Mandy found herself constantly day dreaming about a life with Leon . She knew it was never really possible . He had a wife . And a son . And he was her teacher .
But she couldn't help but think ,what if they ran away together? To a new city . No a new country. Nobody would know who they were . They could change their names . And start a new life .
They'd live in a large house . With floor to ceiling windows. The house would smell like vanilla and fresh linen. They'd have many kids . All named after their favourite tv show characters. And they'd travel and enjoy life . Every night she'd lay in his arms happy ,safe and secure . If only ...
She grabbed another tissue blowing her nose . Her and Miles had caught the flu . She had been off of school for a whole week . She had felt drained and tired .
She was hoping she'd feel better soon .
She reached for her phone .
Moretti had text her .
Moretti:
Where have you been all week ??
Mandy: flu
Moretti: You okay ??
Mandy : no it's awful
Moretti: Get well soon
Mandy: ty
Moretti : I miss you.
She sighed putting the phone away . She wasn't going to reply . A lot had happened since their last interaction . When she had said she loved him he freaked out . He said they shouldn't talk anymore .And Mandy was besides herself .
Miles had a trip coming up that was costly . But Mandy's mum wasn't able to provide and she felt as though she couldn't go to her father . She was overwhelmed and had started crying in one of his lessons .
Moretti thought it was because he had ended things with her . When she told him what was really wrong he suggested she baby sit for them for some money . So every Wednesday,Friday and Saturday she baby sat 5 year old Raphael.
She liked him . He was well behaved and very advanced for his age . Morettis wife , Rita was very different to what she expected her to be . She was tall and slender with jet black hair . She forever had red lipstick smeared on her lips and eyeliner smudged on her eyes . She had these piercing blue eyes . Her body was covered in tattoos and she had a cigarette in her hand everytime Mandy saw her . Mandy was convinced it was a permanent accessory.
Rita was sexy. Interesting. Different. She was of Lithuanian heritage and had an accent to highlight that . Mandy was immensely jealous. No wonder Moretti broke it off with her . She was a short , awkward pubescent child . So she dyed her hair . And tried to wear revealing clothes . And had started wearing red lipstick . Leon caught on immediately and told her to cut it out. He wasn't nice in the way he said it too. That was the first time Mandy saw how cruel he could be .
So in a way she was glad she caught the flu. It gave her time away . To recover from the embarrassment. She was angry at him and yet couldn't stop thinking about him. The doorbell interrupted her thoughts .
She rolled over ignoring it . It rang again . Then someone knocked on the door . Her phone pinged .
Eryk: I know you hear the door
Mandy: go away
Eryk : no
Mandy : I'm ill
Eryk : idc, let me up . i miss you man
She smiled and proceeded downstairs . She opened the door to the tall blonde boy .
"Hey you ." He says .
She wrinkles her nose up .
"You're annoying ."
"I love you too . Nice pyjamas." He snorted .
She shoved him rolling her eyes .
They climbed upstairs .
Mandy dived straight into the bed sheets Eryk following quickly.
"How you been ?" He asked .
She sniffed .
"It's been awful."
"You probably have that covid thing ."
"Please ." She scoffed .
Towards the end of December this virus has been circling around . Nobody thought it was serious though .
"How has life been without me ? Boring I bet ." Mandy quips.
"Nah not even . I just don't have anyone to walk with on the mornings . I chill with Anissa more time . We went to a BLM protest yesterday."
"Really ? Wow. How was it ?"
"It was powerful . The turn out was mad . It felt good you know ... all of us joining together for one main goal . It felt good to do my part ."
"I wish I could've been there."
"There'll be more . It's not a one time thing . It's not a trend you feel me . It's people's lives ."
"No honestly ." Mandy replies .
Eryk sighs.
"The worlds just fucked . Fucked !"
"It is . This year has been crazy ."
"Crazy . You just need to stay positive you feel me . How's tings with your dad ?"
"I spoke to him on the phone . It felt good . He said he'd come to see us soon."
"Ah I'm glad man . I just wanna see you happy Mandy ."

"I'm glad I met you Eryk ."
Eryk grinned sheepishly tucking a piece of Mandy's hair behind her ear.
She breathed out slowly . They shared eye contact for a couple of seconds. Eryk leaned in .
"No. Eryk. You can't ."
"What ? You got a man or sumn?" He laughs .
"No. I just ..."
"You like someone else ? It's cool Mandy ."
He lays back staring at the ceiling.
"You've made it awkward."
"It's not awkward blud . Just pretend it never happened ." Eryk says grabbing his phone .
"Well... you wanna play uno ?"
"Yeah man . Let's get Miles to play too."
