: HIDE!
FREYA'S POV:
Out in the open large field, right beside the main school building, all the students gather in our sport outfits for a run.
The setting is almost as similar as the one months ago, the first night Silas and I had hung out.
The exercise is much more different from that, however, with no racing being involved.
We are divided into groups to scout the bushes and train in our wolves.
The best part of this exercise is all the students in both different programs participated together.
It's a huge relief once I spot Xena few feet away. Her eyes lit up almost as bright as mine.
"Xena!" I cry out, dashing towards her. "Freya!"
We grip ourselves in a bone tight hug, with Xena almost strangling me.
Once all the air has been squeezed from my lungs with no way of taking more in, I tap her before she lets me go, dropping me back down.
"Sorry, you are so light. It's so easy to pick you up and squeeze you to death." She jokes, chuckling whole heartedly.
"Yeah, I missed you too." I interpret her death threat as a form of affection, smiling back awkwardly.
"Omg, I can't wait to see your wolf and for mine to meet yours. I'm sure they're going to be best of buddies, just like we are!" She shrieks excitedly.
I smile again, hiding the intense apprehension rising up my throat in the form of ghastly bile.
"Yeah, about that... I don't feel too well."
She pauses quickly, looking at me.
"What's wrong?" Her forehead folds into worry, making me hate myself for the next words I'm going to say.
"I can't go on the run. My... back hurts."
"Oh."
Every day I run out of more plausible excuses for not being able to participate in the physical activities. The coach's glares are staring to become more menacing.
I'm certain that someday, I won't be able to pull them off. I need to find a solution soon.
Xena looks dejected, her shoulders visibly slumping.
"Well, I guess I won't see her today."
I feel bad instantly.
"I promise, one day you'll meet her." I assure her even though I'm unable to keep my promise to her.
For a moment, I wonder if our relationship would be altered once she finds out I'm an Omega, the lowest of the lower.
No, she would never find out. It would remain a secret no matter what.
"Hey! If it isn't our most precious duo."
From the corner of my eye, I spot Lucas approaching the both of us, grinning from ear to ear.
Xena scoffs suddenly, folding her hands below her chest and looking the other way. My curiosity piques even more.
"Hey." I wave just as he stops right beside the both of us.
"Little angel, you look as cute as ever."
I smile awkwardly, nodding my head.
He turns to Xena now.
"Xena."
"Lucas." She responds stiffly.
"C'mon, if you frown so much, you might age up a few years. Don't want to look like an old lady in your thirties."
He tilts his head all up in her face. She turns the other way again, avoiding him.
"I'd be a granny and still be above your standards." She snaps back.
"Oookay... I guess you guys are fighting again."
Xena snorts.
"I have much more important things to do."
"Does one of those things involve grooming your ego?" She growls at him now, even I find his persistent grinning kind of annoying at this point.
I step in between the both of them, pushing them a good distance.
"Okay guys, take a chill pill."
"It's fine, Freya. Xena and I aren't fighting for whatever reason." He reassures me.
I look at Xena mumbling silent words to herself with a deep frown etched above her brows and then, back to him.
"You sure about that?"
He chuckles lightly now. "You're almost as comical as she is."
"Uhm... thank you?"
"Exactly what I mean. Anyway, the reason I'm here; how is Silas doing?"
"Uhh... I don't know. Shouldn't you be asking someone else?
"Well, these days, Silas tends to do whatever he wants and that includes following you around. I just hope that he's doing well as his friend."
I sense a bit of hostility hidden behind that well practiced grin.
"Like I said, I wouldn't know."
"Well, that's fine. Carry on." He nods respectfully, turning to leave.
I watch him till he's a good distance away.
"Why am I only noticing how creepy Lucas seems just now?" I say my thoughts out loud.
I can't seem to shake off the feeling of hostility coming off him. It was almost as though he doesn't really like me as much as I thought he did.
"Not creepy. More like an annoying asshole." "Wow." I turn to look at her now. "What did he do?
Few weeks ago, you didn't mind making out with him and sneaking him into the girls dorm."
"It's a long story."
I'm tempted to pry a bit more but I hold myself back, more like I'm distracted momentarily.
My wolf jumps up in excitement within me, scratchy to be let free just from his scent.
For some reason, it's getting much easier to know he's around me.
It's like my senses are heightened only for him.
I know exactly where he is and as Xena begins ranting on and on about Lucas, I turn only a bit, glancing at him with my eyes.
He's a few feet away, standing tall among a fleet of taller people.
He catches my eye so easily, clad in his sport attire that clings to his well-toned muscled body.
The noisy world around fades to nothing once he comes into my field of vision.
As though he knows I'm watching him, he turns my way, locking eyes with me immediately.
My cheeks immediately burn, turning a few shades of red for sure. Yet, his eyes hold mine even longer. Images of the day before fills my head and I look away immediately, feeling too embarrassed to stare a moment longer.
Whatever crazy hold he had over me was growing out of control too quickly.
I focus harder on not looking his way once the teams are finished dividing.
Since I have an excuse to skip the run, I'm not obligated to join them, so I go off in a different direction while all eyes are focused on the groups.
As much as I don't want to participate, my wolf needs to run wild even if it's for a moment and return before the teams come back.
I go deeper into the woods, far from the designated areas and begin taking off my clothes, hiding it among a few shrubs.
I go on my knees once the transformation begins and my consciousness slips into the back of my mindz letting her push through.
In only seconds, my hairless body changes into a brown wolf that howls into the air, finally free. We take off immediately, letting the air run wild in our fur. Dodging the trees and leaping over small cliffs in our way. We pick up speed, running faster - as fast as we can - till our heart pulses hard and painful, a sweet kind of pain.
I let her take full control of the reigns, seeing as I hadn't let her out in weeks now, allowing her to take us wherever she wanted to go. It feels like an hour before we finally slow down, stopping by a lake to drink the clear trickling water.
The air is simply tranquil and peaceful. All the built up tension melts like butter.
We sit just by the lake, resting and taking the view in for minutes.
The quiet peace is interrupted quickly though.
From ahead, we hear footsteps trudging fast in our direction.
Hide!
I scream just within our thought. She hides immediately between some trees.
After a while of waiting, a large, golden brown wolf suddenly appears, much taller than mine. Definitely an Alpha wolf.
It moves up the lake we had just been at to take a drink and stops immediately.
It begins sniffing up to the exact spot we had just been in. A low growl comes from it as it turns to the tree we're hiding at and slowly begins walking up to us.
