The person stood in the shadow, and their face was not visible.
But a voice calling out "Ashford" could be heard.
Celeste was instantly terrified and rushed over, grabbing the person's hand, "Sterling, none of those things are true. Don't believe Zara. It's all fake! I didn't... I didn't do that. No matter what evidence she presents, don't believe her."
"So, should I believe you then?" The person spoke, with a hint of playfulness, a touch of recklessness, and a bit of sarcasm.
Obviously, it was not Sterling's voice!
Celeste suddenly realized and looked up. She saw a young and handsome face. "Oh... Robin?"
Seeing Robin clearly, Celeste's face turned even paler. She wanted to pinch herself, but she couldn't. Robin looked at her with a smile that didn't reach his eyes. "I can't believe it. The esteemed goddess Celeste would actually do something like this. I wonder what my cousin would think if he knew?"
Celeste's body trembled again, her face as white as paper.
"What Zara said... it's all lies!" She tried to refute, but her words lacked conviction.
Robin touched his ear. "Since it's all lies, why don't I go to the place she mentioned and find that person? Maybe I can find the truth."
He quickly recited the address and even the phone number that Zara reported. Celeste: "..." Her embarrassing secret had been exposed, leaving her in extreme awkwardness. Her eyes trembled, and tears were about to come out.
Robin found it boring and sighed before taking off his helmet and walking away.
"Robin!" Celeste grabbed the corner of his clothes. "You won't... tell Sterling, will you?"
"Rest assured, I won't tell my cousin." Robin saw through her thoughts completely. His lips and eyebrows were tinged with mockery. He pulled his clothes away with disgust.
Although Celeste lost face, Robin's promise gave her some relief. As long as Sterling didn't know, it didn't matter who else knew.
"Why don't you show all this evidence to Sterling?" On the way back, Freya couldn't help but ask Zara. She hadn't fallen asleep and had certainly heard every word of their conversation.
Zara smiled faintly, "What's the point of telling him?"
She stumbled upon this information shortly after her bond dissolution.
"Let him know what kind of she-wolf Celeste really is," Freya insisted.
"He already knows, but whether he leaves Celeste or not, it doesn't matter to me anymore." Zara's eyes remained calm. When she talked about Sterling, there was no longer any trace of emotion, as if she were talking about a stranger.
"At least you should retaliate against this scumbag alpha." Freya couldn't let go of what happened to Zara.
Zara pinched her cheek, "Instead of wasting time retaliating against an ex-mate, why not think of ways to earn more money and live comfortably?"
"Good point!" Freya agreed wholeheartedly.
Returning to the starting point, everyone came over to congratulate them. Zara politely responded but didn't show much happiness.
For her, this was a predictable match. Originally, she had come just to accompany Freya, but she also ended up dealing with the scum. It felt like a win.
Everyone was back in high spirits, preparing for their respective races.
After witnessing the two previous matches, they all knew that Zara was unbeatable, and no one dared to challenge her.
As Zara gathered her belongings to head home, Freya was interrupted by a young enthusiastic second-generation entrepreneur who wanted to discuss a pack business project.
Feeling a shadow behind her, Zara thought it was Freya and shook her head, "Get in the car."
But the person didn't move.
Zara found it strange and looked up.
Only then did she see the alpha in a suit and realized it wasn't Freya.
The alpha standing in front of her was tall, with broad shoulders and a slim waist. His appearance was noble, his features deep-set, and his eyes profound.
It was Sterling.
His hands hung by his sides as he looked at her, his face showing little expression, making it hard to guess what he was thinking.
"Why did you mate with me back then?" Sterling didn't continue the conversation but asked instead.
Zara was stunned, looking at him.
In four years of mating, he had never asked this question.
Now, he suddenly seemed interested?
"What are you after?" Sterling's voice came again.
He lowered his head to look at the she-wolf in front of him, half a head shorter. Despite her formidable racing skills and her ability to earn a lot of money solely through racing, she had good looks and was not the type of she-wolf who needed to rely on powerful alphas to live a good life.
"What am I after?"
Sterling's words were like a silver blade, ruthlessly poking at her sore spot. A feeling of humiliation spread from her heart, unraveling her bit by bit, like unraveling a cocoon.
Sharp and painful!
Until now, he still thinks that she mated with him for what reason?
After the pain, what surged up was a feeling of being humiliated, as if screaming wildly.
Suddenly, she was furious!
Furious, she laughed back, "Blind and foolish back then, I just made a mistake. Sorry."
Clearly, it was him who forgot the promise and betrayed her, yet he asked her for what reason.
Truly ridiculous!
If he had asked these questions during their mating, she might have told him everything honestly. But now that they'd dissolved their bond, what's the point?
"Blind and foolish?!" Sterling asked this question sincerely, but he got a quick short response like that?
With these three words, Zara completely denied their entire mating, even him as an alpha!
The more furious he became, the colder his expression and gaze turned. His lips curved into a smile, a smile as freezing as winter ice!
"In my presence, anyone can claim to be wronged, except you. You have no right!" He spoke ruthlessly, "Forgot, didn't you? You wanted to mate with me, I didn't force you!"
Zara stared silently at the alpha in front of her, with his cold face and emotionless words. She didn't know whether to laugh or cry. His words turned all her efforts into humiliation!
Sterling's heart was always as cold as stone whenever he faced her.
Since he was cold, why should she be passionate?
She stood tall, her small face the size of a palm showing a resolute look.
"Sterling, what you just said, anyone could say these words to me, except you... have no right!"
She threw his own words back at him!
Sterling couldn't believe what he was hearing. He saw her gaze, cold and firm!
Clearly, she was the one who made the mistake, but why was she so righteous?
Sterling felt uncomfortable, even regretful for coming to find her.
"You're so shameless!" He scolded, his gaze once again disdainful.
Zara walked over, hiding herself in his shadow. Her eyes were getting brighter. She pursed her lips, revealing deep lip creases, "You asked me earlier for what reason? Considering all the effort I put into you, Sterling, no matter what I wanted from you, you should have given it to me without a second thought. Even if I wanted half of the pack territory, you wouldn't lose out!"
Her words made Sterling's brows furrow, his face changed visibly and looked extremely unpleasant.
His expression was like saying, "I knew it!"
She indeed went after the wealth of the Ashford pack.
"But..." Zara's words took a turn, and her face had a genuine smile. It was as pure as early spring camellia, without any impurities. But unfortunately... it gave people a bad feeling.
"I want nothing! Like I said before, consider it charity, a gift to all of you!"
Having said that, she turned and walked away.
Sterling's face turned even worse after hearing this.
This she-wolf not only forcefully argued but also claimed that she was doing charity!
He reached out and grabbed her arm, pulling her back.
"Let's make things clear today. What significant contribution have you made for me and the Ashford pack?"
"Isn't it charity? Even if it's just a boast, there should be something worth boasting about, shouldn't there?"
A feeling of sudden constriction stuffed into Zara's chest, as if someone had placed a stone there.
It was hard and cold.
It swelled and caused pain in her chest!
She bit her lips tightly to prevent herself from slapping him in the face.
If he wanted to account for things, then just be honest about it.
She smiled calmly, thinking about settling the grievances between the two of them in this way, her heart feeling as if it were being cut with a silver knife,
"Sterling, you seem to have forgotten years ago..."
