I looked at the sky. Has the sun risen from the west?
"No need." I immediately refused.
Sterling's face was already grim, and hearing my rejection made it even more unpleasant. "It's not easy to get a taxi here. Why would you let the pup endure the cold wind with you?"
I obviously won't stand here enduring the cold wind. I had driven here. But it wouldn't be safe to let Lyra sleep on the car seat at will. Considering this, I finally stopped and followed Sterling into his car.
I noticed the wound on Sterling's hand, and when he was about to open the car door for me, I stopped him. "Why don't we switch places? You help me hold Lyra in the back."
"You know how to drive?" Surprise showed on Sterling's face.
I didn't just "know" how to drive. After four years in the Ashford pack, Sterling didn't even know that I could drive, which was enough to show how little attention he paid to me. I didn't say much, just nodded and took the keys from him.
Sterling didn't say anything and got into the car. When I handed Lyra to him, he was completely awkward.
"Holding her head is enough."
Sterling raised his arms a bit higher, supporting the little head against his chest. He didn't dare to move. When he looked down and saw the rosy face of the pup leaning against his chest, with her hair flowing, a soft sensation passed through his heart.
I remained silent, got into the car, and skillfully started the engine. Not wanting Sterling to know my location, I drove to a convenient spot to call a taxi and then stopped. "We're here, thank you."
After saying that, I hugged Lyra from his arms and walked away.
"Zara!"
From behind, Sterling called my name. "I owe Lyra, and I will make it up to her, but my pup will never need someone else as a father, that's for sure!"
"I'm really curious, how will Alpha Sterling make it up to Lyra?" I stopped and half-smiling, looked at him.
"Tomorrow I will have our bond dissolution quashed, you move back to the Ashford pack house, and I will try to spend as much time as possible with Lyra."
"Annulment of bond dissolution?" Sterling said this, and I was quite surprised. "Alpha Ashford made this decision, does Miss Celeste agree?"
"Why would she agree?" Just confronting me, Sterling's tone becomes rather impatient.
"You two are engaged, this is the least respect for your mate."
When I got to academy, Celeste showed me a picture of Sterling at their engagement.
It is also because of that photo that parents all think that Celeste is Sterling's legitimate mate.
"Huh? Engagement?" Sterling was obviously surprised, but he didn't bother much and said, "Just follow my instructions, you don't need to worry about anything else!"
I have long been used to Sterling's arrogance. I didn't get angry but tilted my head. "Then I have a question that you might care more about. Does Alpha Ashford want to cancel the bond dissolution decision because you love me?"
"All I'm doing is to give my pup a complete family!" Sterling didn't think much and threw out a warning.
"Just that?"
I burst into laughter in front of him.
"Do you really think having both parents is the best way for a pup's comprehensive development?"
"You've never experienced growing up in an incomplete family, so how would you know this type of family is not good?"
"Since I was young, I didn't have a mother. My father raised me alone, but I've never felt pitiful."
"He gave me all his love and only asked one thing from me, which is to live happily."
"But our mating has lasted for four years. Now Lyra is three years old. Let me ask, has the little one been happy in the past three years?"
"She's afraid that you're not happy, afraid that your mother is not happy, afraid that your younger sister is not happy, afraid of upsetting me, and she's even afraid that I won't be happy."
"To avoid making others unhappy, she tried her best to behave well and obediently to the extent that she didn't dare to perform her favorite dances!"
"Do you still want her to stay in such a dull environment? Do you want to drive her insane?"
Upon hearing this, I couldn't help but choke up.
"All of these things can change," Sterling didn't think it was a big deal.
"What if they change? It's undeniable that you don't love me. How will Lyra feel in the future? She might think that it's because of her existence that we are bound to each other. She'll think she's to blame!"
Sterling: "..."
Before I mentioned this, he thought it was the best way to make it up to Lyra.
"Sterling, don't worry, I will take good care of Lyra."
His arm was hurting from holding Lyra for too long, and he lowered his head and walked away.
Third-Person's POV
Sterling didn't go pack house but headed to Celeste's place.
Seeing Sterling, Celeste's eyes lit up, and she jumped up, "Sterling, you're here, come in."
Sterling didn't budge, just placed his phone in front of her, "Quickly delete this photo."
Celeste looked down and saw the post on her social media alluding to her engagement.
"I'm really sorry, Sterling. I just missed the old days, found this picture, and felt happy, so I posted it."
She hurriedly explained while secretly observing Sterling's expression.
"Remembering it reminds me, it's all Zara's fault. If she hadn't spoken too quickly and made me unable to get on stage, we wouldn't have broken up..."
"The matter between you and me has never had anything to do with Zara." Sterling coldly reminded.
Tonight, he didn't want to hear that name again.
"Besides, we broke up long ago. Now we're just friends."
After saying that, he turned around and walked outside.
Behind him, Celeste tightly clenched her fingers, her beautiful face contorting.
Upon returning, she didn't mention anything about their relationship but silently plotted, waiting for the results.
She thought they both had the same plan, but now it's clear that Sterling wants to clarify things between them.
Could it be that Zara set a trap?
As she was pondering, her phone suddenly rang.
Celeste was annoyed, but she still answered the call.
A slow and deliberate voice came from the other end, "Do you know what interesting thing I heard just now? Sterling, with his cold demeanor, is now requesting his ex-mate to cancel the bond dissolution application."
"Because of the feelings we've had for years, let me remind you, this time, don't let your Alpha slip away again, okay?"
