Mandy watched as the hands of the clock moved slowly . The last minutes of the day always dragged on. She looked up as Moretti pointed to something on the board . She wasn't interested.
She had text him yesterday letting him know she couldn't baby sit Raphael today like she normally did on Fridays . He made a huge song and dance about it assuming it was because she was still upset with him because of the incident weeks ago .
"Can he actually just shut up now . It's basically three o'clock ." Anissa mutters .
"Right ." Mandy replies huffing.
"Are you coming straight to mines or going home first ?"
"I'm gonna come to yours straight away ." Mandy replied quickly .
The bell rang . Everyone packed their stuff away the classroom full of the Friday buzz . There was talks of parties ,birthday meals, cinemas and bowling .
Mandy stuffed her pencil case in her handbag and zipped it up .
She watched as Anissa was deep in conversation with Deija. She lingered behind . She loved Anissa but didn't like her friends .
Moretti pulled her by her chin.
"Can I talk to you ?"
Mandys eyes widened in alarm peering out of the classroom .
"Someone could've seen that !" She hissed .
"We're good . You've been avoiding me Mandy ."
"So?" She pursed her lips .
Anger rippled through Moretti's facial expression.
"Drop the attitude. I don't know what's gotten into you . Ever since you started hanging around with that Anissa girl you've become a bi-" he breathed out stopping himself from finishing the sentence .
"I've become a what !? Go on finish what you was gonna say Leon!" Mandy shouts .
"A bitch ! You're rude . Lazy now . Walking around with ya skirt all short and-"
"Wow !" Mandy interrupts .
"I cannot believe you right now . I don't have to listen to this bull shit !" She snaps indignantly. She proceeds to storm away .
Moretti grabs her arm spinning her to face him . He grips her neck pushing her up against the wall .
"Don't walk away from me when I'm talking to you ." He says .
"Fuck. You." She sneers looking up into his eyes .
He smirks .
"You're so beautiful when you're mad at me ." He says lowly . He leans in and the classroom door bursts open .
They jump apart .
"Mandy ! What the hell !? You're taking the piss. We missed two buses ." Anissa says .
"Sorry . I'm -I'm coming ." Mandy stutters red faced and fluttered .
"You alright Anissa ?" Moretti asks playing with the button on his sleeve .
"Yeah." She says squinting .
"Bye now girls ." He says .
Anissa hooks arms with Mandy .
"It looked like he was gonna kiss you when I walked in swear !" Anissa says .
Mandy laughs loudly . Maybe too loudly . She curses herself inwardly .
"Oh shut up Niss. Please."
"Nah if you saw it from my perspective still ." Anissa shrugs brushing it off.
They walk towards the bus stop .
"He was telling me off . I forgot to do the homework."
"Why didn't you tell me ? I would've snapped you the sheet . You could've copied it but like changed the words around ."
"It's okay he extended the deadline for me ."
"Of course he did . You're his bloody favourite. Especially because you baby sit for him."
Mandy rolls her eyes .
They get onto the bus. Mandy shrinks into her seat as Anissa starts an argument with some girls from another high school . She knows it's serious when Anissa switches to patois. Much to Mandy's delight they reach Anissa's road . They get off the bus .
They walk the short distance to Anissa's family home. In the house is her mother , her big brother Aiden and her three sisters . Adele and Amelia who are older than her . Then her baby sister Amina. There's also her Aunty Latoya and her mum Latisha. Last of all is her Grandma Robyn.
Mandy loved Anissa's house . It was always loud thanks to the many tv's in the house , Aminas crying , Aiden playing the drums and Latisha on the phone for work . Dinner was always amazing too . Bright colours and exquisite flavours . They treated Mandy like their very own and she felt welcome and loved instantly .
They entered the house greeting everyone . Mandy took her shoes off and raced after Anissa to her bedroom . Her bedroom walls were decorated with album covers . Boxes of trainers were pulled up against the wall . She had her GCSE revision stuff scattered on a desk with her MacBook and it's charger . She had a large bed in the middle with lots of pillows and furry covers .
She grabbed her remote turning on the tv going on Netflix .
They were engrossed in episodes of TVD for a while .
"Mchmt. I really don't like that Elena girl ." Anissa said distastefully.
"Right . Katherine is way better ."
They dug into the snacks on the bed .
A little after 11pm Latisha came into the room . She had on a tight dress and her hair was straightened.
"Hey girls . Just checking on you before I leave ."
"We're good . You look nice !" Mandy said .
Latisha grinned .
"Thank you baby ."
"Ugh don't gass her up." Anissa scoffed .
"You hate to see me shine ." Latisha said .
"You think you're sick because you're going on a date with ya little boyfriend." Anissa replies .
"You're mad because Jamai broke up with you ." Latisha bites back .
"Over something stupid . Just because I cheated . I tried to tell him it's because my dad left ."
Mandy and Latisha laughed .
"Alright I'll leave you lot to it . If you need me text me . Night Mandy Pandy. Night Nissy."
"Night !" Came the synchronised reply .
The girls snuggled in the bed sheets .
"I do miss Jamai to be honest . I just wish I knew how to love properly." Anissa sighs .
"We're still young . We've got time ." Mandy replies .
"Have you ever been in love ?"
"I think I'm in love right now ."
"With who ? Nah don't tell me it's Eryk !" Anissa squeals laughing .
"No. This person . Is mature . And he's beautiful. And kind . And it blows my mind every day why he'd be interested in me . But he is."
Anissa stiffens .
"No. No . No . Please tell me it ain't Mr Moretti !"
Mandy stays silent .
"Mandy ! Mandy what the actual fuck ! He's a teacher. Mandy this ain't right !"
"Anissa ! You can't tell anyone."
"I -I won't . But you can't continue . What ever the fuck is going on . It stops now ."
"It has been . It's over. It was stupid . And wrong ."
"Okay I'm glad you understand. If I find out anything else I'll tell . I'm sorry but I'll have to ."
"I know . I know ." Mandy sniffs .
