The last thing I expected to be in the Principal's office was Rya McCoy sitting anxiously in the chair opposite her desk. Principal Cunningham was a woman with a constant stick up her ass, I mean, the woman was a bitch and usually I respected people for being a bitch, but she was an annoying bitch and, god, sometimes I wanted to claw my ears off due to her monotoned, irritating squark of a voice.
"Sienna." She vaguely acknowledged my entrance. "Sit."
I didn't try to argue because I didn't know my exact reasoning for being here plus I didn't want the make the situation worse than it hypothetically already was. I took my seat next to Rya who looked like she was about to throw up. She wasn't used to being in the Principal's office for anything other than getting praise.
"I am sure you are both aware of the papers that went around school of a certain diary." Principal Cunningham began.
Rya and I exchanged looks. Shit.
"And I will have you know that I got a rather upset phone call from Mr Kingston about the extreme and rather disgusting violation of his daughter."
Disgusting? Did she not read what was written in the diary? Probably not because Leah was such an innocent star in her eyes, and I was a raging demon. But Rya, though? She would have to believe Rya.
"And I have a very good reason to believe that you two were behind this shanagan."
"And what makes you think that?" I crossed my arms and huffed. We were in school when no one was around. At this point, Principal Cunningham was pointing fingers.
Principal Cunningham's expression became one of much smugness and she turned her computer around. "I was hoping you would say that. You see, Vice Principal Saxon suggested we fit CCTV cameras around the halls to catch any fiasco's happening and I'm so glad he did because then we wouldn't have been able to catch this wonderful sight."
My jaw almost dropped to the floor as a video of Rya and I played on the screen, both of us with stacks of papers in hands, throwing photocopies of Leah's diary around like flower girls throwing rose petals at a wedding.
Well, this wasn't good.
Yeah, no shit.
"Do you have CCTV cameras everywhere, Principal Cunningham? Even in storage closets and locker rooms for your own personal... pleasure?" I couldn't help but smile sardonically at her. Principal Cunningham didn't strike me as the creepy kind, but she definitely favoured the boys' Football Team. Adam had gotten into tonnes of fights and she only let him off with a warning.
"I would be quiet if I were you, Sienna, before I decide to up your punishment." She snapped back and turned to Rya. "And Miss McCoy." I felt Rya shrink in her seat. "I expected so much better from you. You can certainly count your chance of becoming Valedictorian off the list –"
"Rya didn't do it!" I exclaimed. No. I was going to go down but I wasn't taking Rya with me. She had worked too hard for too many years for Principal Cunningham to take her chance of becoming Valedictorian away because of this stupid issue with Leah.
"Sienna, it is very evident that –"
"I forced Rya to do it!" I quickly thought of something. Principal Cunningham raised a brow and Rya shot her head to look at me in shock. "I-I thought that Rya doing it with me would decrease my chances of retribution because she's the golden girl of the school."
"Sienna, you don't –"
"I told her that if she didn't help me, I would spread a rumour that she had sex in the boys' locker room." I hastily cut her off.
The look on Principal Cunningham's face was one of complete and utter dismay. "She helped me purely out of blackmail."
Principal Cunningham looked between us before her eyes settled on Rya. "Is this true, Miss McCoy?"
"I-I –" I kicked her leg to tell her to follow along. "Y-Yes, Principal Cunningham... it is." She sheepishly looked down at her lap. I knew she hated lying but she had to do it.
Principal Cunningham clicked her tongue and tapped her foot on the floor. "I see." She drawled out. "Miss McCoy, you can leave. I am sorry for the inconvenience." She told Rya and she instinctively got off her chair. I gave her a look to let her know it was okay and that she could leave. I knew I was going to get a yelling from her as soon as I left the room, but it was better than her losing her chance at Valedictorian.
When she was gone and the door shut and Principal Cunningham turned all her attention to me, the look on her face being one to kill. "In all my years of being Principal, I have never seen such a horrendous act of bullying –"
"Bullying? Oh please!" I cut in. If anything, Leah was the bully.
"– you have not only embarrassed poor Miss Kingston but also the school's entire reputation with what you did, and to blackmail another student to help you?! I would say I expected better from you, Sienna, but I really can't. You have been a nightmare ever since you started –"
"– you're welcome –"
"And so... your punishment." Two weeks' detention here I come! "Fortunately for you, both of Leah's parents work at the local hospital, and they have so graciously decided to allowed you to make it up to them by working community service in the hospital –"
"Excuse me?!" my eyes widened, and I leaned forward to make sure I heard her correctly. "Community service? Isn't that for people who break the law? Who the hell do you think I am?!" I protested, but Principal Cunningham shrugged with a smug smile.
"It will certainly look better than two weeks' suspension on your college application which I hear is going swimmingly by the way." Who told her about – Andy, you little shit.
"That's none of your business." I grumbled and slumped back in my chair.
"It may not be." Principal Cunningham crossed her arms. "But I would like to think you are taking this opportunity to better yourself."
Better myself. Gee, what are we? In church? I don't think so.
I'd like to say I had a good comeback to her comment or at least put up a fight, but I didn't. In a way, I was glad I didn't. Principal Cunningham wouldn't think twice to call my parents what I did and I couldn't have them finding out about that. Or anything, for that matter.
I walked out of the Principal's office after getting dismissed to only find Rya anxiously waiting by the door, nibbling on her lip.
"What happened?!" she whisper-shouted, grabbing my arm and dragging me out into the halls. "I didn't ask you to do that, Sienna. You shouldn't have done that! Oh god, what did she –"
"It's fine." I brace my hands on her shoulders. "I didn't even get suspended."
Rya blinked three times, "What?"
"Urgh. Instead, she gave me stupid community service at the hospital." Rya didn't seem to understand. "Leah's parents work there."
"Community service? What are you? A prisoner?"
"That's what I said!" I huffed. "At least it's better than suspension."
"And'll look better on your college application." Rya pointed out. Urgh, college applications. I was so screwed with that.
"Don't remind me." I muttered. My eyes flickered around the halls. "Where is everyone anyways?" no one was around, and the halls echoed with an eerie silence.
"I don't know, they've probably all gone home considering we missed last period." Just great. I was trying to get better at school and Principal Cunningham saw it no better than to drag me out of lessons to give me a good 7th Grade scolding.
The echoing of footsteps came our way and Rya and I turned around to face the school's entrance , where none other than Adam stood before us.
"Just great." I mumbled under my breath. "The jig is up, Adam." I raised my hands sarcastically. "I got caught. Happy now?"
Adam didn't look pleased but not by the fact I got caught and punished, there was another reason. He narrowed his eyes at Rya and I, a tick in his jaw. Then he pulled something out of his bag. Leah's diary.
"How did you get that?" Rya asked.
"You left it on one of the tables after one of your study session. Leah luckily found it no thanks to either of you." He glared at me.
"Well, whoop-dee-doo! Now you can see how much of a creep she is!" I threw my already raised hands in the air.
"Leah is not a creep. If anything, you two are! You stole her diary and read some of her deepest secrets, who the fuck does that?!"
"Someone who's trying to expose the truth!" I exclaimed. What happened next, I didn't expect. Adam tipped his head back and laughed. Laughed?! He was laughing at me. What the hell?!
"Maybe you two should have been a little more observant with what exactly was in Leah's diary." He chuckled lowly, flipping the diary to one of the pages I recognised. The one where Leah was talking about becoming Mrs Leah Reeves.
"Look at the date." He commanded. I rolled my eyes and looked to the right corner where it read –
"Wait a minute." Rya whispered. "This says it was written..."
"Six years ago." Adam answered for us. "Leah wrote this six years ago. She wrote all of the things you posted out six years ago."
Six years ago? That means she was around eleven when she did that. Eleven?! This wasn't good.
"So what if she was eleven? It's still creepy!" I protested.
"She was a child!" Adam argued.
"Did you not see the thing about the 'love potion'?! That's messed up either way!"
"She was eleven!" Adam emphasised. "Rya used to think she was destined to marry Draco Malfoy at eleven!"
"That's not – okay so, that's kind of true but..." Rya's cheeks burst bright pink as she pointed a finger at Adam. "Sienna used to do those weird online mermaid potions at eleven so, ha! I'm not the only weird one!"
"Rya!" I hissed and punched her side. "What the hell is wrong with –"
"See!" Adam exclaimed. "Everyone was doing weird things at eleven! And it's not like I didn't know about it."
I pulled back a littler and narrowed my eyes at him, "What d'you mean by that?" I asked slowly.
Adam let out a deep sigh and ran a hand through his hair. "I knew about Leah's crush on me. I've known about it since the 4th Grade."
"You have known that Leah's had a crush on you since the 4th Grade?" I repeated slowly, making sure I heard everything correctly before I blew up.
Adam nodded with a shrug. "Yeah."
I took in a deep breath before I exclaimed, "And you didn't fucking tell me?!" even Rya pulled back at my sudden outburst.
"What does it matter –"
"I was your girlfriend, you idiot! You've known that this girl has had a huge fucking crush on you since forever and you don't think 'oh hey, I'm sure my girlfriend should know about something like this' but noooo! Instead, you keep it as your fun, little secret!"
"You're being overdramatic again, Sienna –"
"Don't you dare fucking tell me I'm being 'overdramatic', you arrogant prick!" I snapped. "Urgh, this is fucking bullshit!" I took a few steps back and ran a hand through my hair.
"No, what's fucking bullshit is you posting out pages of Leah's diary from when she was eleven!" Adam protested, snatching the diary away and stuffing it back into his bag. "Now stay the fuck away from my girlfriend."
I stopped dead.
"Girlfriend?" I whispered. "Leah... she... vanilla stick's your girlfriend?" girlfriend. She's his girlfriend. Adam was a prick, a huge fucking prick but I still cared. I still wanted to be his girlfriend. That spot was reserved for me and only me and, for some utterly stupid reason, I still wanted it.
"Yeah, now stay the fuck away from her and me for the matter." He hissed and shot death glares at Rya and I before turning on his heel and stalking away with the classic 'bad boy' walk he always donned.
I couldn't believe what had just happened. In fact, I stayed frozen in place and watch Adam slam the doors behind him. It wasn't until Rya gentle touched my shoulder and asked, "Are you okay?" I snapped out of it and turned to her.
"This is unbelievable."
Rya cringed a little and looked down. "We really messed up, Sienna. Like big time."
"No." I protested. "Even if those creepy diary entries were written years ago, that doesn't deny the fact that Leah is still an evil, little bitch."
"Sienna –"
"No! I'm just not excepting it." Was Rya forgetting the fact that Leah spread a rumour about her having herpes? About Taylor and I sleeping together? I sure wasn't, and I was still going to prove how much of a bitch Leah Kingston really was!
