FREYA'S POV:
Now, it's either Norman is just too dumb and mistaking the scent he's getting as something else...
Or, something was definitely wrong.
Even if he was as dumb as the chicken from Moana, a wolf's instinct was impeccable.
We could differentiate between the ranking of wolves easily with just a whiff of the scents they give off or their aura.
Still, there was no way...
It wasn't possible.
The potion couldn't have worn off so suddenly.
He continues sniffing and then his eyes fall on me, dead serious.
"What?"
He says nothing, stepping closer to me.
"You..."
At this point, I'm shaking in my seat. I'm sweating like a pig, my underarms soaked in perspiration
No way, no way, no way.
He stares at me suspiciously as I tremble.
"The smell's coming from you."
Fuck.
Run.
My mind screams for me to run as he slowly creeps in closer to me, trying to verify his new theory.
I leap from my seat quickly, taking a big step away from him.
"What are you trying to do right now, Norman?" I ask with a threatening gaze.
He looks at me like he's trying to figure some shit out.
"Why do you smell like that?" He's asking too many questions that throw me into more panic.
"You're mistaken." I try to steer his suspicion away but he seems more adamant.
He takes another step toward me and this time, I flee without hesitation.
I run through the quiet library causing a small commotion despite the call of the librarian, pissed with the number of rules I violate at once.
I dash out, past the large double doors and towards any direction till I'm completely sure I'm alone again.
I pant heavily, taking in large puffs of air to substitute for the oxygen exhausted from my frantic escape.
There's no bloody way he perceived me as an omega. The potion had worked all this while, it couldn't possibly fall through at this time.
The last words of the wizard suddenly rings through my head; his last threat to me.
But there was no way he would do this.
If I was caught, I wouldn't be able to give him what he needed from me.
He would be losing as well
My heavy breathing slowly gets calmed as I struggle to find a reason for what's happening.
A group of girls walk by, deeply engrossed in whatever they are talking about.
I act natural as I can, wiping off traces of panic from my expression.
Just when they're about to pass me by, they pause suddenly.
The first girl sniffs the air just as Norman had, in the same manner, like there was something pungent in the air and the others joined by, mumbling words.
Amidst all the noise, I could make out perfectly one singularly repeating word.
Omega.
Before they could conclude on me, I run away again. Through the hall and into a place I can find the largest mirror; the girl's lavatory.
I check all the stalls to be sure it's all empty before slamming the doors shut and bolting them with a sturdy mop in the corner.
I'm fully panicking now, still doubting whatever is happening and shaking in fright.
It's like all my biggest fears begin to unravel themselves all at that moment and I'm a rabbit stuck in a poorly dug hole, about to get caught.
Suddenly, there is a loud banging against the door and I immediately conclude that I've been found out. "Open up." A gruff voice calls from the other end.
Norman has probably alerted the school security already.
The school took pride in its prestige and was only for the highest ranking wolves and absolutely no place for omegas, the bottom feeders.
The presence of one was to be reported immediately and any omega would be immediately locked up for infiltrating school territory.
So, he knows the school rules but can't do simple algebra.
In my panic, I finally turn to the mirror with no option left.
"Hey!"
I begin tapping against the glass anxiously over the loud pounding at the door.
"Hey, wizard!"
I knock on it like it's a door.
Countless times, he had been the one invading my personal space, not once had I ever bothered calling him forward.
So, I don't know how this works. I only hope somehow he can hear me through the glass.
"Hey... Wizard, I need your help!" I begin sounding more desperate as the door vibrates and the mop starts to look like it's not going to hold up as long as I want it to.
"Open up!" The voice yells from the other side again as the door vibrates.
Good thing it's a steel mop.
Still unsure, I rush to the door, pushing all my weight against it, attempting to prevent it from ripping through.
I'm not strong as I wish I was but I put all my strength into it.
"Wizard!"
I yell one more time, my fear and frustration finally reaching their peak.
I feel an immediate sense of relief once the lights begin their familiar flickering.
A similar dark cloud forms in the mirror and I never thought how much I'd be glad to see that ghastly silhouette form in the mirror and those eerie purple eyes gleaming at me
"Finally, you're here." I cry out joyfully, still pressing my weight against the door.
"It's a delight to see you so welcoming. Tell me, are you doing something new with your hair?"
I hold myself from snapping back at his sly jab, especially now that I need him.
"To what do I owe the pleasure of your call?" He smiles at me as he always does, mysteriously devious. I grunt, pushing back and glare at him this time.
"Cut the crap. Don't act like you don't know what's going on right now."
I know for sure he's been watching me all this while and choosing to answer just now to put me more on the edge.
He's playing with my life like a game to satiate his boredom and it only sickens me further.
"I don't know what you mean." He continues to play dumb.
"Your elixir; it wore off. I thought we had a fucking deal, this wasn't part of the plan."
He snickers at me now, clearly enjoying the show. He leans against the reflection of the sink in the mirror, relaxing like he's unbothered.
"You seem to forget, Freya, part of that deal was that you'd grant a simple favor of mine in return. You fail to fulfill your end and so, the deal is broken."
He smiles at me.
"B-but, I can't. King Darius... he's going to lock me up if I so much as come less than 5ft close to his son. Please, ask for something else."
"I want nothing more. Get close to the son of the
Alpha king to fulfill your end of the bargain." He repeats firmly.
"I can't!" I scream out trembling as the tears pour through me.
I can't get any closer to Silas.
I couldn't face King Darius' wrath. I wasn't strong enough to dare to pull off such a feat.
"If you cannot, then I cannot uphold my own end."
He began to fizzle away just as he had come and more panic settles within me.
If he leaves, I would be alone. I would be found out and sentenced to a most gruesome death.
He's clearly forcing me into a corner and I can't refuse him.
"Wait! Please, wait!"
I yell out just before he can fade away.
His form solidifies and he smirks, having me just exactly where he wants me. I know I'm being played as a tool, but I have no power to fight against his will.
"What will it be, Freya? Will you fear your Alpha King or will you grant me just this simple favor?"
I bite my lips, unable to look up at him. Hot tears burn my cheeks.
For the first time, I begin to contemplate that maybe, just maybe, I had made a mistake in making a deal with the devil.
"I will grant you the favor," I mutter dejectedly below my breath.
His wide grin breaks into evil laughter that echoes against the walls of the space enclosed in this room, shaking the lights that blink unnaturally.
He derives pure pleasure in my terror and watches me, pleased with my choice. "You've chosen wisely, Freya." His crooked, black form fizzles out into smoke that slowly disappears from within the mirror and the lights return to normal.
The pounding stops behind me and I fall to my knees.
Shaken with fear and self-hate from my weakness, I cry.
The tears rip through me forcefully and I am unable to hold myself, my pain only being a catalyst.
I cry for the seconds of silence I'm given before the pounding continues, harder than before. Before they're able to force open the door, I open it myself, tears wiped clean and a small smile on my lips. On the other side, a security personnel stands next to
Norman just as I had suspected.
He looks at me, then behind me but he can't go in because it's a girl's bathroom.
"Can I help you?" I say confidently, raising a brow.
"We had a report that an omega was running loose in the school. Did you happen to see one?"
I take a deep breath and let it out, putting all effort to make my voice sound as sturdy as possible. "No, I haven't seen an omega." He watches me for a moment, still on guard, and looks behind me again.
It's clear he's doubtful but can't seem to pick up any
Omega scent - the elixir masking it perfectly again.
"Very well, Miss. If you see one, please notify school security immediately."
I look between him and Norman, watching me expectantly and I gulp hard. My hand trembles by my side but I clench them hard.
I force my smile again and nod reassuringly.
"Ofcourse, I will."
