Kai's face turned to the side, his amber eyes filled with shock and hurt.
"Baby... Zara, what will it take for you to forgive me?"
"I will never forgive you."
"From the moment you decided to wait for Vixen to come of age and bond with her, this were no future for us."
"Vixen has completely insane now. So baby, just come back with me and I'll make sure I'll treat you well for the rest of my life. We can get legally mated. I was wrong—I really can't live without you!" Kai desperately tried to explain.
Finally, some emotion crossed Zara's face. But only disgust.
"Kai, you're absolutely disgusting."
Disgusting?
Kai staggered back two steps, his heart feeling like it was being crushed in a giant fist, making it impossible to breathe.
His Zara said he was disgusting.
Tears fell uncontrollably as he looked at her through blurred vision. He opened his mouth but couldn't make a sound.
Just then, Sterling walked in from outside, glanced coldly at Kai, and approached Zara.
"Zara, Grandma Rose wants you to come back for dinner." Sterling naturally took Zara's hand.
Zara didn't refuse and walked out with him, never looking back at Kai.
Kai snapped out of it and chased after them.
His leg hadn't fully healed, and every step he took on the bumpy stone path sent shooting pains through him.
Soon he was drenched in sweat from the pain.
"Zara! How could you let him touch you?!"
"Please, stop. I'm begging you—just give me one more shot. I swear I'll love you right this time. Please..." Kai caught up, blocking Zara's path.
Zara frowned deeply and said impatiently, "I don't need your cheap love. I got over you a long time ago."
"Is it because of him? Zara, he lied to you all the time! He was not only some so-called lawyer, but also the notorious ruthless Alpha Ashford."
"Sterling, you're also using her. How much better are you than me?!" Kai turned his anger toward Sterling.
"Kai, what nonsense are you talking about! You never look for the cause within yourself. Don't make me regret ever loving you!"
With that, Zara pulled Sterling into the house.
Kai tried to follow, but Grandma Rose chased him away with a broom. "You're not welcome in my home. Get out of here!"
Word of Kai harassing Zara quickly spread through the village. The villagers organized a protection squad and forced Kai down the mountain.
Kai refused to leave, persistently trying to charge into the village. He was pushed down several times, ending up covered in injuries.
While Kai was fighting with the villagers, Zara and Sterling had already taken a back path down the mountain and left the village.
Grandma Rose was reluctant to see her go, packing lots of local specialties for her and asking her to visit often.
"Don't worry, Grandma. I'll come back. Take good care of yourself."
"You take care too, sweetie." Grandma Rose wiped her tears and waved goodbye to Zara.
Zara turned away with tears in her eyes, and after a few steps, couldn't help but cry.
"Don't cry. You can come back anytime you want." Sterling handed her a tissue and naturally took her bag to carry.
Zara gave a soft "mm-hmm" and kept walking forward.
Later, Zara found that there were many poor packs in these mountains.
Zara couldn't search for them one by one, so she discussed with Sterling about starting a company to work with relevant departments to improve living conditions based on local circumstances.
Meanwhile, when Kai was blocked from entering the pack, he lost his patience and had his beta bring pack warriors to force their way in.
He searched the entire pack but couldn't find Zara or Sterling. Pissed off beyond belief, he took his warriors and stormed out to keep hunting for Zara.
He never expected that the next time, he found Zara again, was on the day her own company was established.
