I walked past the deserted classroom, the sounds inside muffled and indistinct. A slight turn of my head, and through the gap in the curtains, my eyes locked with Parker's.
There he was, pinning a girl against the desk.
But the second he glanced up, he saw me.
And just like that, I knew—I'd earned another black mark in his book.
The school's golden girl, Parker's girlfriend, had always been second in our grade—and my classmate. But after getting with Parker, her grades started slipping. Badly.
It didn't take long for the teachers to notice.
They pulled me aside. "Has she been acting off lately? Or hanging around the wrong crowd?"
I shrugged. "No idea."
But secrets never stay buried.
Somehow, word got out that I'd been questioned.
Parker and the school beauty's little scandal blew up. His parents found out, and his hot-tempered father dragged him home for a beating.
That same day, my house was empty.
Parker kicked my door in.
"Underestimated you," he spat.
He shoved me—hard. I stumbled back, slamming into the desk. The drawer jerked open, spilling its contents across the floor.
Parker's grip on my wrist went slack.
Because there, lying between us, was a light pink love letter.
My name. His name.
And handwriting he knew all too well.
