                    : VOGUE MODEL
FREYA'S POV:
Adjusting to new classes should have been easy, especially class program for dum-struggling kids, yet the stack of notes and projects to be reviewed on my reading desk begged to differ.
Just how much had they done since the beginning of the semester?
Just two days of figuring all this out and I was already tired, though my tiredness stemmed solely from the frustration of my entire school life being turned upside down.
In actuality, the work was much but it was a breeze, a lengthy breeze. I'm just heavily pissed with my situation.
I sigh from the intensive exhaustion, dropping my head on the table just when Xena comes back from her thirty-minute long shower in her bathrobe and her short black hair dripping wet.
"What's with you?" She asks walking in whilst drying her face with a hand towel.
"Nothing, just watching my life burn up in flames before my eyes. You know... the usual."
She gives me a pity glance and I don't blame her. If I could watch myself right now, I'd pity me too.
"Sorry, this whole thing got pulled on you. I wouldn't have seen this coming. You were the first sudden transfer into our school in a long while."
"It's fine."
I slam my books shut, falling backward onto my bed. That was enough book reporting for a day.
I stare up to my ceiling now, wallowing in the stillness that engulfs me as I drown every sound around me and sink deep into my thoughts.
I just had to hold on till I found some sort of routine in all this madness.
That's right.
Once I found a routine, my life would seem less like a jumbled-up line.
I just need to get used to my classes, the new routes, the new cafeteria... miles away from all the friends I have struggled to make, and... Silas.
I scrunch my forehead once he comes into mind again.
I can't seem to meditate without him invading my thoughts again.
Just when I'm about to reach a plane of peaceful- mindedness, his obnoxiously handsome face pops into my mind.
That narcissistic look in his eyes...
I'm sure he hasn't noticed I've been gone for the past two days, probably too busy swapping spit in some dark corner with Elena or some new girl that's grabbed his attention.
I hate that a person so fickle somehow found a way to invade my thoughts and trouble me this much.
I take a deep breath.
Relax, Freya. In a few days, he would only be a fleeting memory.
"You know, Silas asked of you today."
I sit up abruptly, looking at her.
She's already changed into her jammies now, sitting on her bed with a skincare face mask.
"What?"
It sounds too absurd. He had no reason to ask about me. Maybe he remembered my existence once he saw Xena in the hallway and thought to ask.
That made much more sense.
My shoulders slump as I remind myself not to read too much into it. I try to seem chill and uninterested in the whole thing.
"What did he say?"
"Well, after his very poor attempt at small talk, he indirectly asked if you were okay."
"And what did you say?"
"I said you were fine."
"Then what did he say?"
Her eyes reduce to slits now, a bit peeved with me now. I raise my hands in surrender, backing off a bit.
"Sorry."
"Well, he asked why you weren't going to classes and
I told him to ask you that question."
For some reason, my heart is beating wildly in my chest.
So, he did notice.
Not like it was a big deal or anything. Well, it didn't matter because I wasn't going to see him anymore. "I think whatever it is going on between you guys, you should just sit down and talk it out instead of making me the middle man."
I freeze, looking at Xena with urgency...
Does she know?
"Oh please, it's been pretty obvious you guys have been hooking up for a while."
I feel a sudden inflow of gut-wrenching guilt envelop me. For a best friend, I sure do have a lot of secrets hidden from her.
She sees my sudden mood shift and distress and quickly waves it off.
"Hey, it's fine. I don't mind if it's something you want to do, just... don't forget he has a fiancé he's probably going to end up with and that he plays with different girls every other week. I don't want you to get hurt."
"Aww, you care so much."
I rush from my bed to her, gripping her in a tight embrace and cooing in her arms while she chuckles patting my back.
I snuggle into her hold, inhaling the soft scent of peaches and roses from her shampoo.
"Have I ever told you how much I love you?"
"Not often enough." She jokes.
It's a blissful moment and it remedies all the depression and sadness I've been living in for a while.
I pull away from her to look her dead in the eye.
"Don't worry, it's the end of Silas' chapter, so you don't have to worry about that again."
"I'm not sure about that."
"What do you mean?"
"He seemed desperate. I mean, he was asking me of all people. He's not going to let you go that easily."
I chuckle painfully.
She makes it sound like he actually has the capabilities of possessing something in a more nurturing manner.
But Silas was his father's son.
They had to have the shiniest object available as some sort of trophy they could place on their shelves and praise their egos.
They weren't fully capable of seeing people as flesh bags with feelings and emotions that should be cherished.
They were selfish and arrogant Alphas and everything was a game to them.
"Even if he's that crazy, I'll stay clear from him one way or another," I assure Xena now.
"Okay, if you say so." She shrugs. "Just make sure that you're happy."
I nod.
"Now that we've addressed the elephant in my side of the room, why don't we take a pick at yours?"
Her eyes widen like saucers, looking at me like I was crazy.
I simply smirk at her.
Yeah, you know just what I'm talking about.
"Uh... Uhm..."
"Take your time, we have a lot of it."
"Uhm..."
Just when she's about to crack, there's a sudden tap on our balcony door.
"There's someone there, you should probably take a look." She blurts, quickly changing the topic into something else.
I eyeball her now.
She's saved by whoever is on the other side for now, but we will return to this again.
I walk to the balcony door, wondering who it is while a bigger portion of me can only guess.
I take a peek first and it's Silas.
Just perfect.
I'm tempted to leave him out there but then, I can't.
He's freshly wet from the drizzling rain outside that had just begun.
His shiny black hair falls down, dripping all over. His long sleeve cardigan seems damp as well, clinging to his buffed torso.
He looks like a vogue model right now with a sullen look.
I pull the door open, stepping out and closing it behind me.
Our eyes meet awkwardly and seconds of stillness pass between us.
If he wasn't going to say anything, then why go through the stress of coming here under the rain?
"I don't think I'd be able to come here for a while."
He begins.
I raise a brow, wondering what he means. "The security scouting the area just outside your window has tightened for some reason."
"Oh." I already know the reason for that.
It was all to make sure he stopped sneaking into my room.
Just how much does King Darius know about us? Like,
I knew he had spies but were they so idle to peek into our balcony now?
"Well, either way, that's fine by me. I want you to stop coming to this balcony, it's getting quite bothersome." I say with a straight face. He looks at me in silence again, almost like he hadn't heard me at first but then, breaks into fits of laughter.
He lets it roll out him continuously while I glare.
"I didn't know I had made a joke." "Well, you did. Look, you don't have to do this anymore."
"Pardon?"
"You win, okay? I'm here to apologize for whatever it is that's making you so moody." He makes it look like
I should be grateful for his presence.
He takes a step closer, trying to seduce me with his eyes as always.
His behavior only annoys me further. My life is being turned upside down by his father and yet, he takes it as a game?
"This isn't a joke, Silas."
He still looks at me in disbelief. I guess this is the first time a girl has turned him down. "I'm tired of you," I say more firmly.
"You're tired of...of me?" He takes another step toward me, reducing the distance. "Yes, that's what I said."
"I don't believe you." He whispers.
"Silas, can you just..."
At this point, he's close enough for our breaths to mix in the little space between our lips.
The heat of his body on mine has my mind spinning in seconds, realizing just how much I need him to touch me again like he had in the garden.
I find myself weak and speechless again.
"I said, I don't believe you."
And then, he leans in.
