"Drift King is here!" someone announced.
"Drift King?" Celeste's eyes slightly dimmed. Was Robin ignoring her because of Drift King?
She was felt overshadowed and overlooked. It was an undeniable fact that she was the most talented female racer at the moment. Though she was dissatisfied, she recognized Drift King's reputation among the racers.
She suppressed her discomfort and tugged on Sterling's sleeve, saying, "Let's go and take a look too."
She had never seen Drift King before. Of course, her purpose in going was not because of Drift King; his identity was not important to her.
Robin was the first to run onto the racetrack.
A yellow sports car slowly approached.
The car's sharp lines revealed Freya's bold and confident face. She was wearing a black and white racing suit, which enhanced her striking beauty.
Freya's beauty was different from Celeste's. It exuded a dominant and heroic aura, completely embodying the essence of a tough elder sister.
Sitting next to her was a person wearing the same racing suit. Since they were in the car and wearing a helmet, their gender wasn't clear.
Robin rushed over, almost blocking the path. Freya had to hit the brakes to avoid hitting him. Ignoring the danger, Robin ran to the passenger side and opened the car door. The person inside the car finally moved, slowly taking off their safety helmet.
Before their helmet was fully removed, only a delicate chin was revealed, and a sound of surprise came from the crowd!
Robin's excitement froze. "Freya, what is this?"
Celeste and Sterling approached, and when Celeste saw the person inside the car, her expression visibly stiffened.
"Zara... Zara?"
"Freya, what are you trying to do? We were all eagerly waiting for Drift King, and how could you bring..." Another racer, Howell, looked at Zara with disdain. He had been to the Ashford pack and had seen this Sterling's inconspicuous ex-mate.
"Didn't you say you would bring Drift King?" Robin's face was extremely unpleasant.
He had been waiting for Drift King for four years.
In a race back then, Drift King won the gold medal by being nearly a lap faster than the second-place finisher. He had captivated countless fans and had an enormous following in the racing world.
There was a saying in the racing community: anyone who raced was a fan of Drift King.
Robin didn't like it.
With his current status, he wouldn't normally bother with such small and worthless races. However, his heart was set on competing with Drift King, to settle the question of who was truly superior.
Robin was acquainted with Zara.
Despite his arrogant attitude, he was once a familiar face among the Ashford pack.
Not doing those things didn't mean he would connect Zara with Drift King.
Freya scanned the crowd, searching for the perfect moment to introduce Zara as Drift King. However, her gaze soon fell on the two wolves holding hands.
She smirked inwardly and decided not to say it out loud. She turned to Robin with a smile and said, "Whether it's Drift King or not isn't important. What's important is that the woman I brought today has extraordinary skills."
Robin sneered.
Regardless of how skilled someone was, it didn't matter if they weren't Drift King.
Although others were disappointed not to see Drift King, they still had Thunder Strike.
Now that someone had the chance to challenge him, this trip wasn't in vain.
"You can't just compare anyone," some of the other racers sneered. They already looked down on female racers, and now seeing Zara's delicate appearance, they didn't believe she could race. Some even thought she would find it difficult to drive on the track.
Having run on the training track themselves, how could they tolerate Zara's reckless behavior?
However, it was known that Freya had some reputation in this circle. She couldn't outright refuse. They reached a consensus that a selection race would be the most efficient way to determine the chosen one.
Their idea was simple: eliminate Zara through the selection race, and even Freya had nothing to say about it.
Freya turned to look at Zara.
Zara's competitors looked at her with pleading eyes, silently hoping she would withdraw from the competition and they could skip the selection race altogether.
None of the rich young masters would be willing to compete with her, a weak and inexperienced she-wolf. Would they even need to drive against her?
Even if they won, their reputation would suffer.
Zara, however, remained silent, lost in thought.
Freya understood and gracefully tapped the steering wheel. "Alright."
Since Zara wasn't willing to withdraw, they could only proceed with the plan. Though the others were displeased, what could they say? Secretly, they rolled their eyes at Zara. She was overestimating herself, wasting their time.
Freya and Zara seemed oblivious to everyone's dissatisfaction.
Freya hopped out of the car to join the others in drawing lots to determine the groups.
Robin and Celeste, being of a higher rank in this group, were exempted from the selection race.
**Zara's POV**
I remained calmly seated in my car and noticed Celeste and Sterling standing not far away. I still couldn't be bothered to look at them.
This was truly strange. When I was madly in love with him, even just a smile from him could make me happy all day long. During those ten-plus days when I learned that Celeste had returned from abroad, I felt so tormented, anxious, and fearful. I was in chaos, restless, couldn't sleep well, and even had nightmares. Just the thought of them being affectionate with each other was heart-wrenching.
Now, after the bond dissolution, I didn't feel anything even when I saw them together. I didn't even have the urge to look at them. On the contrary, Sterling's gaze darkened as he stared at me.
"Miss Silvermoon, should we assume you're not feeling well and came here to find comfort?"
Saying that, Celeste walked towards me.
But I was still absorbed in my phone, checking the information related to the race.
Racing wasn't just about driving; it involved understanding wind direction, temperature, humidity, and even calculating every little stone on the track. If I didn't have this basic information beforehand, it could lead to major accidents.
Originally, this was Freya's job, but since I had nothing else to do, I took on this task.
As Celeste came closer, I didn't notice her at all. Even though she had experienced being ignored before, Celeste still tightened her grip.
When no one was watching, she didn't need to act like an elegant goddess. Her face turned cold as she said, "We coincidentally met at the pack hospital during the day, and now you're here again. Until now, you still can't let go of Sterling, can you?"
I was busy with my work and was caught off guard by what I heard. I furrowed my eyebrows, clearly showing my displeasure.
I didn't say anything and just waved my hand in front of me as if shooing a fly.
From Celeste's perspective, she probably felt like she was an annoying buzzing fly disturbing me.
I had just neglected her! Again!
