FREYA'S POV:
I had always imagined that if a time would come and Xena and I had to fight off a two-person team of girls, it would be a tag team kind of situation, like in wrestling.
But damn, was I wrong?
She was a full team on her own, pouncing like a lioness while I sat on the side and watched it unfold.
Sadly, all the initial screaming had attracted attention and security was pulling us apart before more damage could be dealt.
"You crazy brute! You worthless pig!" Elena screeched wickedly while being held back by the guard. "I'm going to rip your eyes out when I get the chance!" She screamed again.
Her threats were directed at Xena who was also being held on the side.
"Why don't you come closer and say that to my face?" Xena threatens, attempting to free herself from the two built men holding her back.
Elena remains silent for a moment, for the first time not trying to break away from the guy holding her back.
I see what you did there.
I watch it unfold beautifully, with Lila's sobs on the side as she clutches her bruised face, serving as sweet background music.
The conflict dissolved quickly after that.
Punishments were given out unevenly though. Xena and I were given the role of toilet cleaners for a week with a 6 pm curfew for two weeks.
While Maleficent and her side-kick were simply told off.
The injustice was on the basis that we had started the fight, and Elena and Lila were 'defending' themselves.
It's obvious foul play but it doesn't annoy me much; the beating they had both gotten was enough to give me a good mood for the rest of the week.
Xena and I walk into our room after the whole fiasco. My hair and clothes are in disarray, a tear on one arm.
All that, plus the limp in one of my legs is clear evidence that I'm fresh from a fight, but Xena remains as flawless as ever.
A moment of silence befalls us before we burst into laughter once our eyes meet.
"Did you see the look on her face when you ripped out those hair extensions?" I add in between my fits.
"It was priceless. I've never seen her make that face before. What about Lila?"
"Oh, my god!" I break into more laughter, recalling the look of horror gleaming in her eyes once Xena turned to face her.
She had been all cocky but once her friend was done, she was already looking for somewhere to hide.
Xena crashes backward against her bed, laughing her heart out and I plop just right next to her and wince from the sudden pressure on the bruise behind me.
"Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, not as battered as they are." I quip.
"Yeah." She reminisces while rubbing her knuckles absentmindedly.
It's only then I notice the bruised skin atop them. It seems she hadn't been fully unscathed from the brawl.
"Does that hurt?" I comment, taking her hands in mine
"Nah, not really."
Still, I rubbed the bruised skin ever so softly with my thumbs raising them to my lips and blowing cool air against them.
I know it won't do anything to fix the damage but I feel responsible.
Even in my weakness, I end up dragging the people I care about into dangerous situations.
"Stop it," Xena says suddenly.
"Stop what?"
"You're doing that stuff where you blame yourself for everything. It's written on your face."
She's not the first person to read my mind just from watching me.
"Am I that transparent?"
"You're an open book."
I sigh deeply now, avoiding her eyes for some reason.
No matter how she's going to put it, it won't ever change the fact that it is, for a fact, my fault she had to bruise her fists.
"I'm sorry I dragged you into this."
"No way, I've been looking for a chance to punch her square in the face for years." She smiles fiercely.
"What if she tries to get rid of you like the rest of the girls that crossed her?"
"I'm also a top student here with amazing connections. She can try, but it won't be easy." She shrugs, unfazed by the thought of Elena as a threat.
I smile, feeling a bit at ease and amused by her zealous hate that matches mine.
There was nothing like mutual hate to strengthen a bond. "Why were you guys fighting though?" She begins.
I remain silent, unable to come up with a sufficient answer that doesn't make me look like a typical pick- me girl fighting over a boy.
"C'mon, you have to at least tell me what's going on, even if it's a tiny piece." Xena pushes after my silence.
"Well... the typical thing that tips her off."
"Silas?"
"Yeah."
"Why though? They've been stuck to each other like glue for the past week."
Her words sting my heart suddenly. I unconsciously bite my lower lips.
The foreign sensation fills my throat, partially clogging it and making it hard to swallow. His name seems to trigger this series of emotions every time.
She notices the sudden change on my face, retracting her words quickly
"Sorry, I didn't mean to-"
"It's fine. I really don't care about what he's up to these days. We just had a fling."
"You don't look... fine though. You've been depressed these past few days."
"That's because of my new class placement, it's been hell." I defend.
"Is that also why you've been actively pushing him away?"
I sit up, suddenly looking down at her disbelievingly.
"I thought you hated him. Now, you sound like you're trying to hook us up or something."
"Trust me, I'm not. He will forever remain a sleaze bag to me. It's just.... you seem a lot gloomier these days; I'm just worried." She flashes a concerned look that softens my heart too much. "It's... I'm fine." I try to offer.
"I know it's not. You're not. Just like I know all this shit is connected somehow. After that night, you became different, pushing him away, you being all distant and then, that mysterious shifting of your classes..."
"You really don't want to know, Xena."
"Fuck... I'm right, aren't I? This is all connected!" Her eyes widen with excitement, knowing she's put a bit of the puzzles together herself.
I remain silent, reluctant to let her know.
I don't want her to somehow get in trouble just for knowing, just like she had gotten in trouble earlier for defending me.
"Talk to me." She pushes again and my resolve chatters like poorly made glass, and I spill. "King Darius knows that Silas had an interest in me."
"What? How did he know that?"
I remain silent.
I can't reveal everything to her, only a fraction that is understandable on its own.
My hands tremble as I relate the encounter, with her remembering just how powerful his presence felt and the terror that came with it.
"I can't be around Silas anymore and that's the reason for my sudden transfer to the other school building." I finally reveal the somewhat big secret I've been keeping to myself for weeks now. I can't meet her eyes. I fiddle with my fingers instead.
More guilt bites at me knowing it's just a fraction of what's really going on and I have to lie further that it's just this.
Silence passes and I can almost hear the wheels turning in her head while she's deep in thoughts.
I try to look up at her but she pulls me into a tight hug in seconds, squeezing the life out of me before I know it.
"I'm so sorry this is happening to you." She begins, her voice shaking from obvious tears.
Wait, she's crying?
"You've been so strong handling all this on your own."
She hugs even tighter.
I'm taken aback at how easily she believes and accepts me in only seconds.
Her emotions reach me and soon, I treble against her. My brittle walls crumble in seconds. It's different from when I was with Adam.
Now, I feel like she could somehow really get what I was going through and I wish I could tell her every single thing that hurts me.
But I can't.
Instead, I clutch onto her arms wrapped around me in a deathly squeeze and cry my soul out, till my nose clogs and my eyes burn.
