"What? Really?!" Sato- san exclaimed placing someone's order on their table.
"Sato-san, please..." Yuki begged softly. He didn't like getting attention about things he knew the majority of people would do if they had the chance.
"Yuki-kun, don't be rude." she scolded playfully.
Grumbling a few sentences the women continued to talk about other things besides him and he was thankful.
"So, what's your quirk?" a rough voice asked before he could completely delve back into his studies.
"It's a healing quirk-"
"So you're going to support, huh?" Yuki's eye twitched. He didn't know why the way he had said it irritated him.
"I suppose so." was all he replied.
He could still feel the boy named Katsuki's stare as he tried to continue his business and eat his pudding in peace.
"Young man!" Yuki looked over to the voice hoping to have a minute or two away from the boy's burning stare.
"Yes?!" he shouted.
"I've done it this time! I sure have," the old man laughed walking out with a box the size of a medium cake.
"Oji-san... I can't eat all of that!" Yuki shouted, making room for the box on the small table.
"Don't be modest! I made sure to make it your favorite flavor," he told him, opening the box to, not a cake. No, that was too simple and in Oji-san's opinion boring for someone like Yuki.
It was a cake sized pudding...
"Oji-san when I said to do your best, I meant making a small cake!" Yuki groaned face now in his hands with embarrassment.
The family next to him could only observe in amusement.
"How am I supposed to carry this and the food Sato-san gave me. Oji-san you know I can't-"
"I thought about that and guess what!?" the short old man asked excitedly as though he were a child.
"W-what?" At this point he was terrified with what else the old man would do for him. He didn't like taking things from other people without their being a reason. It made him feel in debt and he knew he could easily pay back everything he was getting but he also knew that none of them would accept it.
"You have helped my family in more ways than one," the old man slowly took off his chef's hat.
"You helped heal my granddaughters tumor, you helped keep this place in business, and you have unfortunately found a place in my heart as well as my family's,"
Oh no...
"Oji-san! I thought we were saving that for his birthday!" Sato-san shouted from across the cafe.
"Screw that!"
"Oji-san, whatever it is. I don't need it." Yuki began slowly beginning to put his things away. Planning on fleeing even if that meant leaving the huge pudding cake and the food he was given.
"You don't have to go to these lengths for me. I'd gladly do them for anyon-"
"Which is exactly why I need to do this!" the old man snapped.
"You help others so selflessly. You busy yourself with going to hospitals during your free time for so many years already." The old man was stretching it sure.
The cafe only had a handful of customers who would frequently go and know what this was about. They had helped in attaining the said gift.
"You help others yet you don't let others help you," the old man sighed.
That was only one time though it happened every other three months...
"We've seen you struggle on your own. Please let us do this one thing for you."
Yuki stayed quiet. He really didn't want anything. He hadn't asked for anything. He hadn't even hinted at wanting anything! So, nodding slowly in defeat the old man then grabbed his wrist and pulled him along towards the back entrance of the cafe.
"So, he's always here?" Katsuki's mother, Mitsuki asked. She had found the whole ordeal heartwarming but she didn't know what things led up to this.
Katski too was curious, he just made sure to make it seem as though his dessert was more interesting.
"Oh yes! Yuki-kun is always working hard and often comes here if the hospital he's working at is near. He sometimes stays until closing time studying in the corner." Sato-san explained to Mitsuki as she cleaned up after a customer.
"What about his parents? Does he go to school?"
"Oh, he has a guardian who is mostly overseas." Sato replied recalling her reaction that was similar to Mitsuki's.
"As for school, he let it slip once when he overused his quirk that he was kicked out before the first term ended."
"Kicked out!? But he looks like a sweet kid!" Mitsuki shouted. Even Katsuki couldn't hold back his cough of surprise.
"Yeah... Well, he didn't go into detail but he's basically self teaching himself now and refuses to sign up for any home schooling. He says that it's too restraining for him and would rather study other things." Sato sighed.
Meanwhile, behind the cafe...
"Oji-san," Yuki looked at the gift.
"Now I really can't accept this. No. No w- AH!" Yuki shouted as a sharp slap hit his arm.
"That bike you're always dragging around with you is starting to fall apart!" the old man scolded.
"Well, it was a second hand purchase-"
"See! You need something that can take you places quicker, especially if you're going to be traveling from one side of the city to the other."
Yuki sighed looking at a white motor scooter with a leather colored seat.
"The man who sold it to us said it was 150cc?" the old man looked up to confirm his wording.
Yuki only shrugged. He didn't know anything about scooters or bikes or whatever people liked to call it.
"Well I heard it was becoming a trend owning one of these!" the old man stated smuggly, looking proud he even knew about it.
"I have no idea what you're talking about." Yuki replied softly.
"At least you can dump that old bike of yours, I've seen you fix those chains before you get on it."
"How much was it? I'll pay you back. I can't take this from you." Yuki tried to bargain.
"Nope," the old man smiled. "Think of this as a christmas, new years and birthday present."
Yuki couldn't believe it.
He was getting a present for the holidays.
Sure he had gotten gifts in forms of flowers, cards, and sometimes even a small party thrown for him for his accomplishments at hospitals but nothing like this. Not even his adoptive father sent him any gifts that weren't something he didn't ask for (mostly books).
Unsure of how to react he hadn't realized the hot tears running down his face.
"Oh, son." the old man comforted.
He had such nice people around him. He hadn't thought he would reach a point in his life where he could really start to bring down his walls. But there he was.
Doctors, Nurses, children, patients, the old man, Sato-san, the employees, Suzuki- sensei and even the principal.
He was wrong. I do have people who care.
"Thank you, Oji-san." Yuki smiled.
"I'll make sure to take care of it."
The old man laughed, only giving him a side hug.
Yuki didn't get home until 11:50. His face hurt from the amount of smiling he had done for the night.
Even if he didn't get a good amount of studying done, he most certainly got a wonderful meal to end Christmas eve and greet Christmas.
Over at the Bakugou household
"It sure was nice of them to do something for him." Mitsuki sighed putting away the extra pastries from the cafe.
"Yeah, who knew a young man like him just went around volunteering as much as he did." Masaru piped in, glancing at his son who had somehow been quiet the entire time.
"Yeah, if only you did nice things like that Katsuki." she joked, trying to get a reaction out of him.
Katsuki, however, hadn't heard the conversation and was in deep thought.
He seemingly ignored his parents and went up to his bedroom, calm and collected.
He was wondering why he was feeling so calm. It felt weird. He had just come back from an outing with his parents and usually that only ever stressed him further. So why was this time so different.
Thinking about all the possible things that could have caused this he quickly became frustrated and irritated not knowing what was wrong with him.
"WHAT THE HELL!!" he shouted, pulling on his hair as though it would provide some answers.
"KATSUKI! SHUT UP! YOU'LL DISTURB THE NEIGHBORS!"
He then concluded a shower was needed and some sleep.
Maybe he was getting sick.
As he got ready for bed the image of the boy they met in the cafe popped into his head.
"Healing, huh?" he scoffed. "It's still useful, but depends on how much he can heal."
Katsuki closed his eyes and he tried to remember the face that was already beginning to fade.
If both of them were going to U.A. then he might as well remember him, even if he was a fucking weak looking nerd. He was going to be the one to help the heroes make sure the survivors/victims stayed alive.
Yuki, such a girly name.
Katsuki smirked. He recalled the boy was a bit on the thinner side. He was probably shorter than him. He had also noticed just how much his notebook was packed with notes, arrows, high lighting and even post-its were sticking out from different pages.
His writing was neat but it also held the sense of urgency in it when he'd glanced at it.
His hands looked delicate and cold but that didn't seem to bother him...
WHY THE HELL AM I THINKING ABOUT HIM!
He tossed around for a while before he was finally about to sleep.
