Taylor quickly turned her head to look over at the door as soon as she heard the knock coming from the other side of it.
"One second!" She said as she finished the final touches of her makeup before she walked to the door.
She turned the knob and opened the door just a crack, just enough to peek out of it and see who was standing there.
To her surprise, it was you, and her heart skipped a beat when she saw your face.
"Y/N!" She said ecstatically and opened the door all the way. "come in, come in!"
You entered the room and she closed the door behind you. When it was closed, she turned to face you and stared at you with those big beautiful blue eyes.
She looked stunning. You couldn't help the way your jaw dropped over seeing her standing there in that beautiful white dress. The sight made her giggle a little and she turned around, doing a little spin, and you beamed at the sight.
"You look so pretty."
"Thank you." She said. "I'm so happy you're here! You said you didn't know if you'd be able to make it because of work and stuff."
"Yeah, well, things changed and I was able to get out of everything. It's your special day. I wanted to be here for you."
You wondered if she could tell that you were lying.
You didn't have anything holding you back from being here tonight except your doubts and heartache.
You didn't think you'd be able to handle this night.
Seeing the woman that you're in love with marrying someone else was going to be so difficult and you knew it would be the greatest heartbreak you've ever had before.
But she's also your best friend and you don't know if you could live with yourself knowing you weren't there on her special day.
Because although you're head over heels in love with her and you can't stand the woman she's marrying, you think you can be strong enough to support her as your friend and try to put your feelings aside for tonight.
"Are you sure?" She asked, pulling you out of your thoughts.
"What do you mean?"
"That you had work stuff."
"Oh. That. Uh, yeah, I mean-"
"Y/N," she spoke softly, stepping closer to you. "I know you better than you know yourself. I know you're lying. Is there another reason?"
She was standing right in front of you now; so close you could touch her, you could kiss her.
For a moment, you thought about getting it all off of your chest. Maybe she felt the same.
Maybe if you told her the truth and confessed your feelings, it wouldn't be as bad as you fear it will.
But then you thought about this day. How excited she seems to be to marry this woman she loves. How much she went through to plan all of this.
You couldn't do it.
"I'm sure, Taylor." You said through the lump in your throat, hoping she couldn't see the tears in your eyes. "You look so beautiful. She's a lucky lady."
"Yeah. Thanks."
She sounded almost... disappointed.
But you brushed it off thinking it was nothing.
"I should go take a seat if that's alright."
"Yeah, of course. Go on ahead." She said, forcing a smile.
Just as you felt, she was hoping you couldn't see the tears in her eyes as you left the room.
She was having doubts and second thoughts.
She wanted this though... right?
Didn't she?
She loves the woman she's marrying. They've been together for years.
While she's always been in love with you, she didn't know if you felt the same, and neither of you ever spoke on it.
She could do this.
She was going to be happy.
A few minutes later, her dad knocked on the door and she hugged him tight before they linked arms.
"Are you ready for this?"
"Yeah." She said and he sighed as they made their way down the hall, to the doors.
"You don't seem like this is what you really want. Or, maybe it is. Maybe you pictured this day for a while. But, maybe, just maybe, the woman at the altar isn't the one you've dreamt of being given away to. Right?"
Taylor felt a lump in her throat over her father's words. They exchanged a look and she knew he knew that's exactly how she felt. She didn't have to say it, he just knew.
But she didn't argue with him when they reached the altar and he let her go. She just forced a smile to the woman in front of her; her soon-to-be wife.
Her dad sat down beside you and he gently elbowed you before quietly clearing his throat.
"I know you know that this isn't meant to be. Taylor and this girl. If you have regrets about not speaking up to Taylor, who I know feels the same way you do, you better speak before it's too late." He said and you looked away from his eyes and down to your lap.
You watched them take each other's hands and Taylor was smiling at her fiancee, just not the way she would be smiling if she was genuinely excited about this moment and the future ahead with this woman she says she loves.
"Before we begin, if anyone has any objections to this marriage, speak now or forever hold your peace." The preacher said and you took the chance, standing on your feet.
People gasped, staring at you as if they couldn't believe what was happening, as if they were disgusted by you doing so.
"Stop the wedding." You said and people began to talk amongst themselves.
But you didn't care.
You couldn't hear them. You couldn't care less about what they were saying.
All you cared about was Taylor, who was staring at you with a big smile.
"Taylor, I lied. Back there, in the dressing room, I lied to you. There was no work thing, I just couldn't come and see you marry someone that isn't me when I'm in love with you."
Her bride stood there in shock, looking between you and Taylor in horror.
"I know you feel the same. Your dad told me."
She chuckled and looked at Scott, who was just nodding in agreement with everything you said.
"Well, too bad, y/n! You missed your chance." Her soon-to-be wife said.
"No, she didn't," Taylor spoke a second later, making everyone even more shocked. "No, I don't want this. Not with you."
"Taylor, what are you talking about?"
"Look," Taylor sighed as she put her hands on her fiancee's shoulders. "I'm sorry but I'm not in love with you. Not like I am with y/n. She's the one I see myself with in the future. She's the one I love."
The woman scoffed and threw her ring on the ground.
"I didn't want to hurt your feelings but none of this is what I want. I'm sorry."
Taylor walked off the altar and to you. Taking your hand, you walked out of the room and to her dressing room, where she closed the door.
"It feels like I'm dreaming." You said and Taylor laughed before cupping your cheeks.
"You're not. I promise."
"I'm sorry that I lied to you earlier. I just didn't know if you loved me too and I didn't want to take a chance on ruining your special day and, even worse, our friendship."
"Y/N, this day isn't special whatsoever to me. Everything you see, the decorations, everyone out there aside from my family, was all her. She had to have everything her way and only her way and I hated it. But I went with it because I didn't think you felt the same way and I didn't know what else to do." She explained as she brushed her thumbs along your cheeks.
"I'm in love with you, Tay."
She grinned from ear to ear and leaned in to give you a sweet kiss.
"I'm in love with you too." She said against your lips.
"I should've said that sooner."
She laughed again, the sound making your heart flutter.
"Me too."
She put her forehead on yours before brushing her nose against yours.
"Let me change and then we'll go back to your place and order some food. Sound good?"
"Sounds perfect." You smiled and let her go so she could change back into her other clothes while you closed your eyes and thanked your lucky stars that you took the chance to speak now, knowing it's the best thing you've ever done.
