You dropped your fork on your plate as your phone vibrated in the pocket of your sweats that you had on.
You couldn't help the grin that tugged at your lips upon finding out that it was a text from Taylor.
"How's your day going, my love? I was thinking we could get breakfast in the morning. Does that sound fun?"
You quickly texted her back. You tried to dodge the first question because your day hasn't been all that great and you didn't want to tell her because you weren't ready to fully open up about it to her yet.
But you happily answered that you'd love to get breakfast together and you were looking forward to it.
Your father cleared his throat and you quickly looked up at him, finding that he was staring at you with curious eyes. You slid your phone back into your pocket without another word.
You're an adult but honestly, most times you don't feel like one.
Due to different circumstances, you're still living at home with your parents.
You recently lost your job and you felt bummed about it because you didn't have enough money saved up to get out on your own just yet because you have your own bills to pay.
Taylor has been taking care of you and has let you stay with her a few nights here and there. She's about ready to ask you to move in with her, although she hasn't told you that just yet.
And since you're an adult, you know shouldn't worry over your dad or your mom ever finding out about your relationship with Taylor.
But they often push their religious beliefs on you. They don't care about anything else but that and if they ever found out about you ever not living exactly how they think you should, they'd probably disown you.
As harsh as they can be and as much as you hate having to pretend to be someone you're not and hide your relationship from them, you do it because you're scared of losing them because you love them.
"Y/N," your father smiled. "You know, we ran into one of our old neighbors recently!"
He started going on and on about your pre-teen years where you lived in a different place than you do now.
He brought up one of the boys you used to be close with that just so happened to be that neighbor's son and your father began to talk about how wonderful this guy was and how he'd be perfect for you.
"Oh, thanks, dad. But no thanks."
Your parents both dropped their forks and you could feel their eyes on you before you even looked at them.
"He'd be so perfect for you, y/n."
"He wouldn't." You said, forcing a smile. "I'm not interested."
"I think you should give him a chance. He's the kind of person you need in your life."
"I already have the perfect one for me. But thanks though."
In that moment, you were fed up with him constantly talking about how perfect this guy you barely even remember would be perfect for you now that you didn't even realize those words were falling from your lips.
"Oh?" Your mother said as a smile tugged at her lips. "I want to meet him."
"Yeah, he's got to be a good guy. You deserve the best. As long as he lives the way we live, we'll approve."
Annoyed even more so of them assuming things now, you let it all slip from your lips.
"I don't have a boyfriend, okay? I have a girlfriend!"
They froze and for a second, you did too.
That was until their harsh words and harsh tones brought you back.
"Girlfriend?" Your father asked in disbelief. "Is this some kind of joke? Because it's not funny, y/n."
"It's not funny because it's not a joke, dad. I'm serious. If you don't believe me," you paused and pulled your phone out of your pocket before you unlocked it and opened your photos, showing them the recent photo that you and Taylor took just last night, curled up in her bed as you shared a sweet kiss during what was an incredibly boring movie.
"Her name is Tay-"
"We don't care." Your mother said, clenching her teeth. "That is not okay, y/n! It's filth. You know that!"
"It's me, mom! It's who I am! I like girls, okay? That's who I am..."
They stared at each other and shook their heads in disappointment before looking back at you.
"Get out of this house." Your father said. "You are never welcome in here again. We don't tolerate or support this behavior. We will have no part in it."
"Okay. Let me get my things."
"No!" He yelled, banging his fists on the table. "Get out! Right now!" He yelled at the top of his lungs.
"Mom?" You whimpered as you looked at her, wondering if maybe, just maybe, she'd stand up for you.
But she was just like him.
"You know how much this disgusts us. We are so disappointed in you. We want nothing to do with you anymore. Now get out of here!"
You ran out of the house, grabbing one of Taylor's hoodies that you left on the sofa before you ran out the door.
You only made it a block away before you sat on the sidewalk and let your tears fall as you pulled your knees to your chest.
You sobbed hard. It was stormy and dark since it was nearing nine o'clock. You hate the darkness and storms and you just wanted to go home and crawl into bed.
But that's not your home anymore.
And part of you knows it never really was.
You walked around endlessly for a few hours. You didn't know what to do or where to go. You just kept walking as your mind wandered.
That was until you decided you couldn't take anymore.
Knowing you couldn't go back home, not that you wanted to anyway, you pulled your phone out of your pocket and called the one person you know you can always turn to and count on.
Taylor.
She answered on the second ring and you could sense the happiness in her voice. You could picture that sweet, beautiful smile on her face. It almost brought tears into your eyes just thinking about it.
"Hi, darling! It's two in the morning. What are you doing awake?"
"Tay," You whimpered. "Are you busy?"
"Just writing a few songs. Never too busy for my girl though." She chuckled. "What's wrong, baby?"
"I-I need help." You mumbled.
"Are you okay, my love?"
"No." You whimpered again. "I got frustrated with my parents tonight and I came out to them and they basically disowned me. I can't go home, Tay. It's stormy and I'm cold and I don't know what to do."
"It's okay, baby girl. Everything is going to be okay. Tell me where you're at and I'm going to come and get you."
Looking around, you saw the street signs and told them what they were.
"Okay, baby. I know you're exactly where you are. Just sit on the sidewalk and I'll be there in no time."
"Okay. I love you."
"I love you so much." She said. "Don't worry, baby. I'm on my way right now, I promise."
"Okay." You whispered and ended the call before sitting down and pulling your knees to your chest.
It was about twenty minutes later when a car pulled up to the curb. Taylor got out and ran to you.
"Baby, I'm here." She said as you got up and threw your arms around her. "It's okay. Take a deep breath. Everything's okay now. You're safe."
You nodded and shivered in her warm arms.
Despite being wet from the rain, Taylor didn't let you go until you were ready.
She helped you into the passenger seat of the car and grabbed one of her hoodies for you to change into as well as a blanket to keep you warm and mostly dry, aside from your pants and your socks.
She had you take your shoes off, throwing them into the backseat with your shirt.
With a kiss to your head, she got into the driver's seat after closing the door.
She didn't go straight home. Instead, she stopped off at your favorite twenty-four restaurant and got you some food to eat.
Hungry, you ate it all quickly, although you let her have a few bites, which made her giggle happily.
She pulled into the driveway of her home a little while later. She helped you out of the car and carried you inside.
She got you out of your clothes and into a warm bath. She sat by the tub and helped you wash up and let you relax a little, knowing you must be so scared and worried about what will happen from this point forward now that you're unwanted at your home.
"Hey," she whispered and kissed your shoulder. "This is your home now."
Your eyes lit up.
"Seriously?"
"Seriously, baby." She smiled and tucked a lock of hair behind your ear.
"Thank you."
"No need to thank me, my love. You're my girl and I love you to pieces. I'd do anything for you. I'm not going to let you stay on the street or tell you that you can only stay for so long. IThis is our home now."
You pecked her lips and she smiled brightly at you when you pulled away.
You got out of the bath a few minutes later. She dried you off and let you wear one of her hoodie's before you walked out of the bathroom and got into bed, hand in hand.
You laid down and she turned on your favorite movie, although she kept the volume low so you could talk.
"Tell me what happened." She whispered as she brushed her fingers through your damp hair.
"They kept talking about this neighbor's son who's back in town and would be so perfect for me. Told me how good he'd be for me. I told them I wasn't interested. They just kept going on and on and I just snapped."
She nodded and she kept her eyes locked with yours.
"I showed them the photo of us and they just flipped out on me. Told me that I'm never welcome there again."
She caught the tears streaming down your face and wiped them away.
"I just want them to love me, Tay. Why is that so much to ask for?"
"It isn't, y/n. You shouldn't have to feel that way. They're your parents, they're supposed to love you."
You whimpered as she stroked your cheek and shushed you softly.
"I know how they are... I should've known. But I guess I hoped that they'd accept me. I know it was just wishful thinking but I just loved them. I thought they loved me."
She pulled you closer, gently pushed your head onto her chest.
"I know it hurts." She whispered. "But everything's going to be okay. My parents love you, my brother loves you, my friends love you, and you know that I love you very much."
"I love you too."
"It's you and me against the world. We're going to make it through this. You've got me to lean on."
You sniffled and kissed her cheek before putting your head back on her chest.
The time was after four am now and you were completely exhausted.
You fell asleep quickly and Taylor didn't let you go. She made sure you were tucked in so you were warm and cozy and she kissed your head after turning the lamp off before holding you close again.
"I love you so very much." She said as she watched you sleep. "I'm never going to let anything happen to you. I've got you, darling; always."
