"Yuki-chan! It's time for bed." Tenji shouted from the bathroom. "Come brush your teeth!"
"Going!" Yuki replied from the living room. He was just about finishing doing the worksheets his papa had given him.
It was fall and winter was just around the corner and in the couple of months Tenji had lived with them Takumi felt as though it was about time. They were going to tell Yuki earlier in the day but Takumi kept pushing it back and now it came down to telling the boy right as he was about to go to sleep.
"Let's do this tomorr--"
"No! We agreed we'd do it today. I let it pass during breakfast and even during dinner. We're telling him now."
"What if he can't sleep--"
"You're the one who's gonna keep tossing and turning all night, if he has questions he'll probably ask in the morning."
"Ask what?" Yuki yawned.
Takumi was a coward. He'd finally admit it. It wasn't him who told his son. It was Tenji. Tenji told Yuki as he tried his best to sit still and not run away.
"So Papa likes Shin." Yuki pointed from Takumi to Tenji.
"And Shin likes Papa." He pointed back from Tenji to Takumi.
"Yes, that's right." Tenji smiled, elbowing the coward who wouldn't stop shaking his leg.
"Is it alright with you?" Tenji asked.
Yuki looked between the two. He could practically feel the nervousness radiat off the two, more so his Papa who was much more visible with it.
Finally Yuki gave them a firm nod. "It's okay."
Takumi stopped shaking, facing his son. "R-really?"
"Yeah." Yuki nodded again. "But don't take him away!" he pointed to Tenji.
And with that, the three felt closer to a family.
While it was true Yuki went to the park a couple blocks away. It was also true that he did in fact lie to his Papa about playing with the other kids.
It wasn't that he didn't want to. He really did. It's just... he didn't know how.
He didn't know why they only wanted to play heroes and villains. He didn't know why that was all they'd talk about when there were so many other things. His Papa had made it clear to not tell anyone he was quirkless. So when the other kids did ask him to play and they asked for his quirk he simply made up an excuse and went home.
He was just tired of everything having to do with quirks and how everything revolved around quirks. It irritated him. And when things irritated him he'd simply go to his room, throw a pillow on the floor and take a nap. Takumi never questioned it, having thought it was because he was exhausted but when Tenji picked up on it, it was much more difficult to hide it.
"Yuki-chan, what's wrong?" Tenji asked, peeking into Yuki's room. The curtains were drawn and the lights were turned off.
"Tired." the boy simply replied, his face buried into the pillow.
"What are you tired about?" Tenji tried, walking in and going to lay next to Yuki on the floor.
"Kids."
Tenji laughed softly, patting the boy's back. "Why are you tired of kids? You're one too."
Yuki huffed, turning to face Tenji. "I know. But all they talk about is heroes."
Now this intrigued Tenji. With a sympathetic smile he asked, "What's wrong about heroes?"
"It's annoying."
"Heroes are annoying?"
"No. Talking about them all the time."
"Then what do you want to talk about?"
"Stuff."
"You gotta give me more than that, Yuki.."
Yuki frowned. He knew Tenji was trying but he just didn't know how to express it in a way that sounded....right.
"I read heroes used to be quirkless." Yuki began.
"They would run into burning buildings, work together to get people to safety, and heal people who were sick, all without quirks."
Tenji stayed quiet, listening to the boy's thoughts.
"And now, heroes just punch bad guys and smile on tv." Yuki sighed. "It gets boring when there are so many everywhere, I just don't care about it."
Tenji softly sighed, a hand still on Yuki's back.
"Is it bad heroes are catching villains?" Tenji whispered.
"No. It's just..." Yuki buried his face into the pillow again.
"What is it?" the man asked, getting closer to the boy.
A muffled reply came from the boy.
"What was that?" Tenji asked.
"I can't be a hero because I'm quirkless..." Yuki whimpered.
"Yes you ca--"
"No I can't!" Yuki shouted. Hot tears flooding his grey-eyes.
"I can't be a hero like everyone else can. They can do things I can't. They can be what they want to be and no one will tell them they can't!" Yuki cried.
"Yuki--"
"I see how Papa gets looked at when they ask for I.D.! It's because he's quirkless! Even the smallest of the most useless quirks I've read about get treated better! It's stupid! It's annoying! And DUMB!"
Tenji watched in sorrow as the boy broke into sobs. His cries muffled by the pillow.
"Why couldn't I at least have one?" Yuki sobbed. "I could have helped Papa... Then he wouldn't have to worry about paying more than he needed to at stores! Or even go to a lot of doctors because they wouldn't see me! A quirkless boy!"
Muffled shouts seemed to echo and yet at the same time warp...
Yuki didn't want to open his eyes. It's cold but also warm. Perhaps he'd just been in the cold too long he'd gotten used to it.
A pair of hands grabbed onto his wrists and he was yanked upward.
"ARE YOU STUPID OR WHAT?!"
Before Yuki could reply he felt himself get lifted out of the tub and onto a towel.
"Get more towels, Deku!"
"Right!"
The wall was on the floor. Or was it the floor that was on the wall. Voices distorted as they kept shouting.
"Oi! Are you alright?" Bakugo held onto the healer.
"Where...."
"I only found one!" Midoriya ran in with another towel
Bakugo tried to pull the boy onto his feet, draping an arm over his shoulder.
"Start drying him. Who knows how long this dumbass was in there."
Midoriya did as was told, making sure to hurry so they could get Yuki into warm clothes.
By the time he was done the towel was drenched and Yuki was being dragged out the bathroom.
"Where am I?" Yuki asked.
"Should we get Recovery Girl?" Midoriya asked, handing over clothes for Yuki to Bakugo.
"Yeah, he might have hit his head."
As Midoriya ran to the school building, Bakugo stayed behind. He changed Yuki and wrapped the boy up in blankets.
"How many did you take?" Bakugo asked, almost shaking the trembling boy.
"What--"
"How many did you take?!" Bakugo shouted, this time holding up an empty bottle of pills.
Yuki stared at it. He knew what that was.
"Pills..."
"Yes, how many?" Bakugo continued to ask.
"I-- I don't--" Yuki paused, blinking at the empty container.
"What happened?"
A frustrated growl let Bakugo. Slamming the empty bottle onto the ground.
"That's what I'm trying to figure out!" He placed both hands on the healers shoulders.
"What do you remember?"
Yuki frowned, looking around his room. "I- I went to the bathroom..."
"Okay and then what?"
Yuki brought one of his hands up to his face. "My fever... it was getting worse..."
"So what did you do." Bakugo asked, a deep frown on his features the entire time.
"I think-- I thought I'd take the medicine." Yuki mumbled, slowly replaying his thoughts.
"But the headache... came back..."
"So how many did you take?" Bakugo tried again.
"I didn't," Yuki whispered, the scene of the bottle slipping from his hands, a couple falling out and into the sink.
"You didn't take any?" Bakugo's grip tightening making Yuki look at the blond.
"No."
"Then what the fuck were you trying to do? Drown?! Get Hyperthermia?! How long were you in there?"
"I thought a cold bath would work." Yuki calmly told the not so calm boy.
A misunderstanding had occurred. One that frightened just about everyone.
"Yuki-kun," Recovery Girl softly placed a hand on his. "Your guardian mentioned of past at--"
"No. I wasn't trying to." Yuki shook his head. "I-- They came in when I'd just submerged myself."
The door opened and in came Aizawa, putting his phone away. "Mr. Watanabe suggested having someone keep him company."
"Yes, I agree too." Recovery Girl quickly agreed.
Yuki only sighed. Everything he'd done was taken the wrong way. And with Dr. Young having finally given Recovery Girl access to other parts of his medical files, he wouldn't get out of it.
"Okay, fine." he told the two. "I don't need it. And for the record my fever's gone down a bit."
"I say," Tenji smiled brightly, lifting Yuki into the air. "We are go, on a road trip!"
"A Road Trip?!" both Yuki and Takumi asked. Takumi was a bit more surprised at the sudden change of events.
"I thought we were going hiking again?" Takumi frowned.
"No Hiking?" Yuki gasped, slamming his small hand on Tenji's face.
Tenji laughed, softly munching onto the small hands.
Yuki giggled as he pulled his hands away.
"I think hiking is off the table, Taka-kun."
A scoff came from the older. "What? Why? Can't handle a couple mosquito bites? Yuki handled it like a champ."
"Oh I know he can. I can handle mosquito bites too, but what I can't handle was how much you were complaining about your back and knees during the hike." Tenji sighed.
"I did not--"
"Yes! You did! Yuki, go pack your bags we're leaving as soon as tomorrow."
"Tomorrow!"
"Tomorrow?!"
Sirens.
"Hey there, my name is Mori." An officer kneeled in front of the boy. A shock blanket bundled around his small figure.
"What's your name?"
"Papa?" the boy mumbled.
He didn't miss the sympathetic look that flashed onto the officers face.
"Can I get your name first?" she asked, deflecting the question.
"Yuki. Satori Yuki."
The Officer smiled, "Nice to meet you Yuki, can you tell me what you remember?"
Yuki glanced over to the broken off railing of the cliff. A sorrowful look in his eyes.
"Car..."
"That's right. You were in the car. Do you know how you got out?" she softly asked. Taking out her notepad.
"Uncle Shin."
"Was he the one driving?"
Yuki shook his head. "No. Papa was."
"Do you know your papa's name?"
"Taka-- Tak-- Takumi."
"Okay, Yuki. We're going to take you to the hospital to get you properly checked out."
"But Papa and Uncle Shin." his grey eyes desperately watching people work to get the car back onto the highway road.
"They're working hard right now. But we need to take--"
"No!" the boy shouted, his sight beginning to blur. "I want my Papa! And Uncle Shin!"
"Yuki--"
The boy suddenly flung off the blanket and jumped out of the patrol car.
"PAPA!" he ran towards the edge. Dodging any adults' grasp. "UNCLE SHIN!"
Shouting began around him as he neared the end. "PAPA!"
He cried out over the edge. There the family car was slowly being dragged back up.
"UNCLE SHIN!"
"Yuki!" the officer shouted after him.
"NO!" he screeched. "I WANT MY PAPA!"
They were supposed to go on a road trip across the country...
"PAPA!"
It was just going to be another fun day...
"UNCLE SHIN!"
They were going to stop for ice cream soon....
"PAPA! UNCLE SHIN!"
He was left with no reply...
"WAKE UP!"
It was just an accident.
"please..."
