The slap echoed through the courtyard.
Zara's cheek stung, but the parents' jeers hurt worse.
"Playing innocent now? Maybe think twice before stealing someone's mate."
"Bet she's got a whole list of rich mated Alphas on speed dial."
"She-wolves like her are the worst. And that poor pup's going to grow up just like mommy."
More parents gathered around, phones out, filming everything. Some even spat in her direction.
Zara took off her designer coat—worth more than their monthly pack allowances—and dropped it in a nearby trash can. This wasn't purchased with the money Sterling gave her, but with the money she earned herself before mating.
Nobody knew that she had been quite wealthy even before she mated Sterling.
Then she turned to Celeste.
"First you get your pup to attack my daughter. Now you're hitting me in public. Where do you get the nerve?"
Celeste tossed her hair. "What? Are you counting on Sterling to stand up for you?"
She grinned and said, "Sterling doesn't love you at all. You're just using the pup to threaten him to be with you. I can do much worse things to you and your pup, and no one will dare to say a word."
Celeste had always been like this. She was as docile as a lamb in front of Sterling but showed her wolf fangs in front of Zara.
The crowd ate it up.
"If you hadn't chased after her mate, none of this would've happened."
"You're just a homewrecker. Keep your head down and be grateful that's all you got."
"Yeah, drop the victim act. We see right through you."
Their words just made Celeste bolder.
She glared at Zara's car. "Look at you, spending Sterling's money! A luxury car? You're nothing but a fucking bitch."
Her voice turned ugly. "I hate she-wolves like you. You all deserve to die!"
She pulled out her keys and scratched two words across the car:
"HOMEWRECKERS DIE"
Zara stared at the jagged letters. "You'll regret those words soon enough."
That set her off.
"You spend Sterling's money and acting all high and mighty?" She grabbed a brick from the garden. "Time to pay it all back!"
She smashed every inch of Zara's car. Windows. Lights. Hood. Nothing escaped her rage.
The other parents joined in, grabbing whatever they could find. Zara's hundred-thousand-dollar car turned to scrap metal in minutes.
After breaking the windows, they tore up the leather seats. Then someone popped the trunk.
"Holy shit! Look at all this stuff!"
Celeste pulled out a painting, sneering. "Playing art collector with Sterling's money? Please."
She ripped it in half. "Trash like you deserves trash."
A bystander's eyes went wide. "Wait—that's a Morrison original! They sell for millions!"
Celeste just laughed. "So what? Anyway, she sold her body and cheated Alphas out of their money to buy those things. We have the right to destroy anything."
Zara could barely contain her anger.
Though Sterling is very wealthy, and he is extremely generous to her. Just one card he casually gave her contains enough money for a person to live very comfortably for a lifetime.
However, before mating him, she already had a successful career. Over the years, she has spent most of her own money. The cards he gave her have been put away and never used.
She bought this painting on her own.
All the people praised Celeste. Zara watched indifferently, leaving Celeste alone to revel in their admiration.
The parents kept destroying her things, ripping up million-dollar paintings like confetti.
She'd just bought them at auction that morning. Hadn't even gotten them home.
Watching these idiots, Zara pulled out her phone.
"Get here in five minutes. No excuses."
One of the moms snatched her phone and smashed it. "Calling your sugar Alpha for help?"
"Probably has a whole lineup of rich Alphas on call!"
They roared with laughter, thinking they were so clever.
Zara looked at her crushed phone and said quietly, "Keep laughing. You won't be for long."
They found that hilarious.
"A homewrecker trying to act tough?"
"You're nothing but an ant to squash."
The mockery grew louder. Some spat at her again.
Celeste dug her heel into Zara's face, grinning. "Me? Regret anything? Never. Let's see you try to make me."
Zara turned to Mrs. Thornfield. "You knew they were hurting my daughter, didn't you?"
She looked at Zara like she was dirt. "Yeah, so what?"
"Blake did us all a favor. Taking out the trash isn't a crime."
Zara took a breath and tried to suppress her anger. "When Sterling gets here, you'll know who the real trash is."
Zara's cheek stung, but the parents' jeers hurt worse.
