: HIDE AND SEEK
SILAS' POV:
I haven't seen Freya in two whole days.
It was like she had deleted herself off the surface of the earth.
She was mad for some unknown reason the last time we had spoken, walking out on me.
Now, she was clearly trying to avoid me. I just know it.
It's typical for a girl to want to be chased, so I guess this is what it is..
It makes them feel special and valued, I suppose. The key to a girl's heart was basically partaking in the chase and sweeping her off her feet.
Yet, I did all that and now, she was in hiding.
I give it two more days at least before she realizes just how much she misses my attention. And comes crawling out of whatever hole she's hiding in.
It has always worked this way.
As soon as the school bell rings, I'm standing right in front of the Nature Chemistry lab and looking down at my wristwatch.
The bell rings just in time. It would take approximately 2 minutes for her to finish up on her project, gather her things, and have a few chitchats with her partner before walking out.
I'm here not 'cause I'm worried, I remind myself, I just want to see if she's still in a touchy mood. Maybe give her a glimpse of what she's really missing.
The class ends, and the teacher steps out, the rest of the students file out behind him.
Once their eyes fall on me, the chattering group instinctively grows chilly, bowing their heads slightly in their greeting.
But my eyes are focused elsewhere as they pass by.
I search for her amongst the students left in the class from the doorway.
"Silas?"
I look to my left and see Lucas staring back at me with a raised brow.
Damn it, I forgot they had chemistry together.
"Did you come here for me?" He looks at me hopefully, stepping closer, his eyes sparkling.
I recoil from him, disgusted.
"No."
"Then what are you doing here? I know you don't have this class today." He ponders on the question he's asking as though he's also trying to figure it out himself.
I groan, finding his questioning annoying.
I want him to leave but telling him to would simply spark his curiosity even more and make things out of a simple situation
"None of your business." I deadpan, turning to the class again.
For some reason, I can't seem to spot her. Two minutes have long passed yet she hasn't walked by.
I look again to be sure she isn't hiding off in a corner. Maybe she knows I'm here.
I smirk to myself now. She's like a little bunny playing hide and seek
"Are you looking for Freya?" Lucas' words pull me from my thoughts and I growl this time.
I was expecting him to leave once dismissed but then again, Lucas never listens.
The last thing I need is for him to know why I'm here. He'll start building castles out of the sand.
"I'm not."
"You sure?"
I sigh now, getting even more frustrated.
"Well, if you're looking for her, she didn't come to class today."
I pause at his words now and look at him. He doesn't look like he's joking around and it explains more than a lot.
Freya wasn't one to miss classes though.
Was she that mad?
I clear my throat, straightening my shoulders now.
"That's none of my concern."
"Hmm." He looks at me doubtfully but then, shrugs it all off, dropping whatever he was thinking.
Now, I wonder just how many classes she had missed. She wasn't in Lupine biology either.
Is she okay?
No.
No, this is an obvious ploy and I'm falling for it. She wants me to be bothered and frantically search for her.
It's another trick in her game of hide and seek.
She's good.
I make my move towards the cafeteria, burying all thoughts of Freya in my mind. She would eventually reveal herself when she grew tired of this chase.
After all, I don't chase girls; they come to me.
The cafeteria is stacked full as always. I take my tray and the line clears immediately, making way for me to grab my food and make my way to my table.
Lucas drops right in front of me only seconds later with his tray.
"Have you tried asking Xena about Freya?"
I drop my fork on the table, groaning. Just when I had thought he was going to just shut up.
"Hey, guys."
Adam shows up suddenly, sitting at the table with the rest of us.
"What's up?"
"Silas is bummed out that Freya is avoiding him."
"Bummer." Adam comments but with a smirk he's trying to hide.
I growl at Lucas now, telling him to shut up with my eyes, but he shrugs simply.
I've been too lenient on him which is the reason for his frequent disobedience.
"She's not ignoring me."
"Really? You sure you don't need help with winning this bet?" Adam jokes, laughing out while Lucas suddenly joins in his tease.
"Frankly, I'm grateful for Freya. This is the first time a girl has ever taken you for a ride. She's truly a formidable opponent."
"She is not taking me for a ride. I have this under control." I almost growl.
"It's been over two months now. The longest time it ever took you to get a girl under you was a month." Adam points out the matter of fact.
"If you want to give up and admit that you can't, it's okay," Lucas adds playfully.
I glare at him menacingly, which makes him shut up this time.
"I will not yield. Freya will be mine." There was some truth in their words though. There were times I had held back or been too lenient with her.
She was like an oddity and I let her take me by surprise and spin my mind beyond control, but not anymore.
I will seal whatever madness that swirled within me causing crazy and weird thoughts in my head.
Any unnecessary guilt or remorse will be ripped out.
I can't let myself get too close to my prey anymore. I would have her one way or another. "Fine. If you can get her to talk to you again within this week, we'll believe you have everything under control."
I smirk now.
That would be easier than a piece of cake. I could get her to moan my name this evening if they requested it.
"Deal."
Just as soon as the last group of students have filed out of the school building just after the last school bell, I walk down the halls to her locker and I find her there.
Not the person I'm looking for but the person that can get to her.
Xena stands there, packing some textbooks probably for the day's homework, clad in her gym wear and soaked in sweat.
This is the first time I've ever tried to approach her, so it feels foreign.
Unlike other girls I go after, she's more brazen and feels more like a guy than a girl. Lucas and his tastes sure are eccentric.
I approach her from behind and stop just behind her. "Xena,"
She jumps suddenly at the sound of my voice, startled.
She turns to me incredulously with her eyes wide open, obviously as confused as I am standing infront of her.
Trust me, I don't want to be here either. Once recognizing me and getting over her shock, she gives a very curt bow that doesn't last for up to a second.
"Alpha." She greets.
I nod my head, simply looking elsewhere. She watches me for a moment before asking, "Is there something you want?"
I clear my throat, flexing my neck and itching it. For some reason, I can't stay still without fidgeting. "Uhm, you're wearing... Uhm, gym clothes."
I'm groaning internally now. I sound like a pussy.
She raises a brow at my observation, looking down at her outfit.
"Uh... yeah, my last period was gym." "Yeah, that's true." I didn't know that nor cared.
"Do you want to ask about Freya?" She asks.
I shrug as casually as I can, putting effort into seeming aloof and uninterested.
"I'm not curious... but how is she?"
"She's fine."
Strangely those two words are enough to calm the raging part of me I hadn't been aware of. All the anxiousness plaguing my mind seizes in an instant knowing she's at least okay and not hurt or sick...
"I haven't seen her in any of her classes."
"Well, you'll have to ask her about that if you find her."
It sounds like a challenge.
So, she is playing hide and seek
Xena manages to offer a polite smile now, slamming her locker shut and walking towards the school exit.
I watch her for a moment before looking away. Just when I said I wouldn't care, I find myself asking her friend about her moments later.
She was taking me for a ride, this one. If she wanted to play, fair enough.
But I wasn't going to let her take the upper hand.
