The results of the International Oil Painting Competition were announced the same day Briella returned to college to continue her studies. Jared sighed regretfully. "You were the top favorite to win. What a shame."
Briella didn't seem to mind. "There will be plenty of opportunities." This time, no one would disrupt her life. Four years of university passed in a flash. Briella had been quietly honing her skills and when it was time for the graduation exhibition, her painting the Awakening took everyone by surprise.
The piece had a dark tone overall, yet it radiated life from within. Both the brushwork and artistic conception were at a masterful level. People started digging up her past works and before long, her name was once again a hot topic in the art world. Even those outside the industry caught wind of her story.
"Wait, isn't she the eldest daughter of the Jacquins from Jorbridge? She was a genius since childhood."
"After the Jacquins went bankrupt, she completely disappeared. I thought she gave up, but turns out she was preparing for a comeback."
"Some people are just born for this. Life threw everything at her, yet she still shines at the top."
Briella frowned as she read the comments. After her family's downfall, she had indeed kept a low profile, but she hadn't vanished completely, had she? Besides, back when their assets were auctioned off, it was a public spectacle. The internet was flooded with discussions. Why did it seem like everyone online had lost their memory?
She refused to believe it was just a coincidence. Opening a search engine, she typed in keywords related to that past scandal, only to find nothing. It was as if someone had deliberately erased all traces. Not a single clue remained. Her first thought was her grandfather and uncle, but Jared said calmly, "They don't bother with domestic gossip. Whoever did this is from within the country."
There was only one person who would go to such lengths for her. Briella was stunned. Jared didn't elaborate. Instead, he changed the topic. "Any thoughts about your art exhibition?"
Artists needed to make a living, too and with her newfound fame, a touring exhibition was the obvious next step. Briella had plenty of ideas. It took a full week of discussions before they finalized the plan. The moment the theme was announced, her agent came rushing in, practically glowing with excitement. "Jacquin, we hit the jackpot!"
At that moment, Briella was wearing an apron, a paintbrush in one hand and a palette in the other. Her long hair was tied up and streaks of paint were smeared across her face. Without looking up, she asked, "What happened?"
"We just landed the biggest sponsor ever! They're fully funding the exhibition with no budget limit!"
Briella bent over to add a stroke of color. "Sounds like a scam. Be careful, the art world is full of traps."
Her agent beamed. "No way! I have checked, they're the real deal. This company has serious backing and guess what? There's something even crazier. Take a guess!"
Briella wasn't particularly interested. "Just tell me."
