                    Aria's POV
I couldn’t stop trembling.
I kept hoping this was all just a bad dream—that we were still in that delivery truck, on the run from Red Stone Pack, hearts full of hope for a new life.
But it wasn’t.
His presence was too real, too strong for this to be a dream.
He suddenly spun me around, grabbing my chin to force me to look into his eyes.
A cold chill shot through me the second our eyes met.
“Last time, you insisted you weren’t trying to run away. You said you guys just went out for a drive,” he said, tightening his grip. “Then what about this time?”
I clenched my jaw, glaring at him without saying a word.
“Answer me!” he suddenly roared. “You and Zane hid in that truck for nearly ten hours and ended up in this fucking place. Don’t tell me you call that another joyride!”
“No! This time, I was trying to run away from you,” I snapped, my heart pounding painfully against my ribs. “Because I’m done with you! With this! I can’t stand it anymore—no one can! I’m taking my friends and my family and getting the hell away from you for good!”
Before I could say another word, he crashed his lips against mine, silencing me. I could taste the rage in that rough kiss.
I struggled hard, furious, pounding my fists against his chest.
“You signed the contract willingly. Nobody forced you to walk into my life,” he growled near my ear. “You were so damn happy when I pulled you out of that hellhole. You couldn’t wait to grab that lifeline. So don’t act like you didn’t choose this.”
“You never told me what I’d be facing,” I shot back. “Being broke and homeless would’ve been better than the humiliation I’ve suffered at your side!”
His hand clamped around my wrist, rage flickering in his eyes.
That’s when I heard footsteps behind us.
The red-haired man dragged Zane out. And I froze in horror. Zane was all beaten and bruised, his limping leg completely useless now.
“Don’t touch him!” I screamed, trying to break free. But Grayson tightened his hold.
“If you want him to live, you’d better shut up,” he growled.
The red-haired man smirked at me, still gripping Zane’s throat. “Well, hello there, Miss Collins. I’m Damian Elrod. Zane’s brother. And also his Alpha. So I absolutely have the right to discipline my disobedient pack member.”
“He didn’t do anything,” I said through a shaking voice. “You have no reason to treat him like this…”
“Oh he absolutely did. Destroying the alliance between Silver Creek and Red Stone? Running away with Alpha Grayson’s woman? That alone’s worth a hundred deaths. This little bastard here got nerves.”
I let out a furious growl at him.
He made it sound like I was Grayson’s property. Like I was some kind of slave. These arrogant rich pricks always forgot that I’m my a damn person with free will.
Zane suddenly raised his head and spat blood right into his brother’s face.
“…Fuck you Damian.” he hissed. “You’re a fucking son of a bitch you know that? I don’t regret a damn thing doing all these. Given a second chance, I’d still make the same choice. I’d still take Aria with me and run. And we’d make it the next time. You only caught us this time because luck is on your side—”
“Luck?”
Damian suddenly burst out laughing. “Oh no no no. Hell no! This had nothing to do with luck. Listen carefully now—we knew your entire plan! The moment you got into that truck, we knew.”
Zane froze. So did I.
“That pathetic trick you pulled at the hospital to fool the guards? You wouldn’t believe that actually worked, right? And Zane, hiding people in a cargo truck? That’s not even that clever. Truth is, we’ve been tracking you since the moment you left Red Stone Pack.”
…What?
So the entire time we thought we were escaping…we were walking toward new life…we were actually under their control all along?
“Then why… why let us get this far? Why not just grab us earlier?” I asked, my voice shaking.
“You don’t kill your prey right away,” Damian said lightly, grinning. “You play with it first. That’s how you hunt.”
So everything we did—every risk, every mile we ran—was just a joke to them.
I let out a furious scream and thrashed against his grip, but Grayson didn’t let go. Pain clawed at my chest as I shouted at him, “You son of a bitch—!”
“No Aria. You don’t get to be hurt. You don’t get to be mad,” he growled at me. “I gave you a choice! From the hospital to the checkpoint, you had a hundred chances to turn around. But you didn’t. You just kept going. You actually want to leave me!”
“Yes I did! Are you surprised? At least Zane is a decent, nice person. But you? You’re just a fucking monster!”
His face twisted into something terrifying—but I didn’t care anymore. My rage had drowned out my fear.
Damian let out a whistle. “Shall we deal with the boyfriend first?”
Grayson’s cold eyes locked onto mine, piercing straight through my soul.
“Yes,” he said with zero hesitation. “Do what you need to do. Let them see what betrayal leads to.”
…No.
Damian laughed and pulled out a gun. Without warning, he shot Zane in the leg.
Zane grunted. His face went ghost-white. At this point, he’s still clenching his teeth to hold back any painful moans.
But Damian kicked him down and stomped on the fresh wound.
That’s what broke him.
Zane finally let out a scream of pain.
“Stop! Let him go! STOP!” I roared, my voice breaking in despair.
Damian ignored me and ground his heel into the bullet hole. “Hey Zane. You wouldn’t believe you are actually some noble like me, are you? That you actually have any real power? Now here’s the cruel truth: You are no shit. Your mom’s a whore. You’re just one disgusting half-bred.”
Zane trembled on the ground, gasping for air. “Fuck you, you sick freak…”
“You’ll never win against us!” Damian laughed. “You can’t help her. You can’t even save yourself. Your whole life is a pathetic joke!”
The torture continued. Grayson leaned down and gripped my chin again, forcing me to look straight at Zane’s bleeding leg and the agony on his face.
“Watch closely, Aria.”
His voice was cold and ruthless.
“This is what happens when you try to run, when you try to defy me. Anyone you care about. This is what happens to them when you choose betrayal.”
