: SWEET LUCAS
FREYA'S POV:
She drops me atop the hard bed with so much ease, all without breaking a single sweat even after carrying me the entire way here.
I sigh, coming back to the very familiar room again for the third time.
I also know this wouldn't be the last, seeing as my luck has been anything but good recently.
Xena drags a seat close to my side with a first aid kit, dropping next to me.
"Let me see it."
I gently raise my legs, dropping them on her lap without hesitation and she gets right into what she needs to do; pulling my socks out of the way and accessing the problem.
"Lucky for you, it's not that bad. It should heal in a few days."
I nod, simply watching her dress it.
Seconds of silence pass again, with nothing left to say and an atmosphere of stillness, I ask the question that had been on my mind for a while.
"It's okay if you don't want to say much about it, but I can't help but be curious though... about you and Lucas."
She pauses for a brief moment, most definitely stunned by my question but resumes wrapping my ankle in a bandage.
"It's okay if you don't want to say," I repeat for fear of upsetting her.
"No, it's fine. It's not even that deep actually. In truth, I don't even know why I'm taking it that personal." She chuckles painfully while avoiding my eyes.
I already know whatever happened had gotten to her pretty badly for sure, regardless of her excuse.
"Whatever it is, I won't judge and I know you have every right to feel whatever you're feeling."
"Thanks." She looks at me now, smiling brightly.
Another second of silence rolls before she speaks again.
"When we first met actually, it felt almost magnetic. All of a sudden, he was everywhere in every class, and we became good friends instantly. We clicked perfectly and started dating in only a month."
She pauses, tucking in the white bandage and knotting it tightly.
"Thanks," I say assessing the dressing.
She simply nods.
"He was a bit eccentric but it was cute. It even made him more endearing, especially his very subtle obsession with pack loyalty and all that."
"Pack loyalty?"
"Oh, yeah. Just like Silas, Lucas was raised with the mindset to be the perfect Zeta for the future Alpha king since he was chosen right from birth, and he takes that shit very seriously. You won't notice it cause he always seems aloof."
"I wouldn't have pegged him for the 'upholding family honor' kind of guy."
She chuckles a bit from my words and continues.
"Yeah. That aside, it was around when gossip about Silas was really getting rampant. He was picking girls every week and soon, rumors were going about his friends doing the same and I got bothered by them."
"Oh, wow."
"It was stupid. I shouldn't have listened to them but they were everywhere, Freya. I confronted him but he denied them and then, one day... we had a party at school and I saw him with... I saw him with some girl
"Gosh, Xena. I'm so sorry."
"It's okay, actually. It wasn't that much, thinking about it now. They were in a compromising situation, it's not like I saw him kissing her or trying to do some weird shit. She was just all over him."
"Oh, that's kind of good, right?"
She looks at me sadly, shaking her head slowly.
"I got so mad and made this huge, ugly scene and then, I walked away. He never came looking for me - never apologized or tried to make me understand that what I had seen was wrong... He just let me leave."
"Wow, that's terrible."
"Yeah, it is. That's how we broke up. It's obvious he cheated and felt so guilty. That's why he never tried to explain. Or maybe, he never really liked me that much to begin with."
"Xena..." I coo.
I pull her into a tight hug, the tightest I can muster, patting on her back in a slow rhythm.
Even though it's been a long time, I can tell from the tone in her voice that she was still hurting from it.
The memory alone must have haunted her. The fact that he never bothered to explain himself and never gave her closure must have torn her apart repeatedly.
He was like her own Silas, spinning webs around her that couldn't be untangled.
"The worst part is I still sort of feel that magnetic pull between us sometimes, and give in to him. It drives me crazy every time. I hate him so much yet I want to kiss him so hard. He loves playing on my weakness." She groans, burying her face into my shoulders.
I sigh, rocking sideways with her.
"I can understand how you feel to an extent. Guys are asses."
"Yeah, annoying asses. I ended things with him finally a few days ago and he simply nodded and walked away. Like, what the hell... my poor aching heart." Xena sniffles.
"Hey, you don't need him. You have me, okay? And if you ever want to prank his ass hard, I'm your girl, okay?"
"Thanks, Freya. I really needed to do this." She leans away from me, wiping a bit of moisture from her eyes and smiling as bright as ever.
My heartstrings are pulled by how sad she looks but I'm much more proud of how strong she is, being able to smile so warmly despite all that's been going on with Lucas.
In a way, I'm also envious of her being that brave.
I wonder what Xena would have done in my situation.
Probably pulled the wizard right out of the mirror and punched him square in the face, or dared King Darius to do his worse.
Either way, she would have handled it perfectly like the boss she is.
She stays with me for a few minutes more before having to leave for some of her classes that she couldn't miss.
I miss her once she's gone but then, I remember that she's my roommate, and I see her after school.
But I still miss having lunch at school together, like we used to.
I wait in the nurse's office for a while more, just being lazy before getting too bored and deciding to leave on my own.
Just as I step and begin heading to the other building,
I'm startled by the figure that suddenly pops up right behind me.
I stagger on my sore foot, almost falling over before catching myself and leaning against the wall.
"Did I startle the little angel?" Lucas asks, tilting his head over me.
His characteristic wide and friendly grin was plastered onto his handsome face as usual.
I can instantly see how he's able to capture a babe like
Xena so easily.
"Holy fuck!" I exclaim, calming my racing heart." Where the hell did you come from?"
"I've just been standing here." "Well, that's creepy as fuck." I comment, looking at him.
I push myself onto my feet again and begin making my way to class, trying to ignore him again. But this time, I can feel him right behind me, no matter the distance I'm sure I've put between us.
I stop, swerving around and I'm right, seeing as he's still standing right behind me.
"Did you hurt your ankle? I don't remember seeing you leave with a group though." He asks with a sweet tone.
"Are you following me?" I ignore his question, asking mine.
"You answer mine; I answer yours."
"Yes, I did," I respond, leaving out any more information.
"Hmm, sad." He says casually.
"Well...?"
"Yes, I am following you."
"Why?" I reduce my eyes into slits and try to figure this pretty boy out.
Don't fall for that pretty face, Freya. He's scum.
"Why?" He chuckles. "Well recently, he's been skipping classes and tossing his responsibilities to the wind only to chase a girl he should have been over weeks ago. Ofcourse, I'd be worried." He says all that so sweetly, it's terrifying. Well, I wasn't expecting that.
