Thomas was waiting at the research institute entrance after work,holding a bouquet.
When he saw me,his eyes lit up like a starving dog that had spotted a bone.
However,a second later,that excitement turned into pure rage.
"What the hell is on your neck?Did you sleep with Jeremy?"
Jeremy was very energetic last night and I was hurrying to go out this morning.
If he hadn't said it,I wouldn't have remembered that Jeremy had bitten my neck.
Still,I didn't plan to cover it up.
"Why are you yelling?We're adults in a relationship.Having a sex life isn't exactly shocking."
Thomas looked like a husband who'd just caught his wife cheating."You're with him now?"
"Sharon,how could you?I forbid you to be with him.Break up with him.Right now!"
I let out a cold laugh."Are you giving me orders now,Thomas?Who do you think you are?"
His anger eased slightly.Maybe he finally remembered why he was here.
He took a deep breath and handed me the flowers.
"Sharon,I'm sorry.I lost it.I'm not trying to command you.I'm begging you.Please leave Jeremy and come back to me."
"Without you,I've been a complete wreck.I'm barely alive.I still love you.You still love me,too.Don't you?"
I took the flowers and threw them straight into the trash before him.
"I don't.Even looking at you makes me sick."
Thomas shook his head in disbelief."No.You still love me.You must love me.You're just angry right now."
"Then here,take it out on me.Stab me.Keep stabbing until you're not mad anymore."
As he spoke,he pulled out a knife and shoved it into my hand,guiding it straight to his chest.
Before I could even react,the blade had already gone in.
Blood started gushing out.I jumped back,shocked."Thomas,are you out of your mind?"
He grabbed my hand,pulled the knife out and smiled."Feel better now?"
My hand trembled and I couldn't speak.
He thought I still wasn't satisfied.He held my hand tighter and stabbed himself again.
I screamed and tried to let go,but he wouldn't release me.
He stabbed himself four times in total.
Blood pooled around our feet.His face had gone ghostly pale.
My voice was trembling."You're insane,absolutely insane!"
His eyes started to lose focus."Are you still mad,Sharon?Please,don't be mad anymore."
All his strength was concentrated in his hand.
When he was about to stab the fifth time,his wrist was suddenly grabbed by someone.
He winced in pain and loosened his grip,the knife falling to the ground.
I stumbled backward in a panic,straight into Jeremy's arms.
He pulled me close,shielding my eyes with his hand.His voice was cold and firm."Mr.Sullivan,you're scaring my girlfriend."
Thomas didn't even look at him.He just stared at me,desperate."Sharon,please forgive me.Let's go back to the way things were."
Still shaken,I screamed,"Get the hell away from me!"
Jeremy held me tighter,gently patting my back to soothe me.
"Thomas,if Sharon hadn't told me to keep you alive while she investigates what really happened to her parents,you'd be rotting in a ditch like your pathetic excuse for a company."
"This is your first and last warning.Stay the hell out of her life."
Jeremy didn't say anything harsher.
He held me close,leading me away from Thomas's sight step by step.
Thomas weakly called out,"Sharon,I'm dying.Are you really not going to care about me?"
I didn't look back.I left him bleeding out on the blood-stained pavement.
