                    Jaxon POV
The phone call I’d received from Grant had set everything into motion. Hearing my best friend was in danger, from the very man who’d she’d been promised to as a breeder, had me racing back upstairs and grabbing my car keys and a very confused Alex, who tore along with me when I babbled to him what was going on. We had wasted no time in getting in the car. Repeated attempts to contact Blaze and his pack had gone unanswered. It had been nerve-wracking, driving recklessly and even speeding, my heart racing in my chest, knowing something was very wrong. Jordan wasn’t answering her calls, Blaze wasn’t and the phone number in the study continuously rang with no answer. Grant was with his mate, trying to get information from her, but he couldn’t afford to pry too hard and I didn’t blame him. She’d been badly abused, and to push too hard could traumatize the girl even further. He would have gone to Blaze’s pack too but I’d told him his priority was to his mate and hung up before he could respond. I was happy for him though. Now he could finally get over Jordan and her rejection of him, I thought hopefully. At least, providing this girl didn’t reject the poor bastard too. I had a sneaking suspicion though, that this girl had no desire to reject Grant, at least not in the foreseeable future.
We’d made it to Blaze’s pack and been informed of his whereabouts. We’d reached the hospital room, in time to hear everything he’d said to his darling sister. My disgust had grown and I’d stepped into the room, threatening her with the Alpha tone. She didn’t look so confident now, I saw with a sneer as I stepped beside Blaze, Alex right behind me. In fact, the girl looked downright scared. Good. Maybe now she would stop all the dramatics and tell us what she knew without all the bullshit drama.
“I had a phone call from Grant, informing me Jordan was in danger. Said it was from Alpha Romero” I said tightly, watching the b***h’s eyes the entire time. I was waiting for a hint that she knew him.
Bingo. As soon as she heard the name, her pupils constricted slightly. She’d just given herself away without even realizing it. Stupid girl.
“But you already knew that didn’t you” I challenged her as Blaze swivelled his head to stare at her “Because you planned this with him.”
Blaze let out a furious growl. “Who is Alpha Romero” he roared at Stefanie who flinched and cowered back.
“Jordan was promised to him as a breeder by her stepmother, just before she sought sanctuary with me. Nonetheless, he was none too pleased when it was called off apparently” I said icily, stepping closer to the girl, my distaste and contempt for her growing by the minute.
There was something about this blonde b***h that made me despise her on sight. I didn’t know what it was. Call it instinct. Something about her was off. She looked nothing like Blaze but it wasn’t just that. It was her mannerisms. The cold, calculating look on her face. The frosty look in her eyes. She wasn’t some innocent teenager. This was something more. She was like an ice queen. Good god, how had Blaze not seen her for what she was? I guess you are more blind to one’s flaws when you are family.
“Where is she?” I asked quietly, my tone very dangerous.
Even Alex cringed at that tone. I didn’t use it often but even he knew when I did it was best to do as I asked or give the information I sought. Blaze just glowered at his sister.
She scowled. “I don’t know and I wouldn’t tell you if I did” she snapped “I’m glad that b***h is gone. You were too good for her. Not to mention I hate her guts. Fat f*****g slut” she hissed, and I drew in a breath, stunned at the amount of pure venom in her voice.
Blaze reached out to slap her and I grabbed his hand, shaking my head. To hit her would only make her more defiant. It wouldn’t do any good in this instance and would probably only make him even angrier as she continued to refuse to give out the information he sought. My eyes flashed. I let Aries slowly come towards the surface. My wolf was only too pleased to assist. He was angry that Jordan was in danger. He wanted to help. He wanted to save her. He also wanted to kill this b***h in front of us.
My alpha tone came forth. “You will tell us everything and leave nothing out” I instructed, unleashing my aura on her as she flinched and shrank back.
I could see her trying to resist, biting her lip and clenching her fists but she was no blood relative of mine and I was in complete control. She had no choice. I saw her bow her head and submit her neck, a petulant look on her face, hatred glittering in her eyes.
“Fine” she hissed “I was walking in the forest one day when I met this Alpha Romero” she snarled, “said he was looking for a long lost pack member and described your precious mate,” she told Blaze angrily.
She took a deep breath and then gave a bitter laugh. “I’m not stupid. I didn’t fall for his lame-ass story, but I knew he wanted Jordan for some reason and that was enough for me. I didn’t care what he did with her as long as he got rid of the b***h. So I told him that she was here and that she was mates with my brother the Alpha now. He was disappointed but I told him if he kept visiting, I was sure we could come up with a way to lure Jordan out to the forest together. Eventually, he told me the truth” she added with a shrug.
Blaze was fighting to keep control of himself. Alex was silent in the background, an ominous expression on his face. The stranger, whom I presumed by his aura to be Blaze’s Beta, stood there looking down on the girl, Stefanie with rage. I cleared my throat.
“So who came up with the plan?” I growled, “Whose idea was it?”
She looked at me triumphantly. “I did” she whispered “It was so perfect. My dear, darling brother is such a soft touch, I knew he would feel guilty and want to come straight away if I did something to hurt myself. Jordan is such a pushover” she snorted “I knew she would let Blaze and I have some personal time together before she made her way over and tried to extend an olive branch like the kind-hearted soul she was,” she said sarcastically, tossing her hair over her shoulder.
God, she was cold. I struggled to keep myself under control, itching to wrap my hands around her and strangle her to death.
“You b***h” Blaze whispered in disbelief.
“All Romero had to do was come up with a way to entice her into the forest and into neutral territory. I told him it couldn’t be that hard, that she was such a soft soul that a wounded animal or even a lost child would do it. Then all he had to do was wait for her to leave the pack house and make her way towards the hospital and ensure she heard the cries of said animal or child. It was too easy. I can’t believe your mate is that stupid” she said nastily to Blaze who flattened his lips.
It was a simple enough plan. But to go so far as to pretend to commit suicide? That was sick. Twisted. Conniving. I had no respect for this girl at all.
“What was supposed to happen after that” I prompted when she fell silent and looked off into the distance, clearly still trying to fight the alpha tone, with no success. She dug her nails into her flesh and drew blood, grimacing at me.
“Then he was supposed to take her somewhere and make her his new wife and breeding machine,” she said nonchalantly. I suspected she hadn’t told the whole truth. I pushed my aura on her again, watching her struggle against it. It was futile. She was wasting precious energy even attempting it. “Where was he taking her?” I barked.
She exhaled sharply. “An abandoned cabin in the forest to the southeast,” she said bitterly “he had something to take care of first. He was a little angry, you see” she explained, her mouth smiling slightly in amusement “When he found out.”
“Found out what” breathed Blaze, his body stiffening.
I instinctively knew what she was about to say, my own body tensing.
She blinked, trying to appear innocent. “Well, when he found out she was already pregnant. He wants his own heirs, not somebody else’s. Said he needed to take care of that as soon as possible. No wife of his was going to make him raise somebody else’s child” she breathed gleefully.
Whack. Blaze hit her as hard as he could with the open palm of his hand, sending her head flying backward with the sheer force of the hit. He didn’t even try to hold back and to be honest, I didn’t blame him. This time I didn’t even try to stop him.
I was just as angry as he was. She put a hand to her cheek, her eyes swimming with tears, a shocked look on her face. She sniffed, tears swimming in her eyes. I felt no sympathy for her.
”
“You f*****g b***h” Blaze roared, throwing the chair through the window and the little bedside table too, in his sheer rage How could you? How could you put my mate and my baby in danger like that? I swear I’ll kill you for this, sister or no sister, what you’ve done is treason” he hissed, his eyes flashing dark and back to normal over and over again as he and his wolf wrestled for control.
He hit her again and she gave a cry. I grabbed his hand. “Blaze,” I said sharply, barely even acknowledging the girl who was weeping. I did notice however that she was tensing and barked out an Alpha order instinctively “You will stay in your human form until I give you permission to shift” stopping her before she could change into her wolf.
“Right now our main concern is Jordan and finding her. Get your men to take this piece of utter garbage to the dungeon and you can deal with her later” I snarled “Your mate needs you. Focus man, damn it, else I’ll b***h slap you” I hissed.
He looked a bit taken aback. I saw him take deep shuddering breaths, his eyes slowly returning to normal, before clouding over as he mind-linked several of his men. His sister stayed on the bed, shrunken down, unable to shift, weak in her human form. Warriors came piling in, seizing her as she screamed and kicked, dragging her away without a word as we watched, our eyes narrowed. Blaze looked distraught. The poor man was lost. It had to be difficult knowing your own flesh and blood had betrayed you and plotted to have your mate stolen from you. I wouldn’t have liked to have been in his shoes. I sighed. I felt sympathetic towards him.
“Blaze,” I said, slightly sympathetically, but urgently all the same, Alex nodding as well “We need to go and track down your mate. Lead the way. We can find Jordan together, but you know the forests around here better than we do. Forget about your sister for now and focus on finding Jordan and your unborn child. We will help you find her.”
“I will remain here,” The beta man said unexpectedly, shooting Blaze a look “And contact surrounding Alpha’s who can also help in the search, seeming as you have help. Perhaps they will have noticed something unusual happening near their territories.”
I approved of his decision. It was a good suggestion. Hope lit up Blaze’s eyes. He woodenly began to make his way out of the hospital room, out the main doors, and over the grounds, as Alex and I followed silently, communicating with side-long glances.
At the edge of the forest, he shifted, into an impressive large black wolf and we did the same, our concern only for Jordan, and then he took off, the two of us behind him, keeping pace, heading to the southeast in search of this abandoned cabin that Stefanie had spoken about and vehemently hoping that we would make it in time to rescue Jordan before it was too late. Because I wasn’t going to lose my best friend and Blaze couldn’t lose his mate, the pain would be unbearable, for the both of us.
