Our HR team dropped the news today—our new project leader was finally joining us. On the surface, everyone looked busy at their desks, but our private group chats were blowing up.
"OMG, have you heard? The new project director is supposedly a total hottie!"
"Right?! Rumor has it he studied in Frankston, just got back, and he's six-foot-one!"
Someone slipped in a photo.
"Snapped this on the DL. Thoughts? Hot or not?"
I clicked open the image—a sneaky side profile shot through the blinds. His nose was sharp, his skin flawless. That unfairly perfect face made everything else in the frame fade into a blur, like he was the only thing in focus.
I couldn't help but chime in. "Okay, yeah, he's definitely easy on the eyes. Just looking at him might cure my Monday blues. But what's his temper like?"
"Seriously! If he's got a nasty streak, no amount of pretty will save him. Fingers crossed he's not a nightmare to work with!"
Right as the chat was heating up, the office door swung open. The HR lady waltzed in, grinning like she'd just won the lottery. "Team, gather up! Meet your new project director."
Behind her, a tall man stepped in—crisp suit pants hugging a lean, athletic frame. His sharp features were softened slightly by rimless glasses, giving off this polished, effortless vibe.
He offered a polite smile. "Hello, everyone. I'm Edward Scott."
Edward Scott?
Hearing that name—so familiar yet distant—I froze mid-motion, my chair half-pushed back.
My eyes snapped up, landing on a face that had aged but was unmistakable.
For a heartbeat, time stopped.
Him?
Beside him, our manager, Liam Murray, practically leaped to his feet, hand outstretched.
"Mr. Scott! Liam Murray, head of Cost Control and Procurement," he gushed, oozing charm. "Such an honor to have someone of your caliber joining us!"
As the department's deputy, I scrambled to follow suit, stepping forward.
"Mr. Scott, Yuna White—deputy in Cost Control and Procurement."
Maybe it was my imagination, but his gaze held on me a beat too long before flickering away.
