She felt as if she had been struck by lightning, unable to stand steadily.
Her legs turned weak, and her mind was in chaos.
If Zara was the Thousand Faced Queen, then she was thoroughly outplayed.
"Let's leave first," Sterling said, interrupting her thoughts. Even after hearing so much shocking gossip, his expression remained calm and composed.
Celeste's legs were like lead, and she struggled to return to the car.
Sterling drove to the hotel and asked her to rest upstairs while he took Williams aside.
"Who is the Thousand Faced Queen?" When they were alone, Sterling looked down, took out a cigarette, and pressed it to his lips, asking.
Though he didn't look at Williams directly, his question made Williams's heart skip a beat. Sterling was sensitive, and he must be suspicious of Zara now.
"Why are you asking like this?" Williams tried to act nonchalant, forcefully suppressing his guilty conscience.
Sterling lit the cigarette with a click, taking a deep drag. His phoenix-like eyes narrowed slightly, leaving others wondering what he was thinking.
"I want to meet her."
Meet... Wasn't that a death sentence?
"When did you become so interested in other she-wolves other than Celeste?" Williams almost choked on his breath and hurriedly laughed it off. "Forget it, she's low-profile, and she won't want to meet you."
Sterling turned his head to look at him, saying nothing, but his gaze was fixed on him.
His deep and penetrating gaze seemed to read through one's heart.
Williams could barely breathe under that gaze.
"How did Zara end up here?" Sterling dropped another bomb.
Williams's legs trembled, but he managed to react quickly, "Did she come? I had no idea."
"Oh, by the way, the Thousand Faced Queen said she wanted to go to the church to pray. I'll go pick her up now." After saying that, he walked out with large strides, pretending to call the Thousand Faced Queen.
Watching Williams's retreating figure, Sterling's thoughts once again returned to Zara.
Why did she come? Was it because of the owner of Starlight Media?
Her relationship with that man was rather peculiar. He had dissolved his bond for her and even established a foundation named after her daughter, Lyra, for several billion dollars. Logically speaking, he should love her deeply. However, after so long, they had never mentioned getting mated. They had never interacted in public either. He even suspected that the so-called owner of Starlight Media might be a fabrication.
But why was he bothering so much about someone irrelevant?
Sterling rubbed his temples to dispel those chaotic thoughts and headed back.
Finally, Zara and Jack got back to the main topic. She presented the project of Genesis Group.
"I know you don't like doing business with foreign entrepreneurs, but this project is exceptional," Zara said with sincerity.
She wasn't just flattering; she had carefully reviewed the proposal and genuinely thought it was excellent.
"If this project takes off, it will be extremely beneficial for both you and Genesis Group. It's a groundbreaking endeavor."
Normally, Jack wouldn't bother looking at a proposal just to please someone. But Zara was different.
He took the proposal and lowered his head to read it. The only sound in the room was the flipping of paper.
Zara kept her head down, sipping her coffee until he finished reading the last page and looked up at her.
She stared back at him in silence.
"You indeed have a good eye for this," Jack said with an affectionate tone. "However, this project is too avant-garde and risky."
Zara nodded. "Indeed, avant-garde projects come with certain risks. But precisely because of those risks, there is infinite amount of possibilities and opportunities."
Jack agreed with her, "You're right. I trust your judgment. However, I still can't invest in this project."
Zara didn't ask for the reason and simply accepted his decision. "It's okay; I'll leave the information here. You can take a look whenever you want."
They chatted for a while, and Jack couldn't help asking about her mating. "I heard you got mated. Why didn't you bring your mate here? I want to see what kind of man is lucky enough to mate with you."
The mention of mating made the smile on Zara's face gradually fade. It became extremely faint as she said, "I already dissolved my bond."
Jack was first surprised, then he slammed the table, "Who's blind enough to let go of such a great she-wolf!"
He was genuinely angry.
Seeing him angry for her, Zara felt warm in her heart and couldn't help but find it amusing.
"What's so great about me? Only you would think I'm a great one," she said lightly.
"Who said that!" Jack glared at her, completely different from his usual appearance. "However, it's his loss. I'll introduce someone better to you!"
"Sure, why not?" Zara didn't take it seriously and nodded along with his words.
She didn't stay long and soon took her leave.
Jack personally saw her off. At the door, Zara took out a peace talisman she had just prayed for and handed it to him, "This is what I prayed for today. I hope you stay safe and find the person you seek."
Jack silently accepted it and rubbed the peace talisman with his fingers for a long time. "Are you hoping I'll let her go?" he asked, his gaze intense under his snow-white hair.
Zara gently pursed her lips and said softly, "I hope you can let go of yourself."
She knew best about the matter between Jack and his ex-mate. The depth of his hatred toward her was evident.
In this world, love and hatred often went hand in hand. She hoped he could let go completely.
"You little one," Alpha Anderson teased.
A trace of warmth appeared in his cold gaze.
He smiled, "Alright, I'll listen to you!"
Years ago, he was deceived by his ex-mate, left in huge debts, and faced various blows. He almost took his own life.
That night, he stumbled upon Zara's live stream and was immediately drawn in by her hopeful outlook.
She scrolled through the countless messages and saw the distressing signs of his suicidal thoughts. She quickly contacted him and offered her support.
She even came to Silvaria to help him.
Back then, she gave him ten thousand dollars. Though it wasn't much, it became the strength that helped him stand back up.
Since then, they had kept in touch, and even after he climbed back to the peak of life, he never forgot the little she-wolf who had pulled him back from the brink of death.
Zara bid farewell and turned to leave.
"Zara," Jack suddenly called out to her again.
