Zara stood on stage speaking eloquently, explaining the company's founding mission and encouraging people to help more and more poor packs.
She introduced their first project—helping poor packs in the west territory. Those areas had various forest resources, and she planned to combine the local conditions with sustainable development to attract more investments...
Kai stood in the corner, watching Zara in her business suit speaking confidently on stage, a flash of amazement appeared in his amber eyes.
He hadn't seen Zara shine like this in so long. Ever since they'd been together, she seemed trapped at the bottom of a well, with only him in her life.
She'd given everything, betting it all on loving him, but he'd let her down.
In this moment, Kai seemed to understand Zara's coldness and determination.
The Zara who loved him had died through his repeated lies and betrayals. Only by completely leaving him could she be reborn.
Now Zara had her own path she actually cared about, a life she wanted to live. She'd finally escaped from the bottom of that well.
Maybe he shouldn't keep bothering her.
"Why are you here again?" Zara came down from the stage and immediately spotted Kai.
"Zara, after leaving me, are you happier than before?" he asked hoarsely, staring intently at her.
"Yes." Zara answered without hesitation.
Kai looked down, his lips curving into a bitter smile. "I'm sorry. I hurt you before."
"I don't need your apology. I stopped hating you ages ago. Just go do whatever you need to do."
Zara was distant and cold. After speaking, she turned and left.
Kai stood frozen in place, staring blankly at her retreating figure. His chest felt tight and painful.
Then he found a flower shop and ordered flowers for a whole year, having them delivered to Zara's office every day.
Finally, Kai chose to leave.
As soon as he got off the plane, pack elders surrounded him, forcing him to resign.
Kai's expression was grim as he signed a betting agreement with them.
If he couldn't earn back two billion in six months, he'd voluntarily hand over the Blackthorn Pack. But if he succeeded, no one could oppose any of his future decisions.
Kai became a workaholic again, practically living at the pack company. He personally handled all major collaborations.
At the same time, he traveled for business constantly, both domestically and internationally, working around the clock. At his worst, he slept less than four hours in three days.
He often felt dizzy or experienced complete blackouts.
He thought it was just from working too hard and didn't pay attention to it.
Six months passed in a flash. Kai exceeded the agreement's requirements, leaving the pack elders speechless before they started flattering and praising him.
They thought Kai still truly cared about the pack and company, which was why he worked so desperately.
In reality, Kai did all of this for Zara.
