: A BREAK
SILAS' POV:
"If I leave this room, it's over. I won't chase you anymore and try to fix this shit with you. There's not going to be effort on my part again. We'd be breaking up."
Despite her threat, her eyes plead with me to give in like I always have; to the guilt, the overwhelming pressure, to her wants.
"Leave." I respond curtly.
"Silas!"
"I'm sorry, Elena, but I don't need this right now."
She watches me, heart broken. The hurt in her tears- stained eyes stare back at me.
"You're a heartless prick." She mutters, gnashing her teeth with her fits clutched at her side.
I say nothing because there's nothing left to say. It is only silence I can offer in this situation.
We've been together for more than enough years and no matter how much she irked me, I had let her remain by my side.
Maybe this is just what we really both needed, a break from this madness.
She leaves without much of a hustle, huffing bitterly and picking up her discarded clothes resting on a chair, then stomps out.
I'm not in the slightest bit worried that she's out naked at 2 o'clock in the morning, heading back to her dorm room alone.
That's just how little she means to me, I realize.
Yet somehow, I'm meant to be mated with someone like her.
I realize how much big of a flop I've made pushing her away, but I can't bring myself to regret it as much as I should, only worried about the outcomes this break would mean.
Without a second more to waste, I stomp out of my room, walking a few feet away to another door. I don't bother knocking, and push the door wide open.
Adam and Lucas turn to the door in unison as I swoop in without a word.
They're wide awake just as I am, seeing as we had just finished paroling the perimeter minutes ago for a rogue that was never found.
I waste no second marching up to Lucas and picking him from his desk by his collar.
"Silas!" Adam yells, standing up to his feet instantly.
He quickly moves to my side while I glare intensely at
Lucas.
Unlike Adam, he looks limp and tired, unaffected by the hostile look in my eyes, of the possibility of me breaking his nose in this instance.
Basically no fear, like he's given up.
"You fucking told Elena?" I fume, holding back the urge to smash his face into the wall.
"She's your mate, she needs to know." He states it like some recited law he's drilling into his mind.
"Bullshit." I push him backwards.
He stumbles on his feet before falling to the ground.
"My relationships are none of your business!"
"Not when the future of our pack rests on it. Not when your future is at stake."
He repeats the same bullshit he constantly goes on and on about again. It's getting tiring hearing it from him.
"Your loyalty should lie with me before this pack or anything else."
"It does. Everything I do is for you. But you're too engrossed on getting your dick wet to think straight."
I take a step closer to him to feed into my rage, but Adam steps in, holding me back.
"Silas, relax." Adam says while holding me back
"Do we have to do this every single time she's brought up in a conversation and I offer some words of wisdom to you?" Lucas asks as he rises to his feet and dusting his shirt.
His expression remains unapologetic.
"I don't want to repeat myself again. Don't discuss anything personal with Elena if I did not ask you to." I warn but he remains silent of course.
I already know he's not going to stop - we both know it. He won't stop till he's sure I'm fully focused on this 'noble duty' cause I owe my pack.
I shrug my arm away from Adam's hold, making my way for the exit and pause.
Might as well let them know now that I have the chance to.
"Elena and I broke up this evening."
"What?" Adam exclaims first. I can imagine the perplexed expression on his face.
"Are you crazy? Did you consider what your father would do when he finds out about this?" Lucas yells out, losing his shit just as I expected him to.
Even I hadn't imagined it would ever come down to this. I had followed my duty right from birth, but maybe I didn't need to do that anymore.
"I'll handle it." I respond simply, walking out of the room without another word.
The sun rolls up after a few hours and I remain fully awake without a wink of sleep or shred of tiredness in my bones.
I'm doing my third hundredth bench press by the time my alarm rings at its usual time.
I hop to my feet, grabbing my towel for a quick shower just as my eyes fall on the shirt draped over my bed.
Today, I need to apologize to Freya and return the piece of clothing back...
Also tell her everything before Elena goes off and runs her mouth.
She was sure to hate me most definitely.
Her anger and hate could run as long as we were in high school, up to a few extra years. But I am ready to wait till she eventually lets it go.
Funny, I had never thought I would consider waiting years for forgiveness from any one, much less a she- wolf.
Yet here I am, unable to get the tiniest and feistiest one out of my mind.
After the shower, I dress up in loose-fitting gym gear, getting ready for the last school run before the break.
I drop the shirt into my bag, knowing I'd for sure spot her in the crowd, and leave.
The school field, just before the entrance into the woods, is filled with a crowd of students gathering with unending chatter.
Just as I walk in, the portion of the crowd about me grows silent and part ways like the red sea.
All the while I walk through, my eyes search for no one else but her.
It will be easy to spot her just by picking her scent in the air. Her sweet and savory scent.
Weird enough, I don't pick it as easy as I usually do, which probably means she's farther away.
As I search, my eyes make contact with Elena a few feet away, watching me with a pissed off glare and red puffy eyes.
The look she gives me is one of vendetta, and I only assume she's thinking up ways to get back at me.
But there are much more important things on my mind right now, so I look away. Few feet ahead in the other direction, I spot Freya's friend that sticks to her like glue and has too much gut that I find heavily annoying, standing off alone. I really don't want to but without a choice, I move closer to her, deciding to enquire on Freya's whereabouts.
"Where is Freya?" I ask dryly, not in the mood for one of her mood fits mostly always targeted at me for no reason.
She slowly turns to me with dangerous blaring eyes.
Why am I not surprised?
They are red and puffy, worse than Elena's, and still wet and dripping. She stifles a sob, biting on her lower lip.
Her face alone points accusations at me, accusations on something I'm probably unaware of.
I'm uninterested neither in whatever is bothering her nor in the mood to hear whatever childish remark she had to attack my reason for wanting to see her friend.
""Where's Freya?' I should be asking you that." Her lower lip trembles.
"Why are you asking me? Shouldn't you know that, seeing as you're roommates?"
She scoffs now, laughing with bitterness laced in her every expression and movement. "Don't play dumb with me." She begins.
I growl a warning, baring my fangs at her. "Do I need to remind you of your place?" I ask with an obvious warning.
She glares back but bites on her tongue, lowering her head in respect. I retract my claws once she's obviously calm and not wanting to bite my head off.
"What's going on?" I ask in a much calmer tone now. She remains quiet, reluctant to speak before looking up at me again. Worry and pain mixed in with anger gleaming in her eyes.
For some reason, it puts me on edge.
"Did something happen to Freya?" I ask.
The tears she's been holding in begin pouring out of her eyes. "She never came back to the room last night."
