His expression darkened slightly, but he didn't get angry. "Not hungry? Then we'll eat later. I'll take you to see the rose garden."
Next to the villa was a massive rose garden, but there were no flowers yet, only hundreds of rose trees freshly planted in neat rows. Sheldon rolled up his sleeves. He dug, planted and watered, all while reminiscing about their past. "They're all your favorite varieties. I had them shipped here just yesterday. You used to cherish that sea of flowers I planted for you. This time, I'll plant another one. Once they bloom, it'll be even more beautiful."
Briella watched Sheldon from afar, seeing a rare moment of calmness in him. She softened her tone, trying to reason with him. "Sheldon, we can't go back to the past. Let's let each other go, okay? I understand it's been five years. You couldn't accept losing me. Your pride and possessiveness as a man won't allow it. But what's the point of all this? You have a bright future in Jorbridge. Celia is waiting for you. You two are engaged, aren't you? You love her, don't you?"
Sheldon put down the watering can and walked over, kneeling at her feet. "I was never engaged to Celia. Baby, I'm an adult. I know what love is. Even if it took me five years to realize it, I'm certain now, the one I love is you. I admit my past mistakes and I'm doing my best to make up for them. Let's be together. I'll hold an art exhibition for you, start a company and give you anything you want."
Briella interrupted him. "But I don't love you anymore."
Sheldon enclosed her hand in his. "I don't believe that! Baby, you love me. You will love me."
Briella was furious and turned to leave. She wandered the island for hours, but there was no way out. When she returned, Sheldon had already prepared dinner. "This island belongs to us alone. Without my helicopter, there's no way for you to leave."
Briella clenched her fists, cursing herself for not hiding a phone in her wedding dress. If she had, she wouldn't be trapped here, helpless and alone. Sheldon pulled out a chair for her, but she didn't move. His patience started to wear thin. "Baby, I suggest you stop fighting me. If you starve yourself to death, I'll make sure your grandfather joins you."
Her eyes widened in shock. "Do you even have a shred of humanity left?"
Sheldon remained indifferent, handing her a bowl of soup. "If you want me to, I can."
In other words, if she resisted, he would follow through on his threat. Briella trembled with rage. She should've known that he had never been a good person. Five years ago, he had built an entire villa and woven an intricate web of lies to take his revenge on her. Five years later, he caused chaos at her wedding, kidnapped her and imprisoned her on an isolated island. He was a complete and utter madman.
Briella's whole body shook with fury, her teeth clenched so hard they nearly cracked. "Sheldon, I hate you!"
His hand trembled slightly, spilling soup onto the floor. "It's fine. I love you."
