"Oh yes. Just what I needed today."
Rain was nice. Yuki loved when it rained.
He just didn't particularly like it when he had to venture into it.
"Yuki!" Uraraka almost screamed upon seeing him.
"Morning." Yuki nodded walking over to his seat.
"What happened? You're uniform is wet!"
"Let's just say I don't own anything for the rainy season." Yuki smiled apologetically.
In middle school he was usually already suspended for a week or two when it would rain daily. And if he did go to school when it rained he would also usually end up in a mud puddle and/or umbrella would go missing.
"Not even an umbrella?" Uraraka asked worryingly.
"I hardly ever needed one." he lied. But she obviously didn't know that.
"Good Morning, Everyone!" Iida announced with a greenette behind him.
"Morning, Iida." Yuki nodded, removing his blazer, sure enough it was very much drenched.
"It's different when they broadcast the matches on TV after all, huh? So many people talked to me on my way here!"
"Yeah, me too!"
"I had some elementary schoolers suddenly tell me 'Don't worry about it.'" Sero added.
"Don't worry about it." Tsuyu replied.
"AH!"
"Did people talk to you too, Yuki?" Uraraka asked.
"No."
"What really? You came in third though."
"I came to school on my scooter."
Yuki being the smart boy he was now had a hand towel draped over his head.
The front door suddenly opened and class 1A scrambled to their seats.
"Morning." Aizawa droned.
"Good morning!" the class replied.
Immediately Yuki noticed his homeroom teacher wasn't dressed as a mummy.
"Ribbit? Mr. Aizawa, your bandages are gone. I'm glad." Tsuyu spoke.
"The old lady went overboard with her treatment."
"Good." Yuki mumbled to himself.
"More importantly, we're having a special hero informatics class today."
Great...another test...
"Code names. You'll be coming up with hero names."
"We're gonna do something exciting!"
Yuki slammed his head on his desk. NOOOO!!
Class immediately went quiet at Aizawa's red eyes.
"This is related to the pro hero draft picks I mentioned the other day. The drafts begin in earnest in the second and third years, after students have gained experience and can become immediate assets to the pros. In other words, for them to extend offers to first years like you shows that they are interested in your future potential. These offers are often cancelled if that interest dies down by graduation."
"So we'll have to prove ourselves once we get picked, huh?" Hagakure asked.
"That's right. And here are the totals for those with offers."
Where at Bakugo and Todoroki were in the thousands. Yuki managed to get at least a couple 400.
"I feel bad." Yuki winced.
"In other years, it's been more spread out, but all eyes were on these two this year."
"Gah! There's such a big difference!" Kaminari whined.
"Those pros don't know good things when they see one!"
"Todoroki first, and Bakugo's second..." Jiro noted.
"It's the opposite of their placement in the sports festival." Kirishima added.
"Some people are too scared to ask for a guy who had to be restrained on the podium." Sero concluded.
"What're the pros scared of?!" Bakugo shouted.
Yeah, I can definitely see that. Yuki chuckled.
"Wow~ We got offers!" Uraraka tearfully shook Iida.
"Yes, Yes."
"Uraraka-san, you'll hurt his back..."
"Keeping these results in mind, whether or not anyone asked for you, you will all be participating in internships with pros." Aizawa continued.
"At USJ, you already got to experience combat with real villains, but it will still be meaningful training for you to see pros at work firsthand."
"So that's why we're getting hero names in our first year?" Yuki questioned no one in particular.
"Things are suddenly getting a lot more fun!" Uraraka playfully smacked Yuki's arm.
"Well, those hero names are still temporary, but if you're not serious about it--"
"You'll have hell to pay later!" The front door slammed opened.
"Because a lot of hero names used by students become recognized by society, and they end up becoming professional hero names!" Midnight explained.
"Well, that's how it is. So Midnight will be making sure your names are okay." Aizawa reached down and pulled up his sleeping bag. "I can't do stuff like that."
His hero name is Eraserhead... Did he come up with it?
"When you give yourself a name, you get a more concrete image of what you want to be like in the future, and you can get closer to it. This is what it means when they say, "Names and natures do often agree." Like "All Might," for example."
So name the person I want to become.
Yuki looked down at the white board and marker in his hands. He hadn't really thought of a hero name growing up. He didn't have any reason to. He hadn't want to become a hero--
"You can be my sidekick when we grow up then!"
Yuki snapped his head up to look for the familiar voice. Nothing.
It must have been in my head...
He glanced over at Uraraka who was basically glaring at her whiteboard.
"Ne, Yuki!"
"Yeah?"
"We're gonna need a hero name someday."
"But you already have on--"
"For you! You idiot."
"Oh."
"Do you have anything in mind?"
"No, it's not like I'll become a her--"
"NO! You need one! You're going to save lots and lots of people!"
Yuki looked up at the clear blue sky.
"Then you can give me one."
"Huh?! You want me to do all the work?"
"You're smarter than me. You can come up with something."
"Bribing me with compliments won't work."
"...please."
"...Yuki."
"Yes?"
"I'm gonna need two packs of fruit snacks then."
Yuki couldn't see the grin on their face but he was sure it was there because the next thing he felt was a smile grow on his own.
"Okay!"
"Then, I read in one of my nee-chan's books, a name. It was a very pretty name."
"Pretty?"
"Yeah! It totally fits you. I think it does anyways. You're too kind and soft hearted."
Yuki could feel his ears burn.
"See! Your ears are red!" The voice laughed.
"Just tell me already. Geez..."
"Okay, okay. Then how about--"
"Okay, let's start presenting names starting with those who are ready." Midnight's voice snapped Yuki back to the present.
"We're presenting?" He sighed.
I'd forgotten about them...and now?
He felt as though something was twisting his heart.
"Here I go..."Shining Hero: I can not stop twinkling"! Which means, you can't stop my sparkles!" Aoyama shouted.
"It'll be easier to use it if you take out the 'I' and shorten the 'can not' to 'can't.'" Midnight suggested.
"You're right, mademoiselle."
"Then, I"ll go next!" Ashido jumped to the front.
Yuki could only look down at his whiteboard.
Can I still call myself that? Am I allowed?
"Hero name, 'Alien Queen'!"
"Are you trying for the thing with acidic blood? I wouldn't, if I were you!"
"Dang it."
"Then, may I go next?"
"What if I don't wanna use the hero name anymore?" Yuki had asked.
It was quiet and watched as someone next to him began picking at the dirt.
"I don't really care. But it'll hurt my feelings!" they dramatically threw their head back, 'sobbing' for more effect.
"Alright, alright. I guess I'll use it until we retire."
"Retire?"
"Yeah."
"I'm not gonna retire. I'm gonna save as many people as I can. Even if my hip breaks in the process."
"Rainy Season Hero: Froppy."
"That's so cute! It seems friendly. I like it!"
"Friendly, huh?" Yuki sighed before smiling fondly at the name his dear friend had once given him.
"Then me too! 'Sturdy Hero: Red Riot'!"
"Red Riot? You're paying homage to the Chivalrous Hero: Crimson Riot, right?"
"Yes, It's pretty old-fashioned, but the hero image I'm going for is Crimson himself."
Yuki pulled open the marker and carefully wrote down the name.
"If you're bearing a name you admire, it'll come with that much more pressure." She warned.
"I'm prepared for that!"
"Hearing Hero: Earphone Jack."
"Tentacle Hero: Tentacole."
"Taping Hero: Cellophane."
"Martial Arts Hero: Tailman."
"PINKY!!"
"Stun Gun Hero: Chargebolt."
"Stealth Hero: Invisible Girl!"
"Everything Hero: Creati."
"Shoto."
"Your name? Is that okay?"
"Yeah."
Yuki continued to stare at the name, not completely sure if he should.
"Jet-Black Hero: Tsukuyomi."
"Fresh-Picked Hero: Grape Juice!"
"King Explosion Murder."
This caught the healers attention.
"You probably shouldn't use something like that."
"Why not?!"
"You should be 'Explosion Boy'!" Kirishima shouted.
"Shut up, Weird Hair!"
"Okay, my turn..." Uraraka stood from her seat.
Yuki watched his friend go up and present.
"This is what I thought of: 'Uravity.'"
Oh, that's fitting.
He marked out the name written with his finger. Then he imagined it when it was used to address him. He thought of how they'd insisted it was fitting. He thought of how he wasn't fit for the name then. But maybe it would eventually...
This is a name for the person I want to become.
"Choosing hero names is going more smoothly than I thought it would! All that's left is Bakugo, who needs to rethink his, Iida, Satori, and Midoriya, right?"
Yuki flinched at his name a bit.
"Tenya? You're using your first name, too?"
Yuki went to stand but Midnight had called onto Midoriya.
"Mirodiya!"
"Are you okay with that?"
Yuki felt like facepalming.
"You might be called that forever, you know."
"Yeah. I didn't like the name until now. But someone changed the meaning of it, and that had a huge impact on me. It made me really happy."
Unconsciously Yuki turned to Uraraka who looked really touched.
"This is my hero name!"
It's your fault Uraraka-san. He'll forever be known as Deku. OF ALL THINGS! I hope your proud of him, Toshinori-san.
Yuki sighed. It was his turn for sure.
"Satori-kun~ It's your turn!" Midnight called.
"Yeah..."
Yuki stood up and walked to the front of the class.
"I still don't think it fits me."
"Liar! You just don't see what I see. Plus you already gave me two of your fruit snacks so that means you have to use it. No take back!"
"That's not how--"
"I said what I said young man!"
"Young man?"
"Silence! Now, we must go patrol the park for those who need help!
"You're the one causing troub--"
"Shush my trusty sidekick--"
"Healing Hero: Caladrius."
