In the VIP lounge, Vixen threw herself into Kai's arms, lifting her seductive face to kiss him passionately.
"Alpha, I've missed you so much. Just let me kiss you for a minute."
Kai wrapped one arm around her waist, his other hand pressing against the back of her head as he responded with equal passion. The air between them grew thick with primal energy.
After a long moment, Vixen pushed him away, her face flushed and breathing ragged. "Okay, you need to get back to Zara."
"You really want me to leave?" Kai's amber eyes were glazed with lust as his thumb traced her swollen lips.
Vixen looked down. "Of course I don't, but I can't bear to see Zara upset. She wouldn't even take your calls because of me. I'm perfectly fine waiting here until you're finished spending time with her."
"Moon Goddess, you're so sweet it kills me. I don't want to leave you either. Baby, forget about everyone else right now and let your Alpha take care of you."
Kai kissed her lips, then trailed down to mark her neck and chest.
Soft moans escaped from Vixen's lips as her nails dug into his back. "Oh Goddess, not there—you're driving me crazy."
"You dirty little she-wolf, you're completely wet for me."
The intimate scene hit Zara like a silver blade to the gut.
She bit down hard on her hand to keep from crying out. She'd thought she couldn't hurt any more than she already did, but seeing this with her own eyes was absolutely devastating.
Kai had betrayed her in every way possible—emotionally and physically.
Her stomach burned with nausea. She covered her mouth and ran to the bathroom, retching violently as sharp pains shot through her lower abdomen.
She gently touched her stomach, tears blurring her vision.
Little pup, I'm so sorry.
I'm sorry you had to see what kind of Alpha your father really is. Please forgive mommy for not being able to bring you into this world.
Zara emerged from the bathroom pale and unsteady on her feet. The deck was still bustling with activity, but Kai and Vixen were nowhere to be seen.
The fireworks show ended, and only then did Kai and Vixen return one after the other. Vixen looked radiant and completely satisfied.
She deliberately sat down next to Zara and opened a velvet jewelry box with a smile. "Luna Zara, this is a gift for you. I made it myself."
"I can never thank you and Alpha Kai enough for everything you've done for me. Five years ago, I didn't save you—you both saved me. I really hope you two will be together forever and always stay this happy."
Inside the box was a bright green bracelet, the color garishly vivid.
Zara stared at her blankly, then gave a tight smile. "Keep it for yourself. I don't like it."
Vixen's hands trembled, and her eyes immediately welled up with tears. She instinctively looked toward Kai.
Kai acted as if he hadn't seen her pleading look, his gentle gaze focused entirely on Zara, as if she was the only person in his world. "My Luna doesn't like it, so take it back."
Vixen put away the gift looking hurt. "Then can I at least make a toast? I wish you all the happiness in the world."
Zara didn't refuse this time. She accepted the drink Vixen offered and took a sip.
Vixen's face lit up with a smile again as she turned to leave. But for just a moment as she turned away, something cold and malicious flashed in her eyes.
Her foot caught on a chair leg, and she cried out as she fell to the ground, clutching her stomach.
"Oh Moon Goddess!"
Everyone panicked, and the people nearby rushed to help her up. When they saw drops of bright red blood staining her dress, they were horrified.
They immediately looked toward Kai, and Zara instinctively looked at him too.
His expression remained completely calm. When he noticed Zara looking at him, he smiled tenderly and took her hand, saying casually to the others, "You guys take her to the pack hospital. I'm staying here to finish watching the show with my Luna."
The crowd helped Vixen off the boat while Kai continued holding Zara's hand, listening to the band's performance.
If she hadn't already known about their affair, she really would have been fooled by his acting.
Zara's heart grew colder and colder, and the pain in her lower abdomen was getting worse.
Just as she was about to suggest going home, Kai's phone rang.
"Alpha Blackthorn, you left in such a hurry earlier that we still haven't resolved that alliance contract issue. Could you possibly come to the pack house?" His beta's urgent voice came through the phone.
Kai frowned, stayed silent for a few seconds, then hung up. When he looked at Zara, his eyes held a hint of guilt. "Baby, I need to deal with some pack issues real quick. Can you wait here for a bit? I'll have the driver come pick you up, okay?"
Zara laughed coldly to herself. "Sure, go ahead."
Kai stood up to kiss her forehead, but she pretended to cough and turned her head away.
Without time to think much about it, Kai hurried off.
Zara knew he was going to the hospital. Her heart no longer ached the way it had before.
Zara waited for half an hour, but the driver never showed up.
She felt a sharp cramping pain in her abdomen that made her double over. Looking at the broken glass on the floor, a horrifying thought struck her.
Vixen had poisoned her drink.
Zara struggled to stand and carefully collected the glass fragments that still had liquid residue on them.
The pain in her stomach was getting worse, spreading from her stomach to her lower abdomen. She could clearly feel something tearing at her insides, and warm liquid began flowing out.
Instinctively, she dialed Kai's number. He didn't answer.
The driver's phone was unreachable too.
Using her last bit of strength, Zara called for an ambulance...
