N-no way. It wasn't him at all.
Yuki thought, speed walking back home.
Did the cashiers see anything? Am I beginning to see things? I know i didn't sleep well last night but that was one night-
Yuki stopped walking. He stood still trying to let his head comprehend the thoughts running miles through his brain.
"I mean," he thought about it for another minute before he began walking again, this time at a slower pace.
"It's not entirely impossible." Turning a corner he thought about what type of quirks would allow that to be possible.
"Inflation?" He questioned out loud reaching his door.
No, not quite.
Yuki decided to ignore what he had just seen and had dinner delivered for the night before resuming his studies of the human body.
Yuki's quirk allowed him to heal almost any living thing. Reptiles, sea life and plants in general proved more difficult. Mammals were the simplest to heal. And he could not, what so ever heal insects.
It had taken him a while to figure out the more specifics he knew about any injury the faster he could heal. A broken bone? Cool. Was it greenstick? Spiral? He had to know as much as a doctor knew if he wanted to improve the speed at which he was healing.
Maybe it wasn't that he passed out after those 5 patients. Maybe there was a time limit. It had taken him 12 hours to help the surgical doctor in the operation room. He had asked to help so he could test his limits. 12 hours and 5 intense surgeries later he passed out. He woke up 28 hours later with the most painful headache he'd experience.
But that was 2 years ago. Ever since then upon discovering he could heal quicker with more medical knowledge, he threw himself into intense studying.
He started with the basics. Blood vessels, muscles, bones, and external injuries. Then the internal organs, their tissues, the functions and what type of damages it could get. The heart, lungs, brain, and spine were the main ones he focused on going deeper into studying them and sometimes even popping in at the morgue to ask if he could inspect the bodies.
No normal 15 year old would do that...
Thanks to the doctors and interning medical students he was able to lay his hand on some school textbooks ONLY for medical students. He had been approached by plenty of people asking for assistance on certain patients but he was still a student. Plus he had to keep himself in good health at all times specifically 48hrs before a grand healing session.
He's a high maintenance person just because of his quirk. Had he had a different one he wouldn't even be agreeing to U.A. or eating the healthiest meals he takes hours to prepare.
It's a pain. But it's worth it.
Looking up from the textbook he saw it was 3:55 AM.
I should probably place my order online...
Yuki slowly stood up from his wheely chair and stretched followed by a couple of cracking joints.
Humans? Check.
Yuki walked over to his bedroom and began to change into his sweats and fuzzy socks.
Reptiles? Or Mammals?
He threw his dirty clothes at the basket and opened his closet.
"I have to visit the vet. I haven't gone in a while..."
Mammals it is. But coffee first.
"Ah, that's right." Yuki recalled.
There was nothing in the cabinets...
Why is the world so cruel to me!
He let out a heavy sigh and settled for a glass of cold water and some veggie chips he knew weren't as healthy as advertised. But it would trick his brain so it'll do.
Yuki sat on the kitchen's marble island. He was lucky a world famous doctor (as famous a doctor could be overseas) had taken pity on him and adopted him. He only showed up twice a year, two weeks each.
He didn't mind. Or pay attention to it for that matter. He was just glad he finally had a safe place available for him.
During that entire week Yuki made sure to plan out the rest of the ten months leading up to the U.A. exams. Sure he had gotten kicked out of school just before the first term was over but that didn't mean he could slack off. As much as he wanted to.
He made sure to fill up his week with work. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays he would go to children's hospitals from 9am to 8pm. Tuesdays and Thursdays he would go work with veterinarians from 10am to 5pm. And he would take the weekends off. Of course he had given his number the surgical doctors and to call him if there was an emergency. He would try to get there as fast as he could.
Three main hospitals. Two children's hospitals and he would bounce around the animal shelters taking a look at them. Yup. that sounds exactly what a 14 year old would be doing for his summer...
He didn't mind. He found it draining, sure but if he had to choose over junk food it would save people's lives. He would give up the unhealthy lifestyles his peers had.
He went to the gym three times a week Wed, Fri, and Sun to use their pool. It was one form of exercise he didn't mind doing. He would meditate. Do some yoga. And every now and then use the gymnastics part of the gym after his swim.
If his body refused to buff up like the rest of those super teens, he would have to put up with it and take advantage of it. He liked almost being able to bend his body in weird ways. It always made him smile for some reason.
During the fall season he made sure to sign up for defence classes and went after his work during the week. The instructor always seemed to be punching him to do better than others.
Just wait until I drop you. Yuki would curse every time he was thrown to the floor by others also taking the course.
It was winter. Yuki loved the snow. He loved going outside and just staring up at the sky as it fell onto his face. Each flake melted too quickly.
These next two days were his cheat days. A grin grew on his face as he got closer to his favorite cafe that made his favorite pudding.
"Welcome- Oh! I was wondering when you would be coming around," a young lady probably only 3 or 4 years older than him greeted Yuki.
"Was I being expected?" Yuki asked playfully.
"Well, gramps said you would be stopping by any time now," she explained bashfully.
"There he is!" a raspy voice shouted. An old man came out in a rush.
"Sato-san! Come quickly before he makes a run for it!" Yuki smiled nervously.
"Oji-san, is there something I could-"
"Silence! She happen to make extra food and with you living on your own-"
"Oh no that's not necessary!" Yuki waved his hands as a woman came out with what looked like a huge bento box.
"Please take it," Sato-san urged poor Yuki who just couldn't reject the elderly people.
"I can't-"
"Nonsense boy! This is the most we can do to help advertise our place!" the old man laughed, slapping Yuki on the back.
"Now, are you taking the pudding to go or are you going to stay?" sighing in defeat, he glanced over to the huge bento box.
"I think I'll eat here for today, sir."
"Same thing as always? I'll even throw in an extra dessert!"
Yuki could already imagine the pain he would be later that night from the amount of food these nice people who supply him with.
"Here's you pudding,"
"Thank you," Yuki smiled.
"Your coffee will be out in a minute. Is there any specific dessert you would like?"
Yuki looked up towards the waitress. "He wasn't kidding was he?"
"I'm afraid not." she replied, both sweat dropping as the old man didn't bother to hide his eagerness to prepare him a special dessert.
"I'll take the best you can make, Oji-san!" Yuki shouted towards the kitchen.
"Is that a challenge?!"
"Bring it!" Yuki chuckled.
He'd gotten close to the owner of the place after showing up too many times a week. The people who worked there, knew him, a few by name but mostly based on his appearances. And the old man being a little noisy, he managed to get Yuki to spill about his living conditions. Living alone. Being homeschooled (he kinda lied to avoid further questions) and his volunteering work at the hospitals.
You don't get paid?! The old man had shouted upon hearing he was doing things because he wanted.
"He's your coffee, sweetie." Sato-san announced placing his drink down.
"Thank you, it looks delicious as always." Yuki complimented.
"So how are studies coming along? I heard exams are only in a couple months,"
"Yeah," Yuki sighed, "They're coming along well."
"Welcome to Cafe Motif!"
"Wow~ this must be the new place Inko was talking about!"
Yuki took out his notebook and a printed copy of a chapter from a medical textbook one of the interns had been able to get a hold off before returning it. Scribbling onto his notebook and flipping through the pages, he made sure to mark where he had found the information for future reference, he hadn't heard the family that sat just on the next table.
"Oh my! Are you a medical student?" a woman asked, causing Yuki to let out a yelp and hit his knee on the small table.
"W-what?" he asked now looking at the woman who had asked him.
"You look a bit young to be a medical student,"
"I'm not really a medical student." Yuki cleared his throat. "Not yet at least. I'm only 14."
"14?!" the blonde woman gasped.
"Oi, old hag you're making him uncomfortable." her son spoke, Yuki guessed.
"What are you doing studying during the holidays? Are your parents okay with you staying out this late?"
Yuki raised an eyebrow looking down at his watch, "It's only 10:45-"
"He just got off from working at the hospital!"
"Working? Hospital?" the family asked.
"Yeah, he's been training his quirk for a long time now. He's trying to get into U.A!"
"S-sato-san," Yuki blushed a bit embarrassed.
Is this what it felt like to be praised around others?
"Oh! What a coincidence! Katsuki is also planning on taking the exams!" the mother replied proudly.
