Thomas'voice echoed in my ears as I stared at the ruined wedding dress,my heart pounding like a drum.
I truly felt like Thomas had lost his mind.
When Jeremy rushed over after hearing the news,I was in the middle of discussing whether to repair the dress or just order a new one with the staff.
He pulled me aside and gave me a full once-over,frantic with guilt.
"This is all my fault! Why did I go to that meeting?I should've been here with you."
I patted his back gently."It's fine.We had bodyguards,didn't we?"
Ever since the proposal,he'd spent far more time with me than at work and the senior executives were already starting to grumble.
While I loved having him by my side,I couldn't let him become the subject of gossip.
I picked up the shredded wedding dress and pouted."It's ruined. What should we do?"
Jeremy hesitantly said,"We'll get a new one custom-made."
I winced."That's going to cost a fortune."
He let out a cold laugh."If someone deliberately destroys someone else's property, they must pay for it."
In other words,he was ready to make Thomas pay for this.
This wedding dress's embroidery was handmade and the diamonds were of the highest quality, making it worth tens of millions.
With Thomas's situation,he couldn't afford to pay.
However,he still had property.
Jeremy acted swiftly and decisively.Within a week,Thomas was homeless.
Still,he made sure the nanny received a generous sum to take good care of the child.
The nanny took Hunter back to her home and Thomas didn't even ask about her.
Jeremy told me everything in detail.Aside from feeling sorry for the child,I felt nothing else.
Half a month later, the new wedding dress arrived. It was even more exquisite than the one that had been destroyed.
Jeremy accompanied me to the fitting.
Inside the dressing room, the shop assistants showered me with compliments.
"Miss Sloan, you look absolutely stunning!Anyone who didn't know better would think an angel had descended."
"It's truly made for you.It suits you perfectly,Miss Sloan.Even as a woman,my heart is moved."
Embarrassed by their praise,I quickly asked them to draw back the curtain.
Just then,Jeremy turned around.
In the next moment,he froze.
I was a little nervous."Does it look bad?"
Jeremy snapped out of his daze, his eyes filled with admiration."It's breathtaking."
I breathed a sigh of relief."Really?"
Jeremy walked over and gently held my waist."I've never seen such a beautiful Sharon Sloan.I might not even want you to walk down the aisle at the wedding."
The shop assistants giggled, covering their mouths.
My ears flushed slightly and I playfully nudged him twice.
After the fitting,Jeremy rushed back to the company for a meeting.
I went out for a stroll with the bodyguards.
As I was planning to head home,I received a call from an unfamiliar number.
The voice on the other end was rough and hoarse."Sharon, you're investigating the real cause of your parents'death, aren't you?"
My heart clenched."Who is this?"
"I'm the driver from the accident back then.Your parents'death wasn't an accident."
Eight years ago,the driver was supposedly drunk.
He confessed and showed remorse,so he only got two years.
Strangely,he had disappeared after his release.
It wasn't until I saw Thomas's diary that I realized that the car accident was clearly murder.
I had been searching for him.
"I have the evidence you want."
I gripped my phone even tighter."What do you want?"
"One million."
Someone who had been hiding for years suddenly coming forward was likely after money.
This demand was not unexpected.
"Also,I don't want to expose myself. You have to come alone."
As long as I had the evidence,I could avenge my parents.
Without a second thought,I agreed.
He sent me an address less than ten kilometers from where I was.
Before leaving,I told Jeremy about it.
The bodyguards were hidden in an ordinary car, following me.
The meeting spot was a secluded mountain resort. The man texted me and I followed his directions into a dimly lit room.
He was thin, wearing a hat and standing in the shadows.I couldn't see his face clearly.
I cautiously asked,"Are you the driver?"
He took off his hat and looked up.A familiar face stared back at me.
It was Thomas.
He grinned."Sharon, you're so easy to fool."
Everything clicked."There was no driver. It was all fake."
Thomas sneered."That's right.I made it up.He died years ago."
A chill ran down my spine.I turned to leave.
Alas, before I could get away,Thomas lunged forward and pressed a towel to my mouth.
Two seconds later,everything went black.
