FREYA'S POV:
"Lucas... what do you mean? Why are you looking at me like that?"
I dare not expect anything right now, but the bright look in his eyes and that warm smile brimming with excitement and joy, unlike the dead eyes he has been sporting from the first day I got here.
"Please, tell me you're not pulling my legs right now. That's too expensive of a joke to play with!" I say, suddenly feeling some kind of anxiety taking hold of me.
He walks in, kneeling down to my level and taking my hands.
"I mean it, Freya. I'm here to take you out." He repeats himself, chuckling with what looks like happiness.
No...
No way...
There's some sick game behind this somewhere.
"I don't believe you." I turn away from him, turning into a ball. "You're trying to mess with me, right? You're trying to get my hopes up, then torture me in some sick way again, right?" I say, trembling while rocking myself back and forth and closing my eyes.
"No, Freya. You really are free, I swear I'm not lying." He says again.
"I don't believe you!" I yell out once he tries to take my hand again, yanking it free from his hold.
I rock myself back and forth faster, scared to open my eyes.
This is some sick trap played out by King Darius, I know it. Some crazy sick game that I'm going to fall for but then, he'd jump out from nowhere and mock me.
Never.
I'm never going to fall for it, not again. I want to stay in my cell where it's safer.
He tries to convince me again but I close my ears. I don't want to listen to his lies any more. I don't want any more torture.
"I promise I won't try to run away again..." I sob silently. "So please, leave me alone."
He grabs my shoulder, and I struggle against his hold but his strength is high above mine and he easily overpowers me.
"Freya!" He yells in my face.
I kick him back, trying to crawl away but he grabs onto my ankle, dragging me back to him.
"Freya, calm down."
"No!"
He grabs me by pining my arms behind me tightly in a way it's almost impossible to move away from him.
Tears pour down my eyes as my anxiety peaks.
"Please, I don't want to go." I plead again, softer.
"Listen, Freya... I swear to you, you're safe. No harm will come to you anymore. I won't let anyone hurt you."
"That's a lie." I mumble.
"I promise... you're free." He says softly.
He solely lets me go finally, stepping away and showing me both his palms in surrender.
I clutch onto my throbbing wrist, looking at him, still in full doubt.
I couldn't be certain he wouldn't pull some trick on me again, lock me up in a different cell. After all, the mating ceremony hadn't already happened...
Unless it did and no one told me.
My heart hurts suddenly.
"I swear to you, Freya, you're free. Please, let me help you out." He pleads now, a look of sadness in his eyes.
He doesn't look like he's lying. My reluctance slowly crumbles watching him closely, but the doubt still remains present.
"I'm sorry, I don't know what came over me." I force a smile, tucking my hair behind my ears, still a bit shaky. "Just the sudden news, it's hard to believe."
"I know. King Darius called in few minutes ago and said you're free to go."
I sniffle a bit, rubbing off another stray tears running down my eyes.
I had been waiting for this day for countless moments in my dull gloomy cell, hearing it now seemed like a dream.
"Will you let me escort you out?" He says, stretching out his hand and asking more politely than before.
I stare at the outstretched hand, still frightened and reluctant.
There was still the possibility of this being a trap but I eing stuck should just risk it, right? It's better than here till my spirit is finally broken.
I slowly reach out and grab onto his arm, nodding slowly.
He smiles, helping me to my feet with ease. I imagine it should be easier to lift me from my feet, seeing as
I'm almost bone at this point.
"You ready?" He asks again gently, which I am grateful for.
I nod again and lean into him as we slowly step out of the cell. My heart begins racing so fast, threatening to pulse out of my ribcage.
This is really happening.
We walk a bit more, very slowly because of me. I can't move faster than the pace we are in, so he lifts me from my feet carrying me bridal style.
At first, I'm startled by the sudden movement, uncontrollable anxiety taking over again.
But his warm smile comforts me again, letting me know I'm safe.
I take in deep breaths to calm myself as we move.
We reach the pure white hall ways again, and I close my eyes shut, hiding my face into the corner of his collar as the memory flash from my attempted escape fills my mind.
The blood and the beatings with countless bodies standing above me with whips.
It has me trembling.
I close my eyes till he taps me, letting me know we've passed it all.
And when I open them again, we're in an elevator I've never seen before, taking us up.
"I'm really getting out, aren't I?" "Yeah." He assures me again.
I look away again, clutching tightly to him while we move.
I hate how fragile I feel right now, far from the proud girl I had been on the first day of school, that girl feels so distant from the me that is present.
I do not know if I will ever see her again. The door dings and slides open as he steps out. Once he does, he drops me onto my feet while I still lean on him for stability. I'm still too weak to stand on my own.
For the first time, I see windows with actual nature's light shining through. My heart begins pulsing again with excitement.
I stretch my hands, moving towards it to feel the sun on my skin like before and almost stumble from my noodle legs before Lucas grabs me by the waist, catching me.
"Sorry." I mumble.
"It's fine." His smile remains, never falling from his lips.
I'm grateful for that.
I feel more confident and safe to offer a smile back to him, which makes him seem more pleased.
I watch him till his eyes turn somewhere else, and freezes like ice.
An overwhelming warmth suddenly gushes into me.
For the first time in a while since the wolf's bane poisoning had began, I feel my wolf inside me. It's way more fainter than usual, but I feel her scratching against my walls desperately.
This feeling is too familiar and unbelievable. I turn towards the direction of Lucas' eyes and see him for the first time in a god awful long time...
Silas.
His silver eyes staring back at me, as bright and vibrant as ever.
His breathtaking smile and flawless midnight black hair tousled perfectly.
He looks better than the last time we had seen, even more beautiful.
"Silas..." I mutter beneath my shaky breath. Suddenly, it's so hard to breathe and I feel so dizzy.
This all still feels like a really good dream. "Freya..." He says. Fuck, even his voice sounds so good. I lean away from Lucas, taking slow steps towards him as fast as I can. And he rushes to me so quickly I don't know when he has me wrapped around his arms. "Fuck... Freya." He squeezes me against his chest.
The nostalgic warmth of his skin engulfs me in a cocoon of comfort instantly. I burst into tears just like that, wailing out like a little child shamelessly.
He trembles around me.
"I'm so sorry, Freya." He begs, breaking apart in front of me. "I'm so fucking sorry."
