When I woke up again,I was in an abandoned warehouse.
My hands and feet were tied behind a chair and Thomas was pouring gasoline around me.
The sharp, choking smell jolted me fully awake.I started to struggle.
He tossed the gas can aside and said, almost gently,"Don't bother. You're not getting out of that."
"Thomas, what are you trying to do?"
He reached out and caressed my face, his touch disturbingly tender.
"Of course,I want to be with you forever. But I can't afford a pink diamond or a million-dollar wedding dress."
"So,what should I do,Sharon?Tell me,what should I do?"
As he spoke,he pulled out a lighter.
"I thought about it over and over. There's only one way.We die together."
"That way,we'll be together forever.Isn't that what you wanted?"
He leaned down and kissed my cheek.A wave of terror surged through me.
At that moment,I knew he was completely unhinged.
I tried to keep my voice calm."Thomas,please.You need to calm down. This is a crime!"
He burst out laughing.
"I'm about to die and you think I care about breaking the law?Besides, haven't I already committed enough crimes?"
"When your parents didn't approve of me and Yolanda being together,I hired someone to run them down."
"Yeah,that was a crime.So what?"
"Jennie said Yolanda would've survived that car crash eight years ago,but she bribed a doctor to finish the job,to strangle her while she was still alive."
"I found that doctor.Locked her and Jennie in a room.Let them starve to death."
"That was also a crime,so what?"
"They all deserved it!"
That man spoke of the past casually,as if human lives were worthless.
His crazed appearance was like that of a heinous demon.
I felt a chill run through me,the cold seeping into every inch of my skin.
However,I couldn't provoke him.
I swallowed hard and offered insincere comfort.
"It's okay,Thomas. These things can be made up for if you don't keep making mistakes."
Thomas didn't listen at all.
I felt like I had been locked inside an igloo and I tried a different approach."Think about your son!Hunter,he's only eight years old."
"He's already lost his mother. If he loses you,his father, what will he do?"
Thomas paused for a moment.
The next second,he lit the lighter.
"He'll have his own destiny."
"Sharon, there's no need to say anymore.Today, this fire will be our wedding."
His palm tilted and I screamed,"Don't!"
I seemed to hear the sound of the engine in the distance.
I spoke faster,"Thomas,I forgive you!Let me go,let's go back and be together,okay?"
Thomas was ecstatic."Really?"
I nodded frantically."Really, really!Let me go first and we can talk things through."
"I promise I'll get back together with you. We'll get married and be together forever!"
Thomas turned around behind me to untie the ropes.
My heart was about to leap out of my chest.
However,he leaned close to my ear the next moment and chuckled.
"Sharon,it's too late."
Before I could react,he dropped the lighter.
The gasoline ignited instantly upon contact with the flame and the fire engulfed the entire warehouse at breakneck speed.
Thomas hugged me tightly, his voice like a venomous snake.
"Sharon Sloan,I love you."
