside me.
I slowly turn to her wide-eyed, clutching onto my cheeks. My eyes remain bewildered, watching her tremble.
She doesn't even dare to look up to me while biting at her lower lips.
"W-what?"
I don't believe what I've heard from her just now.
"I hate you," she mutters more silently than earlier.
It doesn't sting as less as before, only a lot more realizing I hadn't misheard.
"Freya, what's going on?"
I take a step closer to take her hand in mine but she quickly moves back, shifting her hand out of my reach.
"Don't touch me."
She's acting even crazier, which starts to annoy me. "Don't touch you? What's that supposed to mean."
"It simply means don't touch me." She snaps more fiercely.
"Freya, what's the meaning of this? First, you leave me after what we shared and run away before I can reach you again and now, I shouldn't touch you?"
She still doesn't look up into my eyes which leaves a sort of worry inside me.
Freya wouldn't hold back in challenging me fearlessly with her eyes yet now, she acts wounded and frightened.
"Has someone hurt you? Is that why you're being this way? Just tell me who it is, I'll handle them for you." I sound absurd right now, especially knowing within myself I would really keep to that promise and hurt everyone that has offended her.
If it's for Freya, I can commit any senseless act. If it's for Freya... Just to get her to look at me again.
I feel anxious about the way she's still not looking up at me for some reason. It's making me say or think things I wouldn't ever.
She shakes her head now
"Just stay away, Silas, it's better this way."
She turns around to walk away from me.
I raise my hand to grab her again but I stop myself midair.
She's joking, right?
She's just mad about whatever. In a few days, she would be fine. I don't need to make a fool of myself for her or behave senselessly.
It's just Freya.
Yet I clench my fist by my side, watching her leave with this tightening pain in my chest.
Yet I feel a burning rage and anger swell within me at the thought of having her so far away from me. At the thought of her words.
She hates me?
Undoubtedly, it's a lie.
She did anything both hate me in the garden days ago. She's just acting up.
She wants me to chase after her.
I take a deep breath, restraining myself.
Adam groans from the floor next to me and I remember that he's been here this whole time and why exactly I had been enraged minutes ago.
"Get up," I command curtly.
He slowly rises from the floor, still coughing from the discomfort in his neck
"What's up with her?"
"I don't know, she wouldn't tell me either." His voice comes out almost hushed and pained.
I'm unsure if to take him seriously or not. After all, for some reason, he's been getting too close to Freya behind my back.
"And what were you doing with her?" I say with a low growl.
Memories of how close they were, laughing happily, fills my mind, setting me on fire.
"We were just hanging out, you know, chilling fore your whole crazy appearance." He speaks nonchalantly, dusting his pants
"I thought I told you to stay clear?" I take a step forward, challenging him with my eyes.
I made strict orders for him to stay clear of her weeks before. This is very different from Adam.
Most times, he takes what I say, agreeing with little to no arguments, too laid back to even voice his opinion.
Lucas is the one that most times has trouble with holding his tongue with me.
This is exactly why I'm suspicious of his reason of being with Freya. He's caring too much for my liking.
"Why does it bother you so much that I'm around her, hm? You scared I'm going to make a move on your target?" He smirks now, joking around.
My wolf growls at his joke.
"I need to know I can trust you."
"You know I have your back no matter what. What does it matter if I'm around her anyway? You going to toss her to Elena as always, aren't you?"
I pause, for some reason, unable to answer. For a while, I had pushed that part of the game to the back of my mind, only focusing on the chase and the thrill of it.
Now, remembering what comes after, has me hesitating more than I'd like to agree. I haven't even had a taste of her, yet I'm acting crazy.
"Aren't you?"
I avoid his eyes now. Whatever answer I may muster up, I don't think I can look him in the eye and give it no matter how hard I try.
It makes me wonder...
"No way. Whatever you think you're feeling is impossible. You're an emotionless bastard incase you've forgotten." Adam looks at me like I've gone mad, shaking his head.
I simply roll my eyes at whatever assumption he's made in his head based on my silence.
"I don't think anything. This is just a means to an end, which is why I need you to back the hell off. I know how this works; you're trying to make things hard for me to win this bet 'cause you know I actually will." That's right, that's exactly why I need him to back off - nothing more, nothing less. He's trying to cheat his way to a win but I wasn't going to let him win her over before me.
It still was just a game and Freya was the prize at the end of it.
"Fine, I'll admit. That's how this started, getting close to her and getting her to fall for me instead. But now, it's a bit different."
I freeze at the last statement, reducing my eyes into slits.
"What do you mean it's different?"
"It means, Silas, that I actually enjoy being friends with her. She's different from your average bossy and stuck-up alpha bitch. She's funny and interesting and actually has her own fucking opinion on things. So, no, I won't back off."
"Are you going against me right now?" I seethe, my dissipated rage bustling within me anymore.
I take another step closer to him with a threatening glare.
The way he ever so casually describes how amazing she is, like I didn't know, with that distant look in his eyes that makes me doubt him even more. "Look, you're probably going to toss and leave her devastated. Would it be so bad if I could be a friend to help her through it?"
"She already has a friend." My wolf grumbles from within me.
One friend was more than enough and I don't recall her ever complaining about being friendless enough to need to be his friend.
I don't want him close to her.
The thought of them being closer makes me mad.
Mad enough to rip the doors off the hinges of every room in this school, enough to lock her up so she never sets her eyes on anyone else but me.
"There's no harm in having one more is there." "Adam..." I close my eyes, taking a deep breath. I'm so close to pinning him against the wall and doing much more than choking him.
"Look, Silas, I respect you, man. I'm loyal, but this is different. Focus on the bet. I promise, I won't get in your way." He smiles, patting my shoulder playfully and turns to leave.
It takes everything within me to not reach out to strangle him and let my wolf loose on him. But he's
Adam and for that, I'll let this slide for just this time.
I sigh.
All these raging emotions. I'm acting like an emotional bitch on her period, all because of the words she had mentioned so heartlessly, so easily.
I hate you.
But... she didn't mean that, right?
