Aria’s POV
I was dragged out of the venue like a criminal.
A whole mob of reporters was waiting outside. They were probably here to snap some glamorous shots of rich people on the red carpet—but the second they saw me, they all swarmed over like flies smelling blood.
The flashing lights nearly blinded me.
“What happened? Why is this girl being dragged out?”
The soldiers escorting me didn’t answer. They just kept shoving me forward, forcing me through the crowd.
Then there was a sharp female voice answering nearby:
“She seduced Lady Delilah’s husband and Alpha Grayson! The former Luna had her arrested!”
Of course it’s Brielle.
She was standing among the reporters, looking at me. There was a huge smug grin on her face.
“Get a good shot of her face!” she turned to yell to everyone. “Let the whole world see this shameless whore! You wouldn’t want her anywhere near your husbands or sons—she’ll let any man have their ways with her!”
The crowd burst into mocking laughter. The reporters snapped photos like crazy, some of them nearly shoving their lenses into my face.
I avoided those lenses in horror. A wave of panic hit me.
No… what if Grandma sees this on TV? What if she believes these lies?
“NO—Stop it! Stop taking my photo!” I cried, my voice shaking.
“You should’ve thought about that before doing what you did!” someone shouted back, and the shutters clicked even faster.
I felt like I was getting drowned by the sea of flashlights.
And then suddenly, someone stepped in front of me.
“Put the damn cameras down!” Nora barked at the crowd. “And delete those fucking shots right now. Or I swear I’ll smash every last one of your equipment!”
The reporters hesitated for a brief moment. Then one of them muttered, “You don’t have the right—this is a free country, we’re allowed to film anything we want.”
“Oh yeah you want to challenge me? I’m Apex’s head of PR and Alpha Grayson’s personal assistant you asshole. This is your last warning. Keep filming and you’ll be going up against the Alpha himself!”
That shut them up real quick.
Everyone went quiet almost instantly. Then a second later, they all lowered their cameras and stepped back to clear a path.
“...Thank you,” I whispered to Nora. There’s tears in my throat.
Nora squeezed my hand. “Hang in there. Alpha Grayson already knew about this. He’s on his way back.”
I held my breath in shock. Hope suddenly burst through my chest like fire.
He’s coming back!
He’s coming to protect me—from his own family.
Just like that, all my fear vanished. I have nothing to be afraid of anymore.
The soldiers shoved me into a car and slammed the door shut. We raced out of the hotel. The windows were all covered—I couldn’t see where they were taking me.
Then after what felt like an hour of endless shaking and bumps, the car finally stopped.
The door opened. A cold-looking soldier barked at me, “Out.”
I climbed out slowly and looked around.
A massive, black gothic castle towered over me.
Tall spires stabbed into the sky. The dark windows looked like hollow eyes, watching over me like ghosts. It was the most terrifying, majestic building I’d ever seen.
I didn’t need anyone to tell me where I was.
This must be the Harts’ residence.
This place had the same vibe as the former Alpha and Luna…it reeked of wealth, power and ruthlessness.
“Move.”
I was shoved inside.
The grand hall I stepped into could probably hold a hundred people. Chandeliers glowed overhead. On the leather sofas sat four people. They all turned to me the second I walked in.
Right beside Delilah sat that fucking lying bastard Jace. I glared at him. He returned an indifferent look.
“Who brought her here?” the former Luna asked with a frown.
This was the first time I heard her speak. Her voice was just as I had imagined—elegant, icy, terrifying.
“I did,” Delilah gritted. Her eyes’s full of hatred when she looked at me. “I’m not done with her yet. Public humiliation was so not enough. She needs to be punished more.”
“Then cut off her hand. Burn her face. Make her disappear. I don’t care. Just don’t bring her into our house and ruin our good carpet.”
“No! Those are still not enough! Uhh I want to rip her fucking heart out!” Delilah screamed.
She stormed over in heels and yanked my hair back, forcing me to look at her. “I can’t believe how long you played me like a fool you disgusting bitch!”
“What did I even lie about? Don’t let that jerk get in your head!” I shouted.
“You lied about everything!” she cried. “I sat there pouring my heart out to you—about Jace’s ex, about our marriage, about my family—and you just sat there and listened without even a damn word! I knew you were laughing at me when I told you things. You’re a big, filthy liar!”
“No Delilah I just didn’t know how to tell you about me and Jace. Because I knew he would twist everything and try to make me the bad person. Actually he’s been trying to get back at me ever since we broke up—”
“Another lie!” she shouted. “It’s you. You’re the one who’s been holding a grudge. You're the one who wanted revenge on Jace because he dumped you!”
…What the hell?
I turned to glare at Jace. That bastard just looked at me with cold, empty eyes.
“What the hell did you tell her?!” I yelled.
“Don’t talk to my husband!” Delilah yanked my face back toward her. “You know exactly what you did. Jace dumped you and you couldn’t handle it. So you came after me and my brother. You manipulated both of us just to hurt him. You seduced Grayson and asked him to give Jace a hard time on practically everything! Jace didn’t have the heart to expose you—but you took advantage of his kindness!”
WTF.
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
That’s the story he fed her?!
He turned everything upside down. He made himself the victim.
“Jace said I seduced him?” My voice shook with rage. “Fucking ridiculous. I’ve moved on a long time ago but he kept stalking me even after the breakup! He begged me to come back—as his mistress! And you know what he said about you? He said you’re spoiled and entitled and he’s so sick of sucking up to you—”
SLAP.
Delilah smacked me hard, sobbing. “No! Liar! Shut up!”
I snapped. “Think about it, Delilah. Why wouldn’t he sign the prenup? That scumbag does not love you—he only loves your money. Your brother might be the only person who actually cares about you. And Jace’s been trying to turn you against your brother ever since you got married so that one day he can control the entire Hart family—”
“Don’t listen to her, babe!” Jace shouted.
“Shut up!!” Delilah screamed.
THUD. THUD THUD.
The old Alpha slammed his cane on the floor. The heavy sound silenced the entire room.
“Enough Delilah.” His voice echoed in the huge living room, deep and intimidating. “All this fuss…just because of one lowborn woman. Ridiculous.”
“This isn’t how we raised you, Delilah,” the former Luna added. “You’re better than this. She isn’t worth your anger.”
Delilah sniffled. “I’m sorry, Daddy, Mommy… I just got so angry. I didn’t know what to do…”
“She’s got nothing but a pretty face,” the old Luna said. “Slice it up and she won’t be seducing anyone ever again.”
What?
No…NO!
Soldiers grabbed my shoulders. One pulled out a knife. I wanted to scream—but they shoved a clog into my mouth.
Jace looked like he had something to say—but he glanced at Delilah and kept his mouth shut.
Tears of horror filled my eyes. They meant business. No, No, Stop—
“Make it good. I don’t want anyone to recognize her after the job. Not even her own parents,” the Luna ordered.
“Yes Madam Hart.”
The knife came slicing down toward my face. And almost at the same time—
BANG!
Somebody knocked down the front door.
