The parents shouted.
"Look how dark his face is!"
"That homewrecker really crossed the line this time."
"Everyone record this! She's about to get what she deserves!"
The crowd buzzed with anticipation, waiting for Sterling's next move.
Celeste was so sure of her position, certain Sterling would choose her.
However, Sterling pushed away her outstretched hand and stared intently at Zara and Lyra.
That's when Lyra stepped forward, tugging Sterling's sleeve.
Her innocent eyes looked up at him, confused. "Daddy, why is that boy calling you his daddy too?"
Before Sterling could answer, Blake shoved her hard.
"Stop calling him that, you stupid brat!"
"I guess I didn't hurt you enough earlier."
"He's MY dad! I'll kill you for trying to steal him!" Blake raised his fist again.
Just then, Sterling grabbed Blake and warned him through gritted teeth, "Don't touch her!"
Blake lost his balance and crashed onto the pavement.
His elbow scraped raw against the concrete, drawing blood.
His screams pierced the air.
Celeste rushed to his side and hugged her son. In pain, she murmured, "Sterling, how could you do this to Blake? He is a poor pup. His father has been absent since he was little. You promised to treat him as if he were your own son..."
But Sterling ignored her. He knelt beside Lyra. "Sweetheart, are you hurt?"
Lyra, who used to adore her father, shrank back in fear.
She buried herself in Zara's arms, watching him like a wounded animal.
Sterling's face crumpled at her reaction.
Just then, a black Mercedes and several police cruisers pulled up.
A man in an expensive suit hurried over, looking apologetic.
"Luna, I apologize for the delay. Traffic was awful."
"The bond dissolution papers are ready."
"And I brought officers to handle the assault charges."
Saw the situation, the parents exploded. "How a desperate bitch! Hiring actors now?"
"Called the cops on herself—how pathetic!"
Once, Zara could endure everything for the sake of her love with Sterling. But today, Celeste had crossed her bottom line, which was laying hands on her pup Lyra.
Zara turned to the officers, her voice steady. "These people assaulted me, vandalized my car, destroyed millions in artwork, and her son deliberately injured my daughter with silver wire."
"I want them charged. No deals."
The once-bold parents started to squirm.
But some still shouted. "Stand your ground! We're protecting proper mating here!"
"Right! We're fighting for morality! Everyone supports us!"
The crowd cheered, boosting their fading courage.
The officer surveyed the damage, his expression darkening.
"Assault, vandalism, and child abuse in broad daylight?"
He started documenting evidence.
Celeste stood tall, not caring at all. "Officer, pups sometimes play roughly, and none of the damaged items were bought with her money."
The parents chimed in desperately. "Exactly! It all belongs to Alpha Ashford!"
"What right does a homewrecker have to complain?"
"She's just trying to scam money!"
Celeste grabbed Sterling's arm. "Honey, you wouldn't allow this she-wolf to squander your money like this, would you?"
Sterling yanked away like her touch burned. "She's my mate, and no one can interfere with how she spends my money!"
Celeste froze, staring at him in shock.
The crowd fell silent, confused. "What's happening?"
As everyone watched, Sterling walked slowly toward Zara.
Sterling sighed. He bent down and reached out his hand to her, trying to pull her up.
"It's not what you think, Zara. I can explain..."
