"Yuki-chan, what do you want to be when you get old like Taka-kun?"
"I'm not old, SHITTY TENJI!"
"You're five years older, of course your ol--" a book slammed into his face.
"You're a bad influence for Yuki! Get out!"
"NO!"
Both turned their heads to Yuki. His grey eyes getting watery. "N-no fighting... Uncle Shin, stay!"
The child went to latch onto his uncle's pant leg.
"I protect Uncle Shin!"
"HA! Hear that Taka-kun!? I have Yuki-chan on my side." a grin widespread as he picked up Yuki.
"Shinomiya Tenji...." a shiver ran down both Yuki and his Uncle. "You dare turn my son against me...?"
"Uncle Shin...run." Yuki whispered.
A house was filled with thunderous footsteps followed. Shills of laughter echoing around their home.
"Help me catch Uncle Shin and it's pudding for dinner!"
"Ok."
"Yuki-chan!?"
"Change into your costumes and go to the orientation. Don't waste any more time." Aizawa announced.
"Yes, sir!"
Yuki picked up his hero costume case and walked to catch up to his little group.
"It's like... contact with people outside of school reminds me..."
"U.A. students are actually pretty famous, huh?"
Yuki frowned. He glanced back at Aizawa who was talking with Ms. Joke. Ms. Joke however had a concerned face and that was enough for Yuki to know.
Aizawa didn't tell them on purpose.
Yuki's new hero costume consisted of a skin tight, breathable black long sleeve shirt. Dark blue bullet proof vest with several pockets containing mostly first aid supplies. Green Multi pocket military cargo pants being held up with leg harnesses which go around his waist and around his thighs.
A green mask (kinda resembling Shinso's) that still works as a filter for just about anything. A Sage green protective eyewear, well made to work as an infrared/thermal and night vision. Dark Sage green fingerless metallic like glove on his left arm reaching below the elbow.
Because he's asked for it to automatically tell the heartbeat, temperature and blood type it was best he kept it on his non-dominant hand.
Kinda makes it look like I'm a cyborg...
He also had custom made tactical black boots capable of maneuvering around different areas, surfaces and contained steel toes and heals. Any part of him not already covered such as his right arm, elbows and knees was padded.
Yuki made sure to tie his hair up, a few of his front baby hairs falling in his face.
"Yuki-kun! You look like you're about to go to war." Uraraka smiled up at him.
"I do look cool don't I?" Yuki posed, playing along with Uraraka's fascination.
Yuki wasn't hard to spot. He was tall enough to practically elbow the majority of the people in the room in their face. So he kept his hands in his pockets. Making sure his retractable staff and small pocket knife he'd brought along were still his leg harness.
Soon the room was packed to the point that Yuki had to keep his left arm angles so as to not scratch Iida's costume.
"There are so many..." Midoriya pointed out the obvious, feeling nervous.
"What'd you expect? They only do this twice a year." Yuki replied.
"Um...Well then," a man's voice droned through the speakers.
Everyone turned to face the front. A ashy blond hair haired man slouching over the microphone.
"Let's start that provisional license thing...I'm Mera from the Heroes Public Safety Commision. The kind of sleep I like is non-REM sleep..." a feedback of the mic made Yuki wince.
"Nice to meet you.... I've been so busy that I haven't gotten much sleep... We're too short-staffed...."
You'd think there would be more people regulating the Heroes.
"I'm so sleepy, With that conviction, I'll give you the orientation."
Not bothering to hide his exhaustion...must be tough.
"About the content of the provisional license thing... Frankly, all 1,540 examinees here will have to win a free-for-all exercise."
Damn... there's that many.
"Seriously. That's not a lot to go on." Yuki overheard Sero who was a bit to his left.
"Our society is currently said to be saturated with heroes, and ever since Stain was arrested,"
Yuki threw Iida a side glance. To which the class rep noticed.
"Many have shown doubts about the current state of heroes."
With that leaked video of his capture, I wouldn't doubt many questioning it.
"Heroes shouldn't seek compensation. It must be a title given to those who have sacrificed all of themselves."
Or so he'd read in an article.
"Well, as a private citizen, no matter what the motivation, to tell someone risking their lives to save others not to seek any reward is... It's the ruthless story of these modern times. But anyway, whether it's for compensation or for loyalty and courage, the result of many heroes working hard together to help people and defeat villains is that right now, the time from when an incident begins to when it is resolved is so short that it'd make you sick."
Those are probably just counting incidents occurring in broad daylight.
"You all are about to receive your provisional licenses and finally throw yourselves into those rapids. Those who can't keep up with that speed frankly have it tough. Accordingly, what you'll be tested on is speed!"
The screen behind him changed.
"The first hundred to fulfill the requirements will pass."
Yuki whistled at how quick they would all be sorted.
"There are a total of 1,540 people taking the exam!" Yaomomo exclaimed. "Didn't they say half would pass...?"
"Aizawa-sensei most likely meant half of the class." Yuki pointed out.
"This means, less than 10% will actually pass..." Tsuyu spoke.
"I'm getting even more nervous!" Jiro shuddered.
"Well, a lot's happened out there in the world, and you know, about luck and everything..."
"I can't believe they're just letting anyone become a hero now!"
"Taka-kun, calm down."
"NO! They stood there and did nothing!"
"Papa..."
Takumi stopped pacing, looking down at his son. "Yuki, make sure you're careful with who you trust."
"Takumi! Stop. That was just one time of--"
"Of what?! Thousands? Hundreds? Fifty? What if it's actually 1 out of 5?! What then?!"
Yuki clutched onto his Uncle's leg in worry. He was sure it would have been him had his Papa not noticed.
"Yuki-chan. It's okay now. You're here with us." his uncle knelt down to the same eye level.
"We won't let any scary people take yo--"
"But they were nice." Yuki pointed out.
His papa and uncle turned to look at each other.
"Yuki." His papa also knelt down, a frightened face he'd never seen on him. At least not to that degree.
"Never. And I mean never. Go along with someone you don't know."
A hand cupped Yuki's face.
"Do you understand?"
The little boy's lip began to tremble. "Y-yeah..."
The requirements were easy to understand. Three targets per person in an exposed area. Six balls per person. Hit all three targets on two people and you pass. Get all your own targets hit. You fail.
Pick your targets carefully. It's nothing like U.A. entrance exam. These can think and will strategically fight back.
"After we open, we'll pass out the targets and balls, and then we'll start one minute after we've gotten to everyone."
"Open?"
The room began to shake. Yuki grabbed onto Iida's arm. Looking up the ceiling was split in two and just like a few chinese take out boxes could, it unfolded. The walls collapsing and creating dust clouds.
"I believe you have a terrain that you like and dislike." the man continued. "Use your quirks to the best of your abilities."
"Wow, it's bigger than USJ." Yuki commented, releasing Iida.
"Anyway, we arranged for the terrain to be announced like that... But yeah, it's unnecessary."
I kinda want to know how they build this in a way for us to not notice...
The examinees receiving the necessary things were able to get a head start from the last of those with only one minute.
"They're all going in groups. Smart." Yuki commented. His voice was somewhat distorted from his mask.
He's placed one of his targets just below his left rib cage, one on his bottom right abdomen, and another on the side of his left thigh.
"Everyone, don't get too separated! Let's move as a group!" Deku shouted to the class.
"Okay."
"Yeah."
"Yeah right, this isn't a field trip!" Bakugo shouted, walking away.
"Try not to fail." Yuki smiled waving good-bye.
"AS IF!"
"Idiot, wait up!" Kirishima shouted, chasing after the angry blond.
"Kacchan!"
"Kirishima!" Kaminari went after the two.
"I'm going on my own, too." Todoroki spoke up, already far from the group. "It's hard for me to use my power in a big group."
"Todoroki!"
"Let them." Yuki told Deku.
"Midoriya, there's no time! Let's go!"
Yuki began to look around as the class ran away from where they were initially.
I'm so happy I trained with weights. This is a lot lighter than I thought it would be...
"In these situations it would be ideal to stick together." Yuki informed the class.
"Why?"
Deku quickly responded. "Because, you know! Everyone already knows what powers we have."
"They already know?"
"The sports festival!"
"Televised all across the country," Yuki snapped his head up to a cliff.
Thought I saw someone.
"They know strengths and can probably accurately guess weaknesses." Yuki continued.
"I think it'll end up being a battle between schools. Which means, they'll start thinking about which school to go after first." Deku concluded.
"Does that mean--"
"Don't tell me--"
A sound went off, "First test, start!"
Yuki slid to a stop as students lunged out from their hiding stop.
As though served on a silver platter.
A wicked grin grew on his face. Snapping his staff out and clutching onto the capture weapon around his neck.
"I saw it on TV! The super power that also destroys yourself!" the Shindo boy shouted.
"Well, if a nail sticks out, then you've gotta hammer it down!"
Orange orbs began to fly towards the group.
Yuki couldn't exactly dodge all of them so upon seeing Yaomomo spring up shields he hid behind alongside them.
"We're too scattered." Yuki pointed out.
"REGROUP!" His distorted voice shouted, loud and clear.
The rain of orange ords came to an end and the class returned to their huddled state. On guard.
Yuki spotted a few of the balls go into the ground.
"They're coming from below!" Yuki warned.
"Get back! I got this!" Jiro knelt down. "Sound Amplification Amplifier Jack: Heartbeat Distortion!"
The ground before them began to crumble upwards. Effectively forcing their fellow examinees to foot and taking out the balls from beneath.
"They're still coming!"
"Got it!" Yuki stepped forward, swinging his staff and hitting them away.
"There's still a stalemate in every quarter..." the man's voice from before announced. "No one has passed yet. Oh, when we get any reports, I will announce them all from this broadcasting area."
"Stalemate, huh?" Yuki returned his eyes upwards where most of them stood.
"Get away! Their defenses seem strong!" Yuki glanced at the Shindo boy.
Headgear similar to Uraraka. Joint support on arms. Heavy shoulder support.
"WATCH YOUR STEP!" Yuki screamed.
"Break!Maximum Force! Tremoring Earth!"
The ground began to crumble.
Tossing and separating everyone from class.
"Make sure you stay together!" He shouted one last time to the class. Hoping he's been loud enough.
He tactfully let himself fall onto the ground, wrapping his arms around as the rubble fell.
When he was in the clear he carefully stood up and looked around. None of his classmates were in the vicinity from what he could tell.
"Well, well, well, If it isn't the little bitch from middle school~"
Yuki snapped his head up towards a small cliff.
I should have known.
There stood Watanabe, the person who led to his expulsion.
"Who would have guessed you'd get into U.A.? Did they forget to do a background check?!"
Yuki firmly clutched onto his staff. Glaring up to the boy, "I wouldn't have guessed an idiot like you would want to become a hero."
The boy snarled, "Just because you got into the top hero school doesn't mean you get to forget your place."
"You have no control over me." Yuki replied gripping onto the scarf.
The boy smirked, cracking his knuckles. "We'll see about that."
"Oi! Watanabe!"
"Hey, Look what I found!"
Yuki glanced over to his right, it was one of his lackey's.
"I see you still have your little fan club following you." Yuki chuckled.
"Is that him?" the lackey replied.
"Yeah. It's him."
"Two against one huh?" Yuki got into stance. "Looks like I'll be passing after all."
"Get him!"
Both leapt forward. Watanabe from above and the other from his right. Flinging the captured weapon around Watanabe's leg he spun around and flung him towards the lackey, bringing them both down.
"Did you forget the bones I broke?" Yuki taunted. "Heard your dearest mother went to complain to the school board~"
The boys sprung back up before coming to Yuki from different sides. Watanabe was the first to go in for a punch. Yuki easily stepped aside before dropping and swinging his lag under the lackey. Taking the chance to quickly place three of the orange balls onto the targets.
"Out."
Just then his eyesight went out. "You can't dodge me this way."
Right. His quirk!
His head snapped towards the heavy footsteps before they completely stopped. Yuki went to jump out of the way but was tackled.
"I won't lose to a piece of trash!" Watanabe screamed.
Gritting his teeth, Yuki pushed him off. His eyesight returned.
"I COULD SAY THE SAME THING!" Yuki shouted, wrapping the boy who was the reason for his miserable days in middle school. He yanked the boy straight towards his knee before elbowing him from behind down.
Watanabe went to pull Yuki down from his legs, the healer's sight going away once more. But Yuki would have none of it. He kicked in a way where there was a loud snap and an anguish cry.
His eyesight returned. He quickly stepped away from Watanabe and pointed the end of his staff to the boy. He was clutching onto his broken arm.
"I won't let myself be pushed around by the likes of others." Yuki huffed.
He slowly went to walk over to him, pulling out the remainder of his orange balls. "You might have had your dad's and Dr. Young fooled we were friends at one point,"
Yuki placed the balls on the targets. Successfully passing.
He gipped onto the boys hair, hoisting him up to eye level "and you might have made middle school much more tormenting."
Yuki retracted his staff and proceeded to pull out his pocket knife. Watanabe's eye widening as Yuki placed it at his throat.
"But you and I know damn well, you were nothing but a fly of nuisances compared to everything else in my life."
"I'll tell my dad wha--"
"What you did to me?" Yuki interrupted, the coolness of the knife now on his neck.
"What a failure of normality they thought you'd be? Don't fucking make me laugh."
Yuki released him, letting him fall onto his broken arm.
"Tell Mr. Watanabe, Dr. Young and I said 'Hi.' And let him know I'm doing better."
Watanabe went to sit up, hissing at the pain. "I'll tell him you're still as crazy as before."
Yuki looked around for a stick. "Sure. While you're at it let him know how I'm in U.A. I'm sure he'll be happy."
Yuki found a decent looking stick, picked it up and walked back to him. "If I can get a psychological evaluation I'll be able get Dr. Young to believe I'm fine."
He brought the pocket knife to the scarf and cut a good portion of it off. "You're dad might have helped me start a new life, and I'm thankful,"
Yuki roughly grabbed onto Watanabe's broken arm, lined up a stick against it and began to wrap it.
"But believing his stupid son could be friends with someone like me," he tightened the scarf, Watanabe letting out a cry of pain. "Was a mistake."
Yuki went to stand back up. He removed his mask and let out a heavy sigh, nodding in the direction of the knockout lackey. "You're both out and injured."
"You were with him longer than a year, weren't you?" Watanabe asked. "My dad told me you were only there for a year."
Yuki looked down at him. There was a sense of distance in his eyes.
"Maybe."
"For more than half of my career~"
"Have you heard from him?"
Yuki frowned. "Why would I?"
"They told dad he's been trying to contact you."
A wave of terror flooded through Yuki.
"He said they keep mentioning something about an 'Anniversary.' Do you know anything?"
"I'm not old, SHITTY TENJI!"
"You're five years older, of course your ol--" a book slammed into his face.
