Aria’s POV
The second round of sex we had was long and exhausting. The man had stamina like a damn machine. I was seriously starting to think he didn’t get tired at all.
He finally had to stop in the middle because I was literally about to pass out. I was shaky, drained, and clearly low on blood sugar.
“You need food.”
He scooped me up and carried me to the table, dragging the breakfast plate back in front of me.
“I’m not hungry,” I muttered.
Actually, my stomach had been growling like crazy, but I just didn’t want to eat.
“You have to eat. Or do you want me to feed you?”
He picked up a fork and scooped some scrambled eggs like he actually meant it. And that’s when I realized he was serious! If I didn’t eat, this man—this cold-blooded, ruthless Alpha—would absolutely hand-feed me like a child.
“Okay, stop!” I blurted, snatching the fork out of his hand. “I’ll eat myself.”
And so began the painful process of chewing and swallowing food with a knotted stomach.
The truth, though, was that it tasted amazing, actually. Way too good for me to believe he was the one who made it. Because it didn’t look like someone who even knew where the kitchen was.
He wouldn’t let me sit on a chair, either.
Now I was planted firmly in his lap while I ate. He had one arm wrapped around my waist, and the other occasionally brushed my hair back. He kept kissing the side of my neck, breathing in my scent like he was addicted to it.
“This doesn’t feel like you,” I said after choking down a bite of pancake.
“What do you mean?” he asked, twirling a strand of my hair between his fingers.
“All this clinginess. Affection. Being… gentle. Can you go back to how you were before?” I said coldly.
Honestly, I’d rather have him be cruel.
It was easier to hate him that way.
“As long as you stay here with me like this, I’ll always be like this,” he said softly, like he meant it.
“Oh really? No more telling me I’m worthless? No more orgy parties with random women?” I shot back.
His body tensed instantly. “…I lost control sometimes. I’m not proud of that. But it won’t happen again.”
Yeah…like I’d ever believe in him again.
Sensing my suspicion, he tightened his hold around my waist. “Things will get better, Aria. I know it. I always feel better when you’re here.”
I stayed silent.
But seriously, if his first crush in life and his ex-wife couldn’t heal him, why the hell did he think I could do it? And I was just a glorified prisoner to him.
He kissed me again, deeper this time. I felt the shift in his breath, the heat rising from his body. And sure enough… I could feel him getting dangerously hard again.
“Want to finish what we started?” he murmured against my lips.
God, seriously? “Are you for real right now? Is this how often a normal male have sex?”
He chuckled hoarsely. “Maybe not. But it’s your fault for being this damn attractive. I don’t think I’ll ever get enough.”
His hand was sliding down again. I caught his wrist just in time.
“No. Not now. It’s still… sore. And swollen. I need a break.”
His expression turned serious fast. “Let me see.”
“What? No!” I gasped. “I just need rest!”
He frowned, then reluctantly backed off. “If it’s still not better by tonight, I’ll have to check if you need treatment.”
My face turned bright red.
So apparently that excuse was only good until sundown.
“So what do you want to do today?” he asked, stroking my hair. “Wanna go hunting in the mountains? Or take a swim in the lake? The water’s perfect this time of year.”
“We’re staying here longer?” I asked, stiffening. “Where are my grandmother and May?”
“They’re fine. I just wanted more time with you here. We barely get any privacy.”
But I wanted to see my family and friend so badly, just to make sure they were okay. Yet he didn’t give me time to press for more answers. Instead, he was suddenly all excited, pulling out clothes for me and asking me to go hunting with him.
Honestly, I just wanted to curl up in bed and wallow in my miserable mood. But then again, being alone with him in this bedroom? Probably even more dangerous. Going outside might actually be safer.
So I got dressed and followed him out.
And the moment I stepped outside, I realized just how deep into the mountains we were.
Towering peaks surrounded us. Thick forests were everywhere. We must’ve been tucked into some remote valley. Even if I shifted into my wolf and ran, it’d take days to find a way out.
“Why the hell is there even a cabin out here?” I asked. This wasn’t exactly a tourist spot.
“I come here sometimes. To hunt. Sometimes I stay a week or two.” he said.
So basically, even after all those hours of escaping, I was still running in circles inside his territory.
It was enough to make me want to scream.
He shifted into his wolf, stretched out his massive body, and then looked down at me. He mind-linked me:
“Want to ride on my back? Or are you shifting too?”
“Ride on the mighty Alpha’s back? How would I dare?” I snarked.
He growled low in warning. “If you keep that attitude, Aria, we’re going to have serious problems.”
I didn’t want to keep provoking him. But sometimes, I just couldn’t control the anger burning in my chest. It would take a long time for that to go away.
So I didn’t respond. I just shifted.
My wolf was small. Even smaller than most she-wolves. But at least she was graceful and beautiful, with golden-brown fur that shimmered in the sunlight.
Grayson’s black wolf seemed to love her. He immediately came over when she finished shifting, nudging her side gently, rumbling in his throat.
She didn’t mind his touch.
She nipped playfully at his neck and darted forward. He followed right after.
“Grey really likes your wolf,” he laughed through the mind-link. I guess Grey was his wolf’s name.
“What’s yours called?” he asked.
“Avery.”
“Grey sneaked into your dream to play with her a couple of times before. He was so relaxed afterward.”
I thought back to that dream—wolves chasing each other through a pine forest.
It had been one of the happiest and most relaxed moments I’d had in ages. I wondered if I’d ever feel that free again.
Our wolves started running. His wolf was three times Avery’s size, powerful and fast. He could’ve easily left us in the dust. But he didn’t. He ran beside us, clearing obstacles, guiding the way.
The scent of nature filled my nose as Avery sped up. Wind rushed through our fur. The forest bed shook underneath our paws.
For a moment, all the heaviness in my chest faded.
I felt… free.
A rustling came from the trees ahead. Avery leapt forward with a snarl and pounced.
It was a young deer.
She bit down, and it let out a low cry before dropping dead.
Grey trotted over, growling low in approval.
“Well done,” Grayson said, a hint of amusement in his voice. “A deer… very cute.”
“Hey! We’re not powerful warriors or Gammas. A deer’s more than enough for us.”
Avery shook out her fur proudly. She was clearly pleased with her catch.
“Want to take it back to the cabin? We can roast it for dinner,” he suggested.
Avery let out a soft growl of agreement. She picked up the deer in her jaws and walked ahead with her chin up proudly. Grey followed close behind, licking the blood from her fur with great tenderness.
We ran a little longer before heading back just before sunset.
I was beyond exhausted at this point.
As a city wolf, this was the most physical activity I’d done in ages. So as soon as we were back, I left the deer for him to handle and dragged myself to the bathroom.
When I came out, the cabin was already filled with the mouthwatering smell of roasted meat.
And I found him standing in front of the TV, watching the news.
How this remote-ass cabin even had cable was absolutely beyond me.
The anchor was saying:
“...Apex is currently experiencing unprecedented chaos. After losing the Elrod partnership, every decision made by new VP Delilah and her husband Jace has been under fire from shareholders and the public. Some say they’re driving the world’s biggest company straight into the ground.”
The screen cut to footage.
Delilah and Jace were getting out of a car, rushing into Apex headquarters under a wall of security. Protesters were screaming at them, some even throwing things.
The two of them looked like two rats in daylight.
The anchor continued:
“And seriously, a former socialite and a pretty boy who’s never succeeded at anything. How can these two people lead this company and this pack? The members have spoken. We want our true leader Alpha Grayson back!”
I glanced over at the man of the hour.
He looked calm. Completely unbothered by this chaos.
“But where was Alpha Grayson anyway? He hasn’t been seen in the public’s eyes for weeks. Is he on a classified military mission? Or is something wrong with his health? The public is growing more and more concerned.”
Well. It’s neither of those.
He was just here in the middle of nowhere. Busy imprisoning me.
“Are you ok with this?” I asked. “The company’s stock price is in freefall during your absence.”
“Are you worried about me?” he said, amused.
I shrugged. “Not really. Just wondering when we’re heading back.” Why should I ever get worried about him? It’s not like he’d ever go bankrupt.
He pulled me into his arms, kissing my hair. “I think Delilah and that idiot deserve to suffer a bit longer. Besides, I thought you’d be happy?”
“Why would I be happy?”
“I know they hurt you. I’ll punish them for you. Zane’s not the only one who can fight for you. I can do that too.” He said, possessively.
