I woke up in the hospital.
Jeremy was still in the same clothes.
The collar of his shirt,wrinkled by my grip,was wide open,revealing suggestive red marks all over his collarbone and neck.
Even his Adam's apple bore a hickey.
The scene in the car flashed through my mind and I silently pulled the blanket higher,covering myself.
Damn it!How could I have done that to my uncle?
Judging by his expression,he didn't seem angry.
Then let's just pretend it never happened!
I made up my mind,thinking about what to say to ease the awkwardness.
However,Jeremy yanked the blanket away the next moment,shattering my hope that we could ignore what happened.
"You were bold as brass when being a rogue;now you know to be shy?"
I clutched the blanket with both hands."If I said I don't remember,would you believe me?"
Jeremy countered with a question,"What do you think?"
Okay,he didn't believe me.
I tried to explain,"I didn't mean to take advantage of you;I was drugged."
Jeremy hummed in acknowledgment.
When I thought the matter could be covered,he changed the subject,"But it is a fact that you have tarnished my innocence."
What a completely unwarranted accusation!I blurted out,"Nothing ever happened between us!"
I instantly regretted it.
Because I saw the smirk tug at the corners of his lips,teasing and knowing.Meanwhile,his eyes were sparkling with mischief.
"Sounds like you're quite disappointed."
I felt utterly wronged."Not at all!"
He nodded seriously."Well,I am."
Then why did you choose to be a gentleman back then?
That question circled on my tongue,but I swallowed it down.
However,Jeremy seemed to see right through my thoughts and said thoughtfully,"I could have taken advantage of the situation,but that wouldn't have been fair to you."
"I hope that Sharon can willingly give herself to me when she's completely sober."
His confession-like words left me speechless.
Jeremy asked a little nervously,"Did I scare you?"
I shook my head.
How did I even explain this?
He's always treated me so well.Of course,I've wondered if it was because he liked me.
Still,to hear him actually say it felt surreal.
Jeremy let out a relieved breath."As long as I didn't scare you.Then it's settled."
Huh?What's settled?
I looked utterly lost.
Jeremy stated matter-of-factly,"You were all over me,kissing and touching.As compensation,give me a chance to pursue you."
He truly lived up to his businessman's reputation,knowing exactly how to seize an opportunity.
I wanted to say that I had no plans for a relationship shortly,but he spoke before I could.
"Pursuing you doesn't mean you have to agree immediately.It's just to let you know that I like you.Consider me in line.When you're ready for a relationship,you can prioritize me."
With him putting it this way,refusing would make me seem ungrateful.
Going from uncle to potential boyfriend was a weird shift.
However,I wasn't opposed to it.
It should count as a good start.
Jeremy called the doctor and had me examined again.
During this time,his phone kept ringing about matters concerning Felton Corporation.
He didn't answer,gazing at the doctor while waiting for the results.
I felt bad."Uncle,you should go.I'll be fine.I'll head home once the doctor clears me."
Jeremy hesitated for a moment before leaving two bodyguards to protect me."Then I'll head over there first.Call me if anything happens."
He looked back several times as he left,his reluctance making me amused and touched.
It had been a long,long time since anyone cared about me like this.
Half an hour later,the test results came back;the drugs in my system had been completely cleared.
I put on the new clothes that had been delivered and got out of bed to go home.
Unexpectedly,I ran into Thomas just as I exited the hospital doors.
