"Oh, what a coincidence to run into a cur everywhere I go," Freya leaned against the corridor wall, arms crossed, with a disgusted look on her face as she watched the two embracing.
With her slightly raised eyebrows, Freya always made people feel like she could see their flaws. She was the type that easily made others feel guilty.
Celeste felt uneasy and moved away from Sterling's embrace. With an elegant gesture, she smoothed her hair and looked at Freya with disapproval. "Miss Freya, you're a public figure. How can you speak like this?"
Freya disdainfully snorted at Celeste's pretentious goddess act. "I'm just telling the truth."
"To call someone a cur, is that telling the truth?" Celeste retorted.
"Don't think that wearing clothes makes you a wolf. You're just beasts disguised in wolf skin! No, not even beasts. At least animals know their face."
"Those scums, they dug their hearts and livers, wishing to give their lives for them. And what did they do? They can't even howl without their permission, yet they still treat them like precious treasures!"
Such harsh words could only come from Freya. However, coming from her, they didn't make her seem low, but rather sharp.
"What do you mean?" Sterling, with a gloomy expression, finally spoke up. His cold gaze didn't fall on Freya, but passed beyond her to the back.
There, Zara was rushing over.
She had just gone to get medicine, and when she turned back, she couldn't find Freya. She guessed that Freya was upset about her matter and knew that Sterling's arrival wouldn't go unnoticed.
So she hurried back.
As expected, Zara saw Freya confronting Sterling and Celeste. She frowned at the sight.
She was about to come over when she heard Sterling's words and stopped in her tracks.
Her eyes met Sterling's gaze.
There was no emotion in Sterling's indifferent eyes, "It was you who asked for the bond dissolution in the first place, and it was you who wrote the terms of the settlement. I gave you compensation, and what I didn't want was also because of you. You used to act so self-righteous, so why do you need to find someone to sympathize with you now?"
"Humph! Does Zara lack your compensation?" Freya interrupted before Zara could speak, "The Ashford pack, all of you are despicable. You used to wish that you could treat Zara like a servant, and you made things difficult for her at every turn. In such a disgusting pack, how could you not get bond dissolution?"
"Although the terms of the settlement were favorable to you, consider it as a favor we did for you. We've accepted it!"
Freya's words were sharp, even Sterling, who was used to seeing big scenes, had a change in his expression.
His face turned extremely unpleasant.
She not only cursed wolves cynically, but also degraded the entire Ashford pack as worthless!
Since Sterling took over the management of the Ashford pack, the pack had never been insulted like this!
His face was dark, as if a thunderstorm was about to break out.
His dark pupils were so dim that they didn't have a trace of light.
"If you continue to be friends with someone who has no basic moral principles, your later life is destined to be a tragedy!"
Sterling still ignored Freya, but coldly reminded Zara.
After saying that, he held Celeste's hand and said, "Let's go."
"Alpha Sterling Ashford, wait a minute!" Zara called out.
She had only intended to take Freya away without getting involved with Sterling. But now, seeing him belittling Freya, how could she remain silent?
Zara walked a few steps forward, standing before Sterling and Celeste. Celeste instinctively straightened her posture and tiptoed, trying to appear taller than Zara by half a head.
Without even glancing at Celeste, Zara looked at Sterling with clear eyes. "You mention Freya's straightforwardness, but I'm not sure you're qualified to make judgments about her moral integrity, Alpha Ashford. It's admirable that she still holds her friends in high regard and is willing to make sacrifices for their sake."
"But Alpha Ashford..." Zara suddenly smirked, a mocking smile on her face. "Your pregnant mate was left alone in a desolate snowfield to fend for herself; how could you do something like that and still claim to have moral integrity?"
As soon as those words hit Sterling, he felt like the wind had been knocked out of him. Embarrassment was evident on his dark face, his cheeks tinged with red.
"Bringing up old matters, Zara, is it because you still haven't given up on Alpha Ashford and want to rekindle the old flame?" Celeste, who had been silent, suddenly chimed in with a soft, drifting tone.
This sentence easily changed the atmosphere and twisted Zara's defense of Freya.
The embarrassment that had briefly shown on Sterling's face vanished at an alarming rate, and he resumed his usual stoic expression. "If you came here with such thoughts, it's best to let go of that hope!"
In the next moment, he turned his head and asked, "What happened? Didn't you see anyone following us?"
One of the pack warriors in the back replied hesitantly, "..."
Hearing his words, Zara couldn't help but laugh in anger. "Alpha Ashford, you're quite good at fantasizing. You can even come up with such ideas."
"Just so. The hospital gate is open, and whoever wants to come can come. Do we need to report to you?" Freya retorted without reservation.
Then the two exchanged a smile. "Let's go," they said in unison, holding hands and turning to leave.
Celeste's gaze followed the two as they walked away, her brows silently furrowing. This was supposed to be her happiest moment, but it was ruined by these two she-wolves! She had never been magnanimous; all her generosity was just a pretense. Zara had effectively ruined her mood, and now she had no intention of making things easy for her.
"Zara," she said calmly, "Sterling and I are officially together now. I hope you don't have any issues with that."
The two in front of her suddenly halted their steps. Freya opened her mouth to respond, but Zara pulled her back to stop her. Freya didn't understand, feeling a bit anxious, she mouthed to Zara asking why she couldn't speak. Given the offensive words from Celeste, she could easily curse her out.
Zara gave her a calming expression and then slowly turned around to look at Celeste. "Then let me congratulate both of you. On your big day, don't forget to send me an invitation. I will personally come and wish you lasting love for a scum alpha and his cur."
Zara's words hit the air, and the once-calm faces on the opposite side contorted with anger.
Celeste was puzzled when Zara didn't show any sign of being affected by her remarks.
The next reaction was that the phrase "lasting love" came after "scum alpha and his cur," and she was being insulted!
"You!" She was so angry that she almost lost her composure, tightly clenching her fingers.
Zara and Freya had already turned around and disappeared.
"Aren't Miss Silvermoon and the others going too far?" Celeste turned around and pouted at Sterling.
Sterling stood there, rigid and unresponsive like a piece of lumber. Zara's words floated to him effortlessly, and he caught the glint in her eye.
It was indifferent, as if he was a stranger.
He winced at the sight of this look, feeling as though a silver blade had just dug into his chest and left him with a sharp pain.
It wasn't until Celeste called him a few more times that he came back to his senses.
He glanced indifferently at Celeste, still showing no response to what she said. His attention was entirely on Zara, and he didn't even hear what Celeste had said.
"Let's go," he said flatly.
Celeste's face contorted in displeasure as she bit her lip, feeling a sense of injustice. She had been looking forward to this day for months, but now all she felt was frustration and sadness.
Celeste had resolved to be a well-behaved and obedient she-wolf in front of Sterling. She suppressed her grievance and nodded. "Okay."
The two walked out, one after the other. Unexpectedly, when they reached the hospital gate, they ran into Zara and Freya.
Seeing the person in front of the two, Celeste couldn't help but whisper in surprise, "Sterling, isn't that Alpha Robin? Why is Zara with him?"
With her slightly raised eyebrows, Freya always made people feel like she could see their flaws. She was the type that easily made others feel guilty.
